It didn’t take him long, did it? Ten minutes into his return to the Emirates and Thierry Henry had already made the headlines, notching the only goal in a 1-0 FA Cup Third Round win over Leeds and helping Arsene Wenger to his 300th home win as Arsenal boss…

Back at the North London outfit on a short-term loan deal, the former Gunners skipper is due to stay until the end of February, meaning he will be available for six league games before returning to parent club New York Red Bulls.

As both Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho depart for the African Cup of Nations, Wenger’s forward options have been restricted over the next few weeks, with the final of the tournament taking place on the weekend of gameweek 25. With Arsenal also facing FA Cup and Champions League duties, Henry has already highlighted how integral he could be to their fortunes over the next couple of months.

The Statistics

Arsenal’s all-time record scorer, now with 227 goals, Henry bagged 174 in the league from a total of 254 appearances, also providing 77 assists. Following his move to Barcelona, his first couple of campaigns at the Nou Camp saw him continue to rack up the goals, with 31 in 59 games in addition to 17 assists, though a disappointing third, and final, season saw Henry cut a peripheral figure- with many of his appearances from the subs bench, he netted just 4 times in 21 games.

His first campaign in the MLS was considerably patchy. Henry played 11 times, grabbing only 2 goals for the New York Red Bulls but has returned to goalscoring ways in the season gone by. Over 26 games, the Frenchman scored 14 times and provided 4 assists.

The Prospects

After a dismal start to the campaign, Arsenal sit just a single point off fourth place as the new summer acquisitions click into place. As Wenger chases a Champions League place for the fifteenth successive season, Henry offers plenty Premier League experience in comparison to the likes of Chu Young-Park and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. With Andrei Arshavin afforded two starts since gameweek 5, it’s fair to say the Russian has done little to impress Wenger this term. A front three of Robin Van Persie, flanked by the guile and craft of Henry and the explosive pace of Theo Walcott, makes for an intriguing Arsenal front three.

As mentioned, given that Henry is available until the end of February, the six games he is eligible for are (swa, MUN, bol, BLA, sun, TOT). The first league game Gervinho and Chamakh could be available for –providing their respective national teams are eliminated at the group stages- would be the gameweek 24 match at home to Blackburn. If they progress as far as the final or third-place play-off, though, the pair will both be back for the last of those fixtures, a home clash against Spurs.

Henry has admitted today he lacks fitness, though, and is “nowhere near a 90 minute game“. Regardless, you’d expect he will have some involvement in all six, with that showdown against Harry Redknapp’s side offering the perfect chance to sign off in style. If Monday night is anything to go by, you get the feeling that the script is already written for Henry to make a significant impact before he says his goodbyes for a second time.

I feel like I am wasting a transfer when I sell a GK or Def, so I try to stay farrrrrrrrr away from rotaion risks in defence. I have enought to worry about with my attackers

    Vermaelen, Enrique, brown (Simpson, kompany)
    Silva, bale, Valencia, drenthe (Moses)
    Rvp, adebeyor, Sturidge

    2 free trades
    Drenthe to McLean
    And adebeyor to Aguero
Thinking of just keeping and benching kompany

for this week or next? cuz spurs vs wolves should do quite well too.

maybe kompany to richards? pretty much as nailed on, more attacking threat, gets you some extra cash, and allows you to play him the next couple games. plus he plaed as an extra forrward towards the end of the game vs united when they were pushing for a goal so could be an added bonus if that ever happened again? probably reading too much into the last one

don't know if its too wise to triple up on newcastle defense. especially since you won't have a spot to get ba when he comes back.

overall looks like a good team. maybe drop ade for the city game which he cant play especially since he has pretty tough fixtures following that too.

I've used iamsuarez's brilliant defence rotation checker (link at bottom) to find the best defensive rotation if you have 1 expensive defender and 4 rotating cheapies. To ensure CS actually happens, I've considered cheap sides with defences good enough to deliver a CS at home (NEW, SWA, SUN, FUL, STO) which leaves out the unreliable likes of WBA, WOL, QPR, WIG and so on. The best rotations were NEW-SUN (0 games away from home), NEW-SWA (1 game away from home), FUL-SWA and FUL-STO (both 2 games away from home). Since we need 4 defenders I then had to test which 2 pairs rotated best with each other. The final answer was that the best 2 pairs together are:

    NEW-SUN
    FUL-SWA

Your bargain options here include, in order of nailed-on-ness:
    NEW: Williamson (4.2) = Simpson (4.4), Santon (4.2)
    SUN: Brown (4.5) = Bardsley (4.8), Kilgallon (4.0)
    FUL: Senderos (4.3), Kelly (3.9)
    SWA: Caulker (4.0) = Naylor (4.4) = Rangel (4.4)

Here's the breakdown of the fixtures for all 4 teams, divided into two periods: GW21-30 and GW30-38. Recommended fixtures are bracketed []. In the whole 18 GWs, there are only 2 GWs with less than 2 home games, and you will never have to play a team in the current top 5. The toughest team you'll have to face is Liverpool, but you'll be at home each time. You can play Blackburn 4 times, QPR 4 times, Wolves 4 times, Bolton 3 times and Villa 3 times.

