Expectations were high. We’ve had out fill of Christmas spirit, it was now left to Fantasy football to cheer us – to gift wrap a bountiful gameweek of goals and clean sheets. We anticipated a feast of football, we were fed warmed-up leftovers.

Lacklustre performances, rotating team-sheets and early substitutions conspired to produce what, so far, has been the most ordinary gameweek imaginable.

Cheslea’s tepid showing in the 1-1 draw with Fulham started proceedings, offering an early warning; Sir Alex Ferguson’s teamsheet then added to the frustration. Phil Jones’ absence was signposted, while the United boss understandably preserved his punch drunk starlet, the decision to rest Wayne Rooney to the bench took us all by surprise. While we will go into gameweek 19 anticipating heavy tinkering, Rooney was fully expected to be in the lineup and well placed for heavy profits when Wigan arrived at Old Trafford.

Another 5-0 scoreline, with a hat-trick for the forgotten Dimitar Berbatov, rubbed salt into this particular wound. The Bulgarian claiming his third goal from the spot, with Rooney on the pitch. There were further twists from United’s rout – with Jones absent, Jonny Evans was also denied a clean sheet, removed at half-time following a first half booking, nursing a calf injury. With a Nani blank, only those who had the foresight to acquire the slow-burning Antonio Valencia will come out of United’s canter with profit.

Elsewhere, we were left with scraps. City’s stalemate at the Hawthorns delivered another blank for Sergio Aguero, Liverpool once again struggled to notch goals – this time against basement club Blackburn, who also spoiled the anticipated clean sheet.

Only those who kept faith Newcastle’s assets following their recent slump, can really muster any satisfaction. Ryan Taylor marked his return to the starting lineup with an assist to accompany the Reebok cleanie, while Demba Ba again demonstrated his deadly consistency – his goal, a fourteenth of the season, sealed the three points and gave the Senegal striker six strikes in six games.

Even so, with just Stoke and Villa left to play, Boxing Day passed with whimper. Boozed-up and bloated, this was a soporific day which saw our Fantasy lineups do little but go through the motions. The holiday is over – get ‘em in early for training in the morning.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Weird day. I was so close to doing Smalling to Evans at 11.25 and thought nah Ill leave it.
    Cursed myself when the lineups came out.

    At FT, it was a genius move as Evans got 0 and Simpson comes in for Smalling. Nice.

        +1. Can't understand why Ba owners are so desperate to ship him out. Just wait til' he goes.

        Form over fixtures, he scored at Old Trafford (albeit from the penalty spot) and looks so dangerous every week he plays.

        I did it just now..

        It would have wasted an extra 0.1 tomm.. without gaining anything..

        I think Ba might/will also score a goal or 2 against liv+manu but more chances os sturridge scoring against villa/wolves..

        Both will score.. both will rise in prices.. and Ba will leave for ACON after manu fixture.

    Larsson on the bench ended up being a good decision, same with spending points to drop Yaya (only yellow card in the entire match) for Valencia and PJones for Baines. Captaining Nani and leaving Simpson as my last sub was not. Thought of sticking Krul in for Vorm yesterday, then didn't - will see if this will pay dividends tomorrow, I suppose. Maybe Taylor (doubtful) won't play tomorrow and 'arry will rest BAE...

          I think Walcott will definitely be rested in one of the next few.

          There's bund to be rotation , and considering Gervinho is off the the African Nations Cup next month, I'd imagine Wenger won't have too many concerns about over-playing him in the next few games. That means Walcott will be prime candidate to have a break in favour of Arshavin/Benayoun.

      Not sure he's a naughty boy, but the dawning realisation in their simple minds that he's not 'the king' and is actually a pretty average manager is funny. His buying record is up there as one of the worst i've seen too. Adam, Henderson (who's alright) Downing, Carroll. Selling Meireles. F*cking helllllllllll that's poor. The only good thing he did was sell Torres after his peak, but even that was pretty much forced.

        Liverpool's better signings since he took charge (Suarez, Enrique) have been made by Comolli, too not Dalglish.

        When Liverpool were looking for a replacement for Loony Rafa, Dalglish was put in charge of leading the recruitment process. After analysing a series of candidates with decent enough CVs, such as Hodgson, Rangnick, Jol and Rijkaard, Kenny decided that none were up to the job, so put himself forward.

        If you're arrogant enough to look at a list of managers like that and go "nah, they're all crap, I'd do a better job," you have to be able to back it up. Dalglish hasn't done that at all.

      I have both right now, will be shipping Ba before United game for Ade ready for Ba going for ACON and for DGW (unless of course Donovan is a 6 million striker in which case I may get Rafa back)

      Sturridge is nailed on as a starter,the fact that he came off so early means AVB knows he needs to rest him, I also have Ba and I will only sell for Ade for the dgw and no sooner,he is class

      It's a tricky one but Sturridge is still in good form and has nice fixtures coming up.

      I have to say, it's making me pretty mad. I am sticking until the last minute.

      Why ship a player in great form for Sturridge?

      Sturridge is not a rotation risk. I am going to keeping Ba purely cos I have 3 injured players.

      Same here.
      I'm selling Ba having bought at 6.1, so as I had planned to bring in Sturridge I should do it now before he rises much more, but he can score against anyone and despite Liverpool having conceded the fewest goals in the league Ba could still come up with something.

      Sturridge should be nailed on considering he's often been the second best on the pitch behind mata and Drogba's leaving, I just have another 6 hours to decide and then knee jerk 😛

    would love a Warnock goal. My main rival has taken to trying to get the same team as me in order to stay ahead and so took Warnock out for Jones this week, would make my day.

    Naylor (Pilkington, Simpson) +4 points vs Caulker (BAE, Gomez) (me)

    Me and my cup opponent still have Vorm, Bale, Ade, RVP (C) to play as well as the above, so it comes down to an unfit Swansea defender vs a playing one.

    All I can hope is for generous BPs for my differentials, Naylor to miss out, Swansea clean sheet and Pilkington to come on for a 1 pt cameo.

    How likely is any of that?

    The difference for potential BPs is Raylor, Dempsey, Yaya, Rooney vs. Nani, Drenthe, Silva, Ba

    So I guess Dempsey, Raylor and Ba likely to get them of those.

    Maybe I'll be going out, it's been a poor week

    Need RVP(c) and Ade and Bale to fire. Also Sorenson to keep cleanie

    10 points behind. He has Sinclair Ramsey Walters and Friedal

    Chances but Rvp needs to at least assist

    Plenty of people are still bringing Ba in, on 87% atm whereas Sturridge is 127%. I think alot of people are unsure, but I made the call and swapped Ba for Sturridge.

    Given Vorm
    Simpson Enrique Jones Evans BAE
    Dyer Drenthe Silva Nani Walters
    RVP Ade Ba

    2.9 in bank, 2FT. Considering:

    1 - Ba---->Sturridge
    2 - Evans --->Kompany
    3 - Given + Evans --->Lindegaard/Sorensen + Kompany
    4 - Dyer ---->Gower/Moses/Surman
    5 - Evans + Ba ----->Kompany + Sturridge
    6 - any other options?

    Thoughts welcome (apologies for long post and hope all had gd xmas!)
