Driving home for Christmas, we present you with the festive ScoutCast. Obviously only for those without passengers – we wouldn’t want to inflict this on unsuspecting souls.

A stocking brimming with the usual merriment, the episode comes with the annual added bonus of hearing myself and Mark exchanging “ironic” gifts as an act of “goodwill” one more.

Along the way we deliberate the Robin Van Persie helpline, the revolving doors being worked by Gareth Bale and Rafael Van der Vaart and the perils of double gameweek investment.

Merry Christmas from the ScoutCast!

think of it this way... i reckon the chances of United not getting a CS and Jones not playing are in the same hemisphere... you dont lower the risk that much, while your reward might still be the same (let me guess: brown coming off the bench?)

              thatll be 10 dollars

Yeah having seen them against Chelsea and Pool I fancy Wigan to trouble the depleted United defence. Hence me stopping my Evans + Jones doubling up and shifting Valencia in alongside Nani. Heck, I'll still get a little 1pt reward for mids getting CS.

Everton CS are unreliable - I agree 5.4 is a bit much for patchy CS and little apparent goal threat.

Just did my transfers just before price changes went against me :
    Eagles > Valencia
    Jones > BAE (yes I know he's not injured 😉 )

Setting me up for GW18 with a probable lineup of

    Sorenson
    Enrique Evans BAE
    Silva Bale Nani Valencia
    RVP(C) Sturridge Adebayor

    Subs: Vorm, Drenthe Naylor Raylor

Some difficult choices, esp defence. Thoughts?

Good stat on Stoke home CS problems but I understand the all important Shawcross is playing and AVL have one of the worst form attacks in the league.

My 4 players for the DGW:

    Bale, Adebayor, Drenthe and Walker.

5th was going to be VDV but i can't trust him to start both games in the double with his injury, so he's not worth wedging in.

Think those 4 should be enough though. Looking forward to Spurs at home to Wolves the GW after it too

I like the more volatile price rises this year - because it rewards the active player more than the casual

Folk that have been playing the markets smartly can get much more money to play with for building super strong squads whereas in previous seasons even lucky no-transferers could have similar strength

Still though, I dont think I've ever finished a season with a higher value team than what I ahve already after 17 weeks (£108.7)

Cheers for the replies. Morison Drenthe is gonna be a late gut call I'll undoubtedly get wrong I expect.

Nice to know that my team looks good, hopefully I can make some headway on my leader this week but I suspect he's got Nani and Bale or a united defender in which will make things a lot harder to catch him.

So many different answers!! It was Drenthe Morison Brown and Shawx I was tossing it up between, so it's essentially two out of those 4. Everyone has given different answers!

look at it this way - norwich have scored in every game but 2 (v utd & west brom). and morison has had either a goal or an assist in 7 of the last 8 GWs.

Hmmm true, think I will play Morison but a lot a of decent options in my team this week.

My back 6 all have home fixtures vs QPR, Wigan, Wolves, Villa and Everton, it doesn't get much better than that and I'm tempted to play 5 at the back.

ShawX and Drenthe narrowly. STO always defend better with ShawX and play an appallingly bad team, who are awful defending set pieces so ShawX could even score there. Drenthe is on form, has done something with his minutes every point up to now. Check if he's likely to start, else Morison.

    Vorm
    Baines Shotton Shawx Evans
    Nani Silva Drenthe Bale
    RVP Ba

    Bench: Yak, Simpson, Moses

how does that look? I'm debating between taking -8 and doing Yak + Baines > Sturridge + Verm!! That or even Yak + Baines > Suarez + BAE (I read Givet/Robinson are out, suarez could finally bag some)

I'm assuming everyone will prob say stick and don't make moves but maybe somebody is as drunk as me and thinks it's brilliant...anyone???

Nah the issue is to have Roon or not and having/not having him has predictable effects on which opinion you take. I don't have him, I'll freely admit that makes me want to downplay his chances, but I know ultimately I just need to be rational and maximize my position - if he does badly, I keep doing what I'm doing, if he succeeds, I learn and use this knowledge to improve strategy.

