The phrase “must-have” is far too often overused when measuring the merits of Fantasy prospects.Sometimes it can take just a brief burst of form to get certain bandwagons up and running; a hat-trick here and a double there and managers are scrambling to juggle budgets in order to accommodate the latest flavour of the month.

There have been contenders this season, no doubt. Wayne Rooney flew out the traps, firing 9 goals in his first five gameweeks, while over in the blue half of Manchester, Sergio Aguero was adjusting to life at the Etihad seamlessly following his summer move from Atletico Madrid. The Argentine bagged 8 goals over the same period as City’s new attacking outlook took the top-flight by storm.

Robin Van Persie was sluggish in comparison. Five games in and the Dutchman has found the net just once. In retrospect, those stats read more like an absurd anomaly now, a brief stain in an otherwise immaculate record that shows no sign of letting up.

There was something of an inevitability about today’s trip to Carrow Road. Can we really raise an eyebrow at a brace, with the maximum bonus surely certain to follow? Paul Lambert’s Norwich can take solace in the fact they are simply another in a long line of opponents put to the sword by an extraordinary scoring spree that has seen Van Persie find the net 12 times in the last seven gameweeks as the new-look Arsenal storm up the table.

This article is no more than a homage to you then, RVP. A thankyou from Fantasy managers who seem to have finally found their new Cristiano Ronaldo. Back in 2007/08, the Man United man grabbed 31 goals in 34 games and was, arguably, the last real must-have. Good for the armband most weeks, almost always guaranteed to produce the points.

Since the start of this calendar year, in a run of 28 league games stretching back to a trip to St Andrews on New Year’s day, Van Persie has now scored a total of 31 goals. The likes of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri may be gone but the goals are far from drying up- whether it’s Chelsea away or Bolton at home, Van Persie steamrollers teams regardless. A Fantasy captain for every occasion, a real Robin relentless.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Slight green arrow for me. However, I had one mid GW last weekend to and it turned to red by the end (dropped back 20K when all was said and done from the mid GW ranking!)

Do it! Rooney seems like a big waste of 12m and plus he hasn't even looked like scoring for the past 5 GWs.

My first hit-free week in a while and my first big green arrow in a while? Coincidence? I think not.. yet I'm sure I will take a hit to bring Lampard (c) in this week. Temptation.

walters or larsson in contention for one of the spots imo with the latter perhaps having the better games. Walters and Sinclair currently 12.6 combined.

So, average score 27 - pretty damn low.

CHE-LIV, TOT-AVL still to play. High-ownership players for them:

    Given
    Enrique Bosingwa
    Bale VDV (less than Bale!)
    Agbonlahor

Could ultimately remain quite a low-scoring week, maybe around 35 reckon!

how do people feel about the new bonus rule this year? personally i think its a pity that the likes of a good midfielder who might boss the game and maybe dictate the outcome, wont be in line for bonus. its basically just extras for scorers.

love it. scorers should get extra. The game needs to be more predictable, not more random. Thats what this bonus system fixes.

totally disagree with that. the game does not need to be more predictable, all that does is make more teams have exactly the same players. makes it less exciting i think

The new bonus system comes under the banner 'Be Careful what you Wish for'.

Last season every weekend certain people on here would moan all the time whenever one of their players never got baps and they'd fire off an email to FPL to whine about it.

Well, FPL listened and did what the moaners asked them to do, which was change the system.

Now, the moaners probably by and large wish they had the old system of bonus points back again.

He played 67 passes v Bolton, 100% completion. Today vs Man U he made approx 60, and only gave away possession once.

Now, surely this sort of stat would mean he's rewarded by FPL, perhaps the bonus point system. How many bonus points has he picked up this season? 0.

Now that's narrow, sideways passes (and I think we can fairly confidently call them sideways unless you can point out a great goalscoring opportunity they created) should not guarantee BP rewards. Not unless your objective in playing football is never to lose the ball and nothing else. Rewarding him on this basis is equivalent to saying he should get more than a sub who came on, played 5 passes all game, 4 unsuccessful and 1 the matchwinning assist. Who would probably get 0 under your method.

I'm referring to the Utd game of course, the lack of chances created there, didn't watch Bolton. Possession is important but ultimately you must measure based on end product related to the only asset in football - goals.

Xavi wouldn't get a bonus point if there was an FPL in Spain.

I just find it ridiculous that you get dodgy assists (eg a ball flicking off Adebayor's shin, Demba Ba losing a header but it brushing against him etc) which then lead to bonus points.

haha true, i could say that about him for every easy 'next fixture' he would have though, he could have wigan and still not do anything, so this week is do or die for him really, if he doesn't get at least a goal or two assists tomorrow, im getting rid, and even then i might get rid.

its so hard though coz i respect him hugely as a player, and im a united fan! just something about his play that in sense should be great, in other words, he either excels from this point on or he's off, thinking about shipping ramsey too, had enough of his 2-3 point hauls.

You needed to get rid about 5 GW's ago, to be honest, but, hey, better late than never.

Get Ali Faurlin instead. QPR have started scoring for fun now and he got an assist today. Only £5m and some nice fixtures coming up.

QPR got 6 pts from a 4 game stretch where most people thought they'd have been lucky to have picked up a single point from, so their future returns look a lot more promising now. No Barton next week too so he may get more sets against Norwich, especially if no Taarabt.

Heidar has surprised most of us Hoops fans actually, Greendreams.

MOst of us thought his best days were behind him, but he seems to be enjoying a renaissance of sorts at the moment. He's almost as good as Carroll in the air which, considering he's shorter than Carroll, is no mean feat.

Our knock on him has always been that his finishing wasn't as clinical as it should have been and that's what made us wonder if he could produce at this level at his age.

But he has done it before in the Prem with Watford and, clearly, the threat of being rotated in January when NW brings in a new striker amongst other things has certainly helped get the best out of him.

Right now, I'd say that Faurlin, Helgs and SWP may start to come back on our radars again.

That said they only have only left to play, many with several left to play will outperform them

Remember the standard RMTs in pre-season?

How often did we see Hughes, Brown and Simpson feature in the same team? Absolute loads. I have the latter two and I may be revisiting Aaron. Anyone with me?

With Grygera doing his knee in Kelly @ £3.9m looks like the real bargain.

GREEN ARROW up to 50k and 42pts with VDV and Enrique yett to play 🙂

But F**K all from Rooney,Silva,Drenthe and Nani, but i'm pretty happy with my decision to start Tierney over N.Taylor after his assist.

Almost exactly the same, 43pts with VDV and Enrique yet to play... very unhappy with my mid though.

Allright, logical thinkers, my knee is jerking for leighton baines. To the point where I may pass of ridding my team of moses to get him.

Remind me how stupid this is.........please?

      For Moses... not stupid.

Inevitably, at the cost of other players too... perhaps.

Ok, put it like this. I was going to get Baines until 11am this morning along with Walker. However I used LESS money to get Richards and Jones. So far so good. Basically 2 defenders you can play every week instead of 1 and a rotator

Well despite a great score of 64, I cant help feeling annoyed that the last 10 minutes of the 3pms lost me lots of points...

Stoke(Walters) and West Brom (Vrunt) both denied clear pens apparently, and Richards losing his CS and possible baps??

Still 1400th for the week, but only VDV to come
