Expectations were high. We’ve had out fill of Christmas spirit, it was now left to Fantasy football to cheer us – to gift wrap a bountiful gameweek of goals and clean sheets. We anticipated a feast of football, we were fed warmed-up leftovers.

Lacklustre performances, rotating team-sheets and early substitutions conspired to produce what, so far, has been the most ordinary gameweek imaginable.

Cheslea’s tepid showing in the 1-1 draw with Fulham started proceedings, offering an early warning; Sir Alex Ferguson’s teamsheet then added to the frustration. Phil Jones’ absence was signposted, while the United boss understandably preserved his punch drunk starlet, the decision to rest Wayne Rooney to the bench took us all by surprise. While we will go into gameweek 19 anticipating heavy tinkering, Rooney was fully expected to be in the lineup and well placed for heavy profits when Wigan arrived at Old Trafford.

Another 5-0 scoreline, with a hat-trick for the forgotten Dimitar Berbatov, rubbed salt into this particular wound. The Bulgarian claiming his third goal from the spot, with Rooney on the pitch. There were further twists from United’s rout – with Jones absent, Jonny Evans was also denied a clean sheet, removed at half-time following a first half booking, nursing a calf injury. With a Nani blank, only those who had the foresight to acquire the slow-burning Antonio Valencia will come out of United’s canter with profit.

Elsewhere, we were left with scraps. City’s stalemate at the Hawthorns delivered another blank for Sergio Aguero, Liverpool once again struggled to notch goals – this time against basement club Blackburn, who also spoiled the anticipated clean sheet.

Only those who kept faith Newcastle’s assets following their recent slump, can really muster any satisfaction. Ryan Taylor marked his return to the starting lineup with an assist to accompany the Reebok cleanie, while Demba Ba again demonstrated his deadly consistency – his goal, a fourteenth of the season, sealed the three points and gave the Senegal striker six strikes in six games.

Even so, with just Stoke and Villa left to play, Boxing Day passed with whimper. Boozed-up and bloated, this was a soporific day which saw our Fantasy lineups do little but go through the motions. The holiday is over – get ‘em in early for training in the morning.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

This match is horrendous, not that I was expecting much.

0-0 would suit me just fine though, I have Shawcross, Shotton and Walters.

Some people need to take a reality check. Instead of saying your Christmas is ruined because you captained Rooney or Evans went off, why not go and check out the people whose loved ones have been killed or those sleeping in shop doorways under cardboard blankets. Pathetic.

That's their opinions... They will think why should your opinion matter to them..

This is a fantasy football fan site, so surely outside matters (i.e homeless people) should remain that way...

If they think 'it's ruined their Christmas', then I assume they are talking from a fantasy perspective. Reality and fantasy are two different words.

Ok guys, can anyone help me out?

I've been planning to transfer Ba out for Sturridge this week as part of my "masterplan". However seeing how rubbish he did today do you reckon bringing in someone like Morison might be a better idea, especially as Norwich have decent fixtures until GW21 when I can play my WC, which will let me beef up my midfield with Mata perhaps.

    Any thoughts?

FF Cup match is ultra tight. A yellow card might win it, or might even go to a tiebreak.

    Them: Vorm, Walters + 4pts
Me: Sorenson, Naylor - Naylor is doubtful, first sub is BAE and second Raylor.

    Who's gonna win?

      I think I'm even closer,
      Naylor +4 points vs Caulker

So a swans clean sheet without Naylor could win it for me, depending on bps

He has Pilkington then Simpson on the bench, so also need Pilks to sub in for 1 point tomorrow

Everyone seems to like Gary Neville as a pundit, or hate Gary Neville because he's Gary Neville.

I'm indifferent about him as Gary Neville (small-time bellend, but nothing more), but think he talks a load of shit as a pundit. He's not too bad in pre-prepared studio analysis, but spews a fair bit of unintelligible nonsense in more spontaneous situations - like in co-commentary.

Okay, he's a better pundit than Alan Hansen, but that's like being more popular in the black community than Luis Suarez.

You're kidding.. I'm ranked 45,000th at present, my cup opponent is ranked 2,100,000th and hasn't made a transfer all season. He'll win our match (unless RVP has a blinder tomorrow) because HE'S LEFT BERBATOV AS HIS CAPTAIN ALL SEASON!! Arghhh.

You aren't out yet, you just need to score 21 more points than Barton and Huth with Bale, Ade, Vorm and RVP(C). That is still a very winnable tie.

He even popped 7 points at keeper with Foster's first cleanie since GW 8. You are sunk. I pondered earlier what DF could possibly still have Berbs and could have possibly given him the arm band. Now I know. Sorry for your unfortunate demise.