    GW21-30
NEW: [QPR] ful......[bla]..[AVL]...tot...[WOL] [SUN] ars...[NOR] [wba]
FUL..: [bla] [NEW] [WBA] mci...[STO] [qpr]..[WOL] [avl] [SWA] mun
    SWA.: ARS..sun......CHE..[wba] [NOR] sto....[wig]...MCI...ful.....[EVE]
    SUN.: che..[SWA]..[NOR] sto.....ARS..[wba]..new...[LIV] [bla]....[QPR]

    GW31-38
    NEW: [LIV].....swa...[BOL] che....[STO]..ARS...MCI [eve]
    FUL..: [NOR] [bol]....CHE...liv......[WIG] eve...[SUN] tot
SWA..: tot.....[NEW] [qpr] [BLA]..[bol]..[WOL] mun [LIV]
    SUN..: mci.....TOT....eve...[WOL] [avl]..[wig]...[ful] MUN

PS: Don't forget if you get Evans you can have a cheapie who starts every match lowering the requirement to 1 defender from 3 of these teams - easy. You probably want to take out Swansea in that case.

PPS: Also, this rotation obviously applies to midfielders and strikers - particularly interesting in the case of NEW/SUN.

This is amazing, thank you! I've considered rotating Stoke/Blackburn in attack too. If you can bench the 2s and catch the hat tricks with Walters/Yakubu it could be more profitable than going for a big hitter. That is a big if.

Ta muchly, yeah I think non-defensive rotation is an area generally neglected here - consensus seems to be you should have one disappointing fifth mid tbh. Rotating cheap mids or strikers could free up funds for your important bits and put your whole squad to work wasting less money... I'm looking at Sess/HBA at home.

      Brilliant post, Isacki.

Another poster on here had ranked possible rotations (basically 1-20 ranks based on the strength of each team)

      1) Ful/ Stk = 236
      2) Avl/Stk = 227
      3) Ful/ New = 226
      4) Ful/ Swa = 223
      5) Swa/ Mun = 220
      6) Stk/ Swa = 204
      7) New/ Sun = 202
      8) Swa/ New = 183
      9) Swa/ Sun = 183

Yeah I saw that and FUL/STO looks great. I gave it a shot and it's okay with the other three but not the optimal. What I want to do instead is exploit the FUL/STO goalkeeper rotation on top of my defender rotation - Sorenson/Schwarzer will do nicely. Then the prototype (gamble!) team is

        FUL/STO
        Richards NEW/SUN FUL/SWA ...... probably Williamson/Brown Kelly/Caulker
Silva Bale STO / NEW / SUN ........ Walters / Barfa / Sessegnon
        RVP Rooney Aguero

I reckon that term will catch on 😀

Yeah really should do Senderos over Kelly but then Brown might have to become Kilgallon... element of risk in both.

Downgrading Barfa to McClean makes everything work , can get Roon in and upgrade a few..

Hahaha indeed that defence looks solid. I might stick with Vorm instead of Fulham (don't trust Schwarzer's fitness)

              Looking at:
              Vorm | Sorro
              Rich | Send | Caulk | Simp | Brown
              Silva | Bale | Nani | McClean | Cabaye
              RVP | Kun | Studge
              0.3 Bank

Honestly prefer Studge + Nani instead of Rooney + Medium/Cheap mid.

I'm on Studge atm but I guess I am losing confidence in the soap opera that is AVB's Chelsea. Nani has been so frustrating, I've had him twice this season and got burnt. Will wait on United to get their mid turning again (Cleverley and Anderson and Scholes returning) before bringing him back. If Silva really is injured it's an obvious swap.

Aha it's you! Yes it can't be considered by itself, particularly across only two teams, but over 4 it starts to be vital as most won't be playing top teams that week so bad fixtures in a few even out.

Your stats can break a tie if you're stumped in which rotation to go for - I would like FUL/STO in my GK at minimum.

I was rotating Larsson and Walters for a long time and it worked well. I never had the benched player scoring more than the playing player! Their fixtures continue to mesh well. However, Larsson starting scoring too many 2s and I got tired of Stoke in general and it's a lot of money tied up in the benched player. I got rid of both of them in my WC team, but for another SUN mid-fielder and NEW mid and used the extra money to upgrade one defender.

    Opinions?
Playing Walters and Williams when at home.

