The Pre-Match Preamble - Gameweek 38 Preamble

You can forget the season of goodwill. This, like every Christmas programme, promises to be a punishing affair on the anxiety levels of the passionate Fantasy manager as much as the sinews of the Premier League footballer. We should prepare ourselves for twists and turns; some freakish points hauls, a slew of cruel injuries and unforeseen rotation.

Some will get lucky – probably the guy you’re chasing in the mini-league. At that point, we need to cut the bleating – we’ll have to roll with it and come out the other side having resisted the temptation to chase points, or “knee jerk” proven quality out of our squads. Fight the urges, there are fixtures to come in the New Year.

The nightmares could even come before Christmas. Sir Alex may just go for the experience of Ryan Giggs and the industry of Ji-Sung Park to counter the usual verve shown by Fulham in Wednesday’s Craven Cottage meeting. Roberto Mancini has declared he will make changes for the visit of Stoke – we can only speculate what he has planned to counter the Potters style, or indeed, who he will sacrifice in order to cope with their physicality.

Will Gareth Bale shake off his ankle to face Chelsea? Will players like Ledley King, Rafael Van der Vaart and Demba Ba – individuals cursed by recurrent injury problems – be able to cope with the fixture pile-up?

Then there’s the added confusion of the effects of the impending Tube strikes on the London fixtures – will our gameweek suffer? We should asses the players at risk – and consider saving transfers until we know more so we can counter the issue. With possible Boxing Day absentees, now is not the time to indulge in a “vanity transfer”.

We shouldn’t bottle our wrath for after these events. Ideally, we need to prepare for frustration and have a bench in place to absorb it. If you sitting on Ritchie De Laet or Shane Ferguson, it could be time to prioritise their exit. Now, more than ever, we need a bench lined with active players – willing to contribute and at least offer the prospect of a few points.

So, yeah, enjoy the Bond Film, The Two Ronnies and the awkward gift swapping. Just don’t bank on too many pressies from a Fantasy Football perspective – we’re all set to enjoy “restless” rather than “silent” nights.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Did anyone else notice that the high scorer after day 1 of GW17, with 44 points, made 15 transfers this week and took a -52 point hit?!! I think they wanted to be the high scorer today, and it was mission accomplished!

Quick question, How many injuries in Newcastle midfield would it require for Ferguson to start...??
Wondering on should I spend the 0.3 in bank on Surman to be the fifth midfielder..others read as

    Skrtel Vermaelen Walker Simpson Monk
    Nani Silva Larsson Brunt
    Ade Ba RVP

Why chuck Baines with double week looming?
Also with 5 first team midfielders you are resting two of smalling, morrison, rangel, sinclair every week.

smalling --> evans +0.8 will help you upgrade to Larsson from Sinclair without losing baines.

Also you will need to clear out Ba for the ACN..soon

Which 3 players should I get rid off for the SDT transfer window?
    S Given/ J Collins / S Taylor / S Nasri / L Suarez

    Im thinking:

    option1:
S Taylor, J Colins and Suarez?

    option2
S Taylor, Nasri and Suarez?

I think Given will be back soon!

    Vorm (Given)

    Jones Ward Enrique Vermaelen Brown

    Walters Valencia Bale Mata Silva

    Adebayor Ba Best

1FT Thinking of Ba > Morrison to free funds for

    For intrest sake ...

    Player Prices

Player prices change during the season dependent on the popularity of the player in the transfer market. Player prices do not change until the season starts.

The price shown on your transfers page is a player's selling price. This selling price may be less than the player's current purchase price as a sell-on fee of 50% (rounded up to the nearest £0.1m) will be applied on any profits made on that player.

For example, if you buy a player for £8.3m and when you transfer him his price is £9.0m, his selling price will be £8.6m.

I should seriouly start posting what Im thinking so people can just do the opposite and score massive points. I have been captaining Suarez as of late waiting for big payday, and truly believed it would happen vs Wigan. But hearing coming up, I thought he would get at least 2 match ban starting immediately. Took him out for one gamweek move to bring in Dzeko and captain - after all, balotelli and aguero playing every game, dzeko rested, and how to stoke w/out shawcross. Seemed a good tradeoff for one week. Result - dzeko not on bench and Suarez starts - this will be the game where the goals come for him - just watch.

What's the best combination for the next 2 gameweeks:

    (1) Sturridge, Baines, and Mata

    (2) Rooney, Ethrington, and Drenthe

I'm leaning towards #2, but not sure if Baines will start to deliver. Thoughts?

I wouldn't have ANY of Everton's players on my team, especially not Baines with his ludicrously high price tag. If I had to choose between two Everton players, I'd choose Drenthe easily for price-value so far this season.

And yet, option 1 seems a more satisfying choice.

Could Sturridge, Rooney, Mata be a choice? Or Drenthe, Rooney, Jones / Vermaelen ( a machine, with a string of very easy fixtures coming up)? Or, a variation of option one: Sturridge, Jones / Vermaelen / Mata. Frees your money with .08-10 million, too.

Well, the last two gameweeks have gone so-so with a week bench and many injuries of key players (R.Taylor, Bale). For gameweek 18 and 19, however, I'm more optimistic with my team. How does it look?

    Vorm

    Vermaelen - Jones - Evans - Enrique

    Nani - Silva - Bale

    Adebayor - RvP - Ba

    Subs: Caulker, Ferguson, Gower, Ruddy

you think Bale will be back this week?

I'm thinking about buying him for the DGW.

Selling Walcott to get him. . .

Anyone know why Richards (MCI) went off after 58 minutes?

Injured? or just being 'saved' because of the christmas fixture congestion?
