[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

If he’s fit, he would play. That was the thinking of Rafael Van der Vaart’s Fantasy owners after yesterday’s announcement of his availability for this afternoon’s game.
The Dutchman had trained on Thursday and overcame the hamstring strain that had kept him out of last weekend’s win at West Brom. With a home game against Bolton, Fantasy managers were licking their lips in anticipation of another big points haul as the Trotters rolled up to the Lane this afternoon.

With Jermain Defoe having played the full game against PAOK in Tottenham’s midweek Europa League defeat, it seemed likely Van der Vaart would return to the first-team; even if it was for just sixty minutes or so. As a result, plenty decided to hold on, rather than mover him on for the likes of Gareth Bale.

Today’s lineup was a bitter disappointment. Defoe held his place alongside Emmanuel Adebayor up front, with the Dutchman restricted to a thirteen minute cameo that produced nothing more than a single FPL point. Bale, on the other hand, hit the heights yet again, with a goal, assist and clean sheet in the 3-0 win- a fifth double-figure haul of the campaign see him currently sitting on 11 point, with bonus bound to come, too. Right now, he sits on 80 points, only 5 behind David Silva in the midfield rankings and, priced at 8.7, still seems a bargain, given his flourishing form.

While it’s clear Defoe offers a viable alternative to Van der Vaart in Redknapp’s mind, Bale clearly has the left wing role nailed down without any competition. A jump of 0.8 in price since gameweek 11 is indicative of his rising popularity and after today’s game, more and more may make the decision to offload Van der Vaart, with the Welshman proving a cheaper and equally efficient option in the vibrant Spurs midfield.

any team could score that many if they don't bother defending

    My team:

    Vorm Foster
Enrique Kompany Brown Simpson Assou Ekotto
    VDV Silva Sess Walters Brunt
    RVP Suarez Ba

    0.9 in bank.

There are no obvious transfers for next GW, anyone have any suggestions (VDV>Bale?), or should i just save transfers and do sess>o'hara, and Brown>Jagielka for GW16?

Any suggestions welcome! Thanks a lot!

Few questions, have been out all day at the City game.

Did VDV go off injured or did he come on as a sub near the end?
How bad did Hernandez's injury look.

How is 49 with 3 to play and whatever Jones gets.

Any ideas for defence strategy/policy? I've gone uber cheap, but I think an upgrade or two is required. I have nailed it down to perhaps two of the following:

Verm - injury prone but Arsenal are actually quite good at the back statistically
Richards - not that tempted as Zabaleta may come in over Xmas and City have poor form and fixtures defensively
Baines - always an awesome prospect
Evra - nailed on for a bit extra over Jones

    Missed anyone?

I'm having a defensive re-think too. Not too sure who to opt for out of Jones and Verm. Steering towards Verm because he's more nailed on, and seems to be more of a goal threat.

Evra doesn't offer too much going forward at the moment, considering United's goalscoring form.
Baines is a bit too hit or miss for my liking too.

Santos is a good shout, but I'd favour Verm.

I may just bite the bullet and go for Jones too.

Inflation is making things tricky. Bale and Silva the only exciting prospects in MF.

Need some advice on changing it up a little

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    Simpson - Enrique - Walker - (Wilkinson) - (Orr)
    VdV - Silva - Walters - Moses - (Allen)
    Suarez - RvP - Aguero

0.7mil in bank and 2 free transfers

    Thinking:
VdV and Orr --> Bale and Jones
This would leave me 0.4mil short so I'd have to take a 4 point hit and down trade someone else.

Would consider shifting Suarez out.... although his good looking fixtures would concern me!
