You can forget the season of goodwill. This, like every Christmas programme, promises to be a punishing affair on the anxiety levels of the passionate Fantasy manager as much as the sinews of the Premier League footballer. We should prepare ourselves for twists and turns; some freakish points hauls, a slew of cruel injuries and unforeseen rotation.

Some will get lucky – probably the guy you’re chasing in the mini-league. At that point, we need to cut the bleating – we’ll have to roll with it and come out the other side having resisted the temptation to chase points, or “knee jerk” proven quality out of our squads. Fight the urges, there are fixtures to come in the New Year.

The nightmares could even come before Christmas. Sir Alex may just go for the experience of Ryan Giggs and the industry of Ji-Sung Park to counter the usual verve shown by Fulham in Wednesday’s Craven Cottage meeting. Roberto Mancini has declared he will make changes for the visit of Stoke – we can only speculate what he has planned to counter the Potters style, or indeed, who he will sacrifice in order to cope with their physicality.

Will Gareth Bale shake off his ankle to face Chelsea? Will players like Ledley King, Rafael Van der Vaart and Demba Ba – individuals cursed by recurrent injury problems – be able to cope with the fixture pile-up?

Then there’s the added confusion of the effects of the impending Tube strikes on the London fixtures – will our gameweek suffer? We should asses the players at risk – and consider saving transfers until we know more so we can counter the issue. With possible Boxing Day absentees, now is not the time to indulge in a “vanity transfer”.

We shouldn’t bottle our wrath for after these events. Ideally, we need to prepare for frustration and have a bench in place to absorb it. If you sitting on Ritchie De Laet or Shane Ferguson, it could be time to prioritise their exit. Now, more than ever, we need a bench lined with active players – willing to contribute and at least offer the prospect of a few points.

So, yeah, enjoy the Bond Film, The Two Ronnies and the awkward gift swapping. Just don’t bank on too many pressies from a Fantasy Football perspective – we’re all set to enjoy “restless” rather than “silent” nights.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

United attacking points get spread around 4 or 5 players (and he may go deep again now chico is back), nearly everything Arsenal do goes to or through RVP.

Yes, in my opinion. The question is whether or not it is crazy to swap Aguero for Rooney if it means swapping Ramsey for a 5.4 or less midfield player (and have no attacking Man City coverage).

i am going without man city attacking coverage.

To tough to predict the line up and for me its a one week move. I have other issues over bale and dyer to sort out first.

plus, for the reason mentioned, i would not cap a man city player this week anyway.

Play Howard, Evans and Simpson. Would probably choose Mcauley of the others in defense but would like you to get another more expensive defender. The rest of the team is okay. Bench Dyer, captain RVP. I would probably try to get a better defender in the next couple of weeks. Downgrade Mata if you need money

I guess, though, the question is what is the bigger risk? Missing out on the double points on RVP (who many will captain) if he has a big game and Aguero lays an egg or hoping the Aguero will outscore RVP by enough to make the risk really worth it?

Hmm...I think that I just answered my own question. RVP...even if I'm trailing in my mini-league, as I can't really lose any more ground and if he does well he'll still be a good differential.

Yesterday there was a raft of defenders priced at 3.7. i was all set to do

    Brown - 3.7 defender
    Dyer - Drenthe

Today they seem to have all gone up to 3.9 meaning I am 0.1M away from doing it.

Injury back up strategy? Downgrade RVP in case he gets injured? Sorry, but that's stupid

no. wrong way around. IF he get's injured, do this. This is close to my ideal team really i just can't afford not to have RVP.

Worry about that if he gets injured. He has been fit and banging goals for a year and even thinking of dropping him is wrong atm. But it looks decent if he somehow gets a bad injury

After I do Dyer to Drenthe this will be squad, only Sor in brackets as all others will have to fight to play for their place in the starting line up 😉

    Vorm (Sorensen)

    Evans Jones Enrique Raylor BAE

    Bale Nani Silva Drenthe Brunt

    Sturridge RVP Adebayor

I meant to add, I deliberately tried to have a good 14 man squad going into xmas period to hedge against rests/injuries. Anyone else doing this?

Drenthe for me, would be Moses if I didn't have the funds.

I'm considering Gomez too, i'm not sure yet though about him or Moses..
But if Pilks isn't starting tonight i'll ship him out for Gomez or Moses, if he is then i'll leave him be..

Also note that Moses is going to rise tonight, so make a decision before then.

hennessey. as much as i love vorm i cant see norwich doin much damage, whereas everton could pinch somethin.

I'm in the exact same position... I think that I'm going with Hennessey largely out of nothing more than hope that Drenthe goes absolutely crazy (at which point playing Vorm wouldn't really be worth it).