Fair enough. There are different positions on the issue. Personally I wouldn't sell RVP for Rooney, that is madness imo. However VDV/Mata for Rooney, thats the interesting point for me

    Vorm (al-Habsi)
    Simpson Brown BAE Jones Evans
    Drenthe Bale Nani Silva Walters
    Ba RVP Ade

Also, will Sturridge rise again before the deadline? Already did my FT, and have 0.0 in the bank, but want to bring him in for Ba next gw. So need him to either not go up, or if he does, Ba to go up .2.

Spurs fixtures are reasonable enough before dgw to play Ekotto. Much as you probably want to keep him I would consider selling Jones. It would enable the move to Sturridge and also would provide funds for upgrade in midfield next week. If not Jones, then Jagielka.

With a second FT available, should I just make the transfer now (to avoid having to monitor the BAE price situation) and be done with it?

Original plan was Ba > Sturridge but decided not to. Probably save it as I see a chance for Jones and Naylor to play and no idea to replace Dyer yet.

Probably not, but not sure with the replacement yet. I bought him at 6.3, so not much in value to lose..

Very solid team. All look likely for CS/goals. Good mun coverage. Slightly doubtful whether Ba can keep up great performance against an improved Bolton side but should score. 9.5/10

Well alright they only beat Blackburn 😀 but watched highlights and they played dominant football till HT, leading 2-0 in comfort. Going on momentum too, looked really up for it and relieved to win. Can't imagine their defence improving in one week so yes I do expect 1 Ba goal - just no embarrassing rollover

Aha.. Thank you, Isacki. I missed the midweek game, so no idea how they were.. I hope you would be right about Ba. Cabaye's return should be good for Ba and NUFC. I silently wish for a random hat -trick to come my way.. Haha

I have 2 free transfers, so if I do Ward to Evans as one transfer, is there any other transfers anyone would recommend with my other free one?

    Vorm, Krul
    Jones, Ward, Enrique, Simpson, Brown
    Nani, Gower, Silva, Walters, Drenthe
    Ba, RVP, Adebayor

not really. i'd hang on to your other transfer, unless you have enough funds to bring in bale

I would like the option to have your designed team strip applied to all the player on your "My Team" and "Latest Points" pages instead of the mish mash of different team tops.

I only say this because I have borderline OCD and can't stand untidyness, but I'd much prefer to see 11 player with all the same top. Anyone with me? Or am I just a weirdo?

My last 3 4pt hits have at least covered their cost, and got doubtful/unpromising players out of the squad to boot. I probably take more hits than most and at the start they sucked, but if you start calling them right they are very powerful at keeping your squad optimal for each week. Remember: if he's injured, they only need 4pts, bonus points soften the blow, and they often pay off beyond the week.

Agreed. I did an 8 point hit a few weeks back to restructure my team. It was worked well so far and over 2 or 3 weeks I'd say it has been paid off and puts me in good stead for upcoming games.

      This.

I took a couple of large hits earlier in the season to clean out the deadwood and get in players I wanted that were in danger of rising out reach. I feel it paid off fairly quickly, and looking at my GW history it's pretty obvious when I took them - my scoring average has risen by roughly 20 points a week.

If it's well thought out and done at the right time, it can absolutely pay off.

It often seems as if they rarely pay off, but I doubt you could come really high overall without taking a few well chosen hits

Hi guys! 🙂 RMT, if you please:

    Vorm (Ruddy)
    Kompany, J.Evans, Enrique (Caulker, Brown)
    Drenthe, Nani, Bale, Silva (Eagles)
    RvP, Sturridge, Ba

    1.1 in bank

I'm hoping to bring in Baines before the 2xGW and to switch out Caulker and Evans for more nailed-on defenders during the January wildcard.

ok reposting this. team for GW 18:

    vorm (krul)
    enrique, evans, raylor, (naylor, simpson)
    nani, silva, ramsey, vdv (gower)
    rooney, ade, morison

took a 4 point hit to bring in nani, morison, evans for eagles, dzeko, jones.

obviously, i'm hamstrung with vdv 😉 so would it be worth to:

    A) VDV --> bale now for total 8 point hit; then next week do something with ramsey or raylor
    B) VDV --> bale and do something with ramsey or raylor for 4 pt hit

"Hamstrung with VDV"... will you be here all week? 😉

I'd vote for B. You need to cut VDV loose as soon as you can, you're only going to lose money on him if you wait longer. Raylor could go next week for a Spurs defender in preparation for the DGW.
