The phrase “must-have” is far too often overused when measuring the merits of Fantasy prospects.Sometimes it can take just a brief burst of form to get certain bandwagons up and running; a hat-trick here and a double there and managers are scrambling to juggle budgets in order to accommodate the latest flavour of the month.

There have been contenders this season, no doubt. Wayne Rooney flew out the traps, firing 9 goals in his first five gameweeks, while over in the blue half of Manchester, Sergio Aguero was adjusting to life at the Etihad seamlessly following his summer move from Atletico Madrid. The Argentine bagged 8 goals over the same period as City’s new attacking outlook took the top-flight by storm.

Robin Van Persie was sluggish in comparison. Five games in and the Dutchman has found the net just once. In retrospect, those stats read more like an absurd anomaly now, a brief stain in an otherwise immaculate record that shows no sign of letting up.

There was something of an inevitability about today’s trip to Carrow Road. Can we really raise an eyebrow at a brace, with the maximum bonus surely certain to follow? Paul Lambert’s Norwich can take solace in the fact they are simply another in a long line of opponents put to the sword by an extraordinary scoring spree that has seen Van Persie find the net 12 times in the last seven gameweeks as the new-look Arsenal storm up the table.

This article is no more than a homage to you then, RVP. A thankyou from Fantasy managers who seem to have finally found their new Cristiano Ronaldo. Back in 2007/08, the Man United man grabbed 31 goals in 34 games and was, arguably, the last real must-have. Good for the armband most weeks, almost always guaranteed to produce the points.

Since the start of this calendar year, in a run of 28 league games stretching back to a trip to St Andrews on New Year’s day, Van Persie has now scored a total of 31 goals. The likes of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri may be gone but the goals are far from drying up- whether it’s Chelsea away or Bolton at home, Van Persie steamrollers teams regardless. A Fantasy captain for every occasion, a real Robin relentless.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Pretty meh. Didn't do a whole lot. Considering he doesn't have set plays and isn't nailed on I'd consider moving on, espcially if Fat Frank is an option/you don't own Silva and VDV.

Bit prima donna, but nearly scored a lovely goal at the death. Can make something out of nothing but at his price he probably needs to do that more often. Home to NewC next week, Raylor was shocking today, so perhaps SAF/Nani will target him. Then again, something really quite different to this may happen also.

After sticking with him for ages thinking he had to come good, I have to say I gotta drop him now, especially with Newcastle coming up who aren't defending all that badly (I think today was an uncharacteristic horror show from Raylor under incredible possession pressure from City, happens to everyone at some point).

But to whom? Mata? Bale? Lampard? ... Walters?? Please no.

I am planning to do Given to Ruddy tonight before Given drops and Ruddy rises so that I can have 3.9M in the bank to upgrade players. I will play Vorm every week. Good or stupid idea. The guy currently top of the fantasy league is doing something similar, although his 2nd choice keeper at 4M (Bogdan) doesn't even play...

Yes, why have an expensive GK when you're going to play Vorm every week, that's my philosophy, every time I benched Vorm and played Given he outscored him so I decided to have more money in the bank, play Vorm every week and thus score more points by not having Vorm scoring big on my bench!

I think that people aren't buying him to play him, they're buying him to get money to upgrade players, I am never going to play him but he gives me 1M extra so now I can do Wilkinson to Baines or get in Bale or Lampard etc, getting him is just a means of having more finances, if I got a better GK I'd have less money and just end up benching Vorm based on fixtures and most of the time he'll be scoring as much as or more than the GK I've chosen with the supposed better fixture

For any curious bodies out there, my team is linked...

Anyway, I feel a little disappointed today. 40 points and only VDV and Jose Enrique still to play. RVP is literally my team at the moment. However, I do have 4.5 Million in the bank and my wildcard is still active so it's not all doom and gloom.

I don't plan on getting rid of my wildcard just yet though. I shall most certainly be removing Victor Moses from my squad this week, so who's the best replacement for him to add a well needed points boost to my midfield over the next few weeks?

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated 🙂

I'm getting rid of him for Walters or Larsson, probably Larsson.

haha I know exactly what you mean! I'll take any sort of point hit to get him out of my team at the this stage though!

I have Bendtner, so do you reckon that Larsson would be overkill? For the record, I would probably give Larsson the edge if I didn't have any other sunderland or stoke player tbh.

Yeah probably too much Sunderland i'd say. They can be fairly toothless at times.

I'm considering Suarez & Moses -> Walters & Bendnter or Larsson & Sturridge.

Or Lescott & Moses -> S Kelly & Larsson to free up some cash.

Only immediate players that scream out at me are Tiote and Woodgate mate. You can field a good team for next week, by selling one of these players, don't think you need to take a hit.

Only problem is you have no money in the bank so will be hard pushed to find a decent replacement for Tiote/Woodgate that's worth a transfer.

Maybe Woodgate > McAuley. I think you should leave the other 7 of your 8 attackers as they are for now.

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but did Tony Pulis indicate whether Sørensen would now get an extended run in the Stoke team, or if this was just a one-off today due to Asmir Begović's recent international commitments?

I'd like to replace Given before his price drops, and Sørensen would be mighty tempting if I could be sure that he'd be playing for a while.

No just a guess, but Hernandez only goal scorer and on the winning team should get the 3. And with no other goal scorers the defenders with the clean sheet should be in with a chance for bonus.

Like you do. I call BS. Hernandez 3 Vidic 2 is not too bad. Goalscorers are totally loved by PPI. CS and being on the winning team too. Dunno about the 1.

He'd probably deserve it based on his performance but who knows exactly how the index will allocate this point. I guess he's classified as a def so he'll get more credit for the CS. I was thinking Vorm might have a chance but I guess he didn't keep a CS or make enough saves.

I have RVP, Ada. Feel I need a City striker. Would transfer out Adebayor, but should I go for Dzeko or Aguero? And should I wait until after next GW? I'd need to reduce Nani (to tears) to bring in Aguero. Cheers

I'd go dzeko, thinking of bringing him in next gameweek, he'll be put out against liverpool i reckon, tall beasty, strong, what ya need to be against liverpool defence sometimes, however i may just go adebayor, but if any city striker i'd go dzeko.

low average. That'll happen I guess when the highest scoring midfielder of the GW is Walters (7).

Nice to see the high score going to someone who actually seems to pay attention and have a strategy. Cheers to Ben Murphy tonight.

Anytime there's a dearth of clean sheets the average score tends to be low.
