Expectations were high. We’ve had out fill of Christmas spirit, it was now left to Fantasy football to cheer us – to gift wrap a bountiful gameweek of goals and clean sheets. We anticipated a feast of football, we were fed warmed-up leftovers.

Lacklustre performances, rotating team-sheets and early substitutions conspired to produce what, so far, has been the most ordinary gameweek imaginable.

Cheslea’s tepid showing in the 1-1 draw with Fulham started proceedings, offering an early warning; Sir Alex Ferguson’s teamsheet then added to the frustration. Phil Jones’ absence was signposted, while the United boss understandably preserved his punch drunk starlet, the decision to rest Wayne Rooney to the bench took us all by surprise. While we will go into gameweek 19 anticipating heavy tinkering, Rooney was fully expected to be in the lineup and well placed for heavy profits when Wigan arrived at Old Trafford.

Another 5-0 scoreline, with a hat-trick for the forgotten Dimitar Berbatov, rubbed salt into this particular wound. The Bulgarian claiming his third goal from the spot, with Rooney on the pitch. There were further twists from United’s rout – with Jones absent, Jonny Evans was also denied a clean sheet, removed at half-time following a first half booking, nursing a calf injury. With a Nani blank, only those who had the foresight to acquire the slow-burning Antonio Valencia will come out of United’s canter with profit.

Elsewhere, we were left with scraps. City’s stalemate at the Hawthorns delivered another blank for Sergio Aguero, Liverpool once again struggled to notch goals – this time against basement club Blackburn, who also spoiled the anticipated clean sheet.

Only those who kept faith Newcastle’s assets following their recent slump, can really muster any satisfaction. Ryan Taylor marked his return to the starting lineup with an assist to accompany the Reebok cleanie, while Demba Ba again demonstrated his deadly consistency – his goal, a fourteenth of the season, sealed the three points and gave the Senegal striker six strikes in six games.

Even so, with just Stoke and Villa left to play, Boxing Day passed with whimper. Boozed-up and bloated, this was a soporific day which saw our Fantasy lineups do little but go through the motions. The holiday is over – get ‘em in early for training in the morning.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Repost as I was ignored like a ginger step kid last time.

Any suggestions what to do with my team? Got 2 frees.

    Ruddy
    Kompany, Smalling, McAuley
    Sinclair, Nani, Bale, Drenthe
    Rooney (c), RVP, Sturridge
Subs – Vorm, Moses, Brown, Simpson

Gona go with Rooney (c) next week.. Rooney will be nailed on to start and fancy an RVP rest.
Also think Swansea will concede v Spurs so might as well chance Ruddy v a poor Fulham away side.

Thinking Brown to Shotton? If Shotton loses his place... I can get rid during the Jan wildcard anyway so its low risk and chance of defensive and attacking points v Wigan.

Then still have two frees to do Sinclair & Rooney to VDV and Adebayor during the double gameweek.

well looks like I'm safely through in FFC, I'm on 30 with 3 left, he's on 25 with 1 (and it's Bale who I have) and the only player he has who's likely to get bonus is Baines.

For once, I don't think anyone is going to complain about the bonus points. It's going to be utterly random!

Majority of people in my league have captained RVP. About 10 out of 32. I have him but not as captain. Do I want him to score? About 6 of them are around my position. Strange dilemma

I'm on 14 with Vorm, Verm, Sinclair, Bale, Ade & RVP (c) to go. I need RVP to go crazy. A Verm goal & cleansheet will lessen the sting of me bringing in Evans as well.

Could be a cracking idea... never captained a defender before personally, but still 🙂

Nani came off after 64 minutes - surely a tell-tale sign he'll get some good minutes v Blackburn? The captain's armband is going to him at present. I've noticed he has one shite fantasy week followed by a good one....he is due a monster haul v Blackburn.

would think so, job was done so Fergie pulled him off to give him a rest, the armband is staying on him, but with a cheeky Jones vc.

I've got the armband on Nani for next week because I think he is certain to start and has megapoints potential. I can't see RVP starting against QPR.

Question fellas, WIlkinson’s been unflagged, he was on the bench today. Any chance that he might start the next game? What are the chances. As Im contemplating an Evans > Huth move.

Should I go for it? Or stick to Wilko??

Who is more likely to play if all players in Stoke defense are fit; Wilkinson or Shotton?

Shotton is not currently being chosen ahead of Wilkinson, so for his versatlity and throwins it has to be him.

Having one more game syndrome with Ba. Was going to get rid for Sturridge this week but glad I didn't now. Now considering keeping him for the Liverpool game and not taking a hit so I can get rid of Evans.

I want to keep him too, but then i also want to play Enrique next GW. I'm thinking Sturridge will outscore him over the next 3, so may just do the transfer tonight

If I take a 4 pointer it will be Evans to Smalling and Ba to Sturridge but do I really want to carry on trying to second guess cheap defenders in a big team

I have Sturridge but I reckon your aswell sticking with Ba until he leaves for the AKON. Chelsea are proving that there season is gonna be up and down without much continuity. Sturridge has been good but Ba's form merits staying in ur team.

Ba to Sturridge, tonight would seem to be the time before the rise. It does seem a trifle daft given how well he's done tho. Mmm...trifle...

Bought him for 6.7 and sell him for 7.1. He is currently 7.5.

How long is he at the African Nations?

Will depend how well they do I guess. Play 21st, 25th & 29th of Jan, reasonable chance of qualifying for quarters on 4/5th of Feb. May miss gw 22-25 at least.