    Mignolet Vorm
Taylor R Williams Assou-Ekotto Senderos Clark
    Walters Silva Bale McClean Dempsey
    Aguero Rooney Sturridge

(no LFC coverage because with Suarez gone I see them struggling!)
got coverage of every team I think worthy of covering, really happy with this but any thoughts?

    Cheers boys!

Well I got RVP for 11.9 so he is wayyy better value for me, but even IF he plays behind Henry (which wont be soon since Henry isn't match fit). How does the change the fact that he is their main goal scorer and on pens and FKs AND corners. It might be boring to keep RVP but you need to stay focused.

So it looks like there may be a kernel of truth to that David Silva injury rumour that was doing the rounds after all.

Intriguing! I hadn't given the rumour much thought until now.

Silva absence will be a shame but damn it will open up the game again. WC teams will head in all sorts of directions - the other 10.0 mids are very dubious.

Plus, Silva began dropping before this, bet he will be kneejerked out in droves if he misses a few matches - letting us buy him back easily!

Neither had I, but you're right, this will have plenty of flow-on effects (especially with the WC in play). Those of us who've managed our teams well and have an all-round strong lineup can probably afford to bench him and ride the injury out... that's the way I'm leaning at this point.

Does this make Aguero more or less essential as City cover, do you think?

More essential I reckon. While Silva is brilliant I fancy City have more than enough mids to keep the supply up to Aguero and the fixtures are brilliant compared to the rest of the the challengers. I was going to have Aguero and Silva, I'll definitely have Aguero now otherwise that's a double blow for attacking points. Plus I fancy in the last month or so Silva was tired out by relentless play and wasn't so hot, but City did alright.

Cheers mate, had a bit of a horror moment where all my WC plans flashed before my eyes!

Having to re-think my team structure as a result though. Thinking maybe RVP + Aguero up front with a cheap (benched) third striker, making it possible to grab Mata in place of HBA, as cover for Silva sitting on the bench.

            What do you reckon?

Given cheap strikers are a bit quiet atm (and the Yak is just unpredictable) that's not a bad plan if you're keeping Silva. Danny Graham is embarrassingly cheap and even useful if you need him - actually pretty skilled and Swansea service gets better and better with Sigurdsson and McEachran arriving. That frees up massive money.

If Mata has decent home games soon I'd say go for it.

It's really a choice between a big mid and Rooney/Ade atm so weigh it up... fixtures aren't great for either but always have to be considered.

    Is Isacki there?

I analysed your suggested New/.Ful/ Swa/ Sun rotation, based on my number system. Choosing two players each time (presumably you plan to rotate with one big hitter?) gives a total of 447pts. The rotation that I am currently looking at New/ Ful/ Stk/ Man Utd (evans) gives 483. I'm not really sure what that means yet, as i've only ever used it to look at two teams, but that's what I get anyway. Thought you might be interested. Any other combos anyone would like me to check?

That's brilliant, yeah I was already considering the Evans version in my WC, the rotation I suggested is for absolute bargain basement. Sounds good, the advantage could be lost if benched of course!

Can we check: (you don't have to do them all if it takes ages, just the best on my H/A rotation ranking)
      NEW/SUN/STO/FUL
      NEW/SWA/STO/FUL

I was but looking at the Home/Away analysis that's ranked as the 16th best 🙁 (7/18 GWs you'll have to play away). FUL/STO better or FUL/SWA

No problem. Here you go. I've added a couple of others too. They are in rank order.

        FUL/NEW/MUN/STO = 483
        FUL/NEW/STO/SUN = 474
        MUN/NEW/STO/SUN = 467
        FUL/MUN/NEW/SWA = 466
        AVL/FUL/NEW/STO = 463
        FUL/NEW/STO/SWA = 462
        FUL/NEW/SUN/SWA = 447
        NEW/MUN/SUN/SWA = 434

The best overall rotation according to my figures is defenitely FUL/NEW/MUN/STO. But as nino pointed out, your hoping for evans and shotton to play. Your FUL/NEW/SUN/SWA comes way down the list, but at least the players involved would be pretty much nailed on (depending on what sunderland player you went for).

        Does this help?

Sorry I took a little while to reply, you must have thought I'd fallen asleep!

That is just perfect - just saved the list for future consideration.

So excluding MUN and AVL, FUL/NEW/STO/SUN and FUL/NEW/STO/SWA have the best fixtures by your count - but both have Shotton so a little risk (probably acceptable to me).

Clearly MUN and STO have better fixtures as they dominate the top spots, just a tradeoff against starting uncertainty.

Will mull over this. Just remind me, you calculate it by giving each team a difficulty 1-20... then you pick the best fixtures from the rotation and sum?

Thanks a lot China Mag and good night! Falling asleep...

My grading is taken directly from the scout grading. Dark red = 1, dark blue = 18. I would then take away the two lowest scores for each gameweek (ie the players who will be benched) from the 4 players in question, and total. And bob's your uncle. I think!
