The phrase “must-have” is far too often overused when measuring the merits of Fantasy prospects.Sometimes it can take just a brief burst of form to get certain bandwagons up and running; a hat-trick here and a double there and managers are scrambling to juggle budgets in order to accommodate the latest flavour of the month.

There have been contenders this season, no doubt. Wayne Rooney flew out the traps, firing 9 goals in his first five gameweeks, while over in the blue half of Manchester, Sergio Aguero was adjusting to life at the Etihad seamlessly following his summer move from Atletico Madrid. The Argentine bagged 8 goals over the same period as City’s new attacking outlook took the top-flight by storm.

Robin Van Persie was sluggish in comparison. Five games in and the Dutchman has found the net just once. In retrospect, those stats read more like an absurd anomaly now, a brief stain in an otherwise immaculate record that shows no sign of letting up.

There was something of an inevitability about today’s trip to Carrow Road. Can we really raise an eyebrow at a brace, with the maximum bonus surely certain to follow? Paul Lambert’s Norwich can take solace in the fact they are simply another in a long line of opponents put to the sword by an extraordinary scoring spree that has seen Van Persie find the net 12 times in the last seven gameweeks as the new-look Arsenal storm up the table.

This article is no more than a homage to you then, RVP. A thankyou from Fantasy managers who seem to have finally found their new Cristiano Ronaldo. Back in 2007/08, the Man United man grabbed 31 goals in 34 games and was, arguably, the last real must-have. Good for the armband most weeks, almost always guaranteed to produce the points.

Since the start of this calendar year, in a run of 28 league games stretching back to a trip to St Andrews on New Year’s day, Van Persie has now scored a total of 31 goals. The likes of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri may be gone but the goals are far from drying up- whether it’s Chelsea away or Bolton at home, Van Persie steamrollers teams regardless. A Fantasy captain for every occasion, a real Robin relentless.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

snap...Ramsey to Larsson is the move I'm considering. Larsson may go down in price as well today or tomorrow. Ramsey is once again the assister of the assister. Larsson is very appealing.

Also long term Wenger has said he wants to rotate more...surely that means the likes of Ramsey are at risk when cup games come up.

another snap...I also took Petrov out for Walters:-)

ok, what to do for next week?

    Westwood

    Jones, BAE, Brown

    Sinclair, Allen, VdV, Silva

    Aguero, RvP (c), Hernandez

    Subs: Vorm, Woodgate, Raylor, Tiote

Think it's time to downgarde Aguero (I still have Silva for City attacking coverage) and upgrade Tiote (to Larsson, Sess, Eagles, Pilko or Brunt). Who pick up front?

my transfers this week were to get in drenthe and wilkinson for a combined total of 2 points.....I was considering jagielka and jones but thought oh no I'll go for the cheapie so I can have money in the bank. Now I am seriously considering swapping Wilkinson straight out for either Turner, Jagielka or Jones....or would Drenthe to Larsson be a better move, or have some faith, hold on to the guys I've only just transferred in and do Given to Westwood....?

      Give it a chance, man.

Next week Drenthe could tear it up and Stoke get a cleanie, while Man Utd and Everton could both concede. Don't go chasing last weeks points as all you end up doing is falling further behind.

If you have Vorm I wouldn't bother wasting a transfer on a keeper. I'm playing Vorm pretty much every week from now on.

      Probably green.

I don't think it'll be as high scoring an average as people think. Only Man Utd and Sun/Ful cleanies.

Only real winners appear to be people with Shawx, Baines, Jagielka and Richards as pretty much most other defenders did jack all. Only Brown of the cheapies delivered today.

Please people are retarded, somehow people who had Baines all this time decided home to Wolves was the time to sub him out (net transfers out 11744 according to Fiso).

The bandwagon will come from the 10 (12/13) points he'll get.

The 'smart' people will go on about his price as a defender and keep ignoring him.

Yep, it's strange. When the prices came out, the swell of opinion was that Baines was a strong purchase, even at 8.0. Admittedly, a lack of points and Everton's form has dented confidence but, having dropped to 7.8 and with very strong fixtures (4 in 6 at home and a confirmed DGW before today), this is surely Baines' opportunity to live up to his billing.

Point is, when a penalty is given, Baines takes it. That's all you need to worry about. You can't predict when penalties are given (rightly or wrongly).

Mark: the best piece of evidence right now would be to look at the Baines' chalkboard and see where he is playing. The Opta stats suggest the penalty was his only goal attempt today. His Influence score was very high though which might suggest a genuine attacking threat. Top scored in Metro too.

The penalty he got shouldnt have been given by any reasonable referee. Besides that, it was just an ok game for him.

He is obviously a gamble, but my take on Baines is that he's a mid-high price 'midfielder' because of his goals/assists/set pieces, and obviously potential clean sheets. And there are NO mid priced midfielders currently performing well (see Ramsey, Sess, Drenthe, Sinclair etc).

Yes to an extent! I'll start by saying I have Walters. Bale's FPL form is totally inconsistent. Eagles is playing in a stuttering Bolton side with competition for his place. Larsson, fair enough, is a decent purchase.

Baines is tried and tested. I Captained him today, and would NEVER Captain any of the players you listed.

              Wow, talk about fickle.

Sinclair doesn't score against Liverpool and United and suddenly he's not performing?

Sessegnon gets two big hauls then United and then this game against Fulham.

There's still plenty value in those two and Sinclair. Drenthe is a wait and see for me. But there's still Larsson and Brunt to consider.

Larsson looks promising but then you'd have three Sunderland players. Walters would be my suggestion.

Got same issue with Rooney, Jafalad.

Can't keep a £12m striker if all he's picking up is 2 points and occasional bonus. However, who else is there as I already have RVP?

same problem here. Adebayor isn't doing much, Aguero might be injured and gets rotated, no-one else is reliable.

Well remember Baines plays pretty much as a midfielder but you you have the bonus of the 4pts of a cs and he's a genuine attacking threat from these better fixtures. Plus the set plays too.
I just don't see a better "midfielder" at the moment apart from what's already in my team.

Nomar :I'm likely to hold onto Rooney for now - lets see how he goes.

Exactly - I would go for your planned sub. 6-7m mids are starting to prove their value.

Defenders who score goals are the ones to have (Shawcross proving that by scoring 6 points despite conceding 3) - only 3 teams kept a CS so you need to spend on your defence to get in

Then you probably 'need' RvP and VdV and I'm still saying that about Silva.

See, for me, the fact that clean sheets are scarce are MORE of a reason NOT to spend money on defenders, and more on the players who can actually be counted on to score.

Which, admittedly, is a short list right now.

The problem with goalscoring defenders, Llamaza, is you can't predict when they are going to score, so they become a bit of a hit and miss.

However with Baines, there is a consistency of goal threat because of where he really plays and set play duties.

True, but some defenders are more likely to get involved in attacking points than others. Baines, Richards, RTaylor are some.

Also the big four defenders are still more likely to get a CS, so you have to spend to get that access.

More likely to get a cs? Not sure about that this year: City have 4 cs and a range of teams can equal or better that.

RT has had several attempts but is yet to score. I think Baines is different though based on his field position and sp responsibilities.

RvP at anything under 13.0 is cheap with the form he's in. I'd pay 14.0 for him if I had to.

33pts with VDV & Walker left - no Che/Liv coverage...

Had Shawcross, Brown and Chicarito all in my WC at one point - opted for Kompany, Rooney and Wilkinson instead - 14pt difference. 🙁

Oh well, onto next week, probably out of PP Cup as well, expect average to be 37-ish today with cut off around 55 by end of week imo.
