There was plenty logic behind the move to draft in Yakubu this week. Having been rested for the FA Cup defeat at Newcastle, the Nigerian looked primed to play a significant part in the gameweek as Blackburn went looking for a win that would take them off the bottom of the table.

The first week of the winter wildcard bore fruit to that idea. Yakubu rose by 0.3, up to 6.1 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) pricings, as over 220,000 Fantasy managers clambered to get a piece of the action ahead of the Fulham showdown.

It seemed a sensible acquisition. Yakubu had been instrumental in Rovers’ 3 wins so far this season, grabbing braces against Arsenal and Man United, in addition to a 4 goal haul at home to Swansea. If Steve Kean’s side were to grab all three points, you’d have thought he would surely play a part.

A red card within twenty-two minutes quickly put an end to those best-laid plans. Dismissed for a reckless, studs-up challenge on Danny Murphy, Yakubu ended the gameweek on the princely score of -2 and is now set for an enforced leave of absence. He begins a three-match that puts him out of the picture until the gameweek 25 home clash with QPR and leaves Kean facing (eve, NEW, ars) with a strike force that have scored 6 goals between them all season.

With Demba Ba off on international duties and Emmanuel Adebayor unavailable for Spurs’ game against his parent club Man City, Fantasy forward lines look set for a significant shake-up over the upcoming couple of gameweeks. The irony here is that Yakubu was the main beneficiary from Ba’s trip to the African Cup of Nations- with Nigeria having failed to qualify, he offered an in-form cut-price option as a replacement for the Newcastle man.

This afternoon’s moment of folly, though, means the chance afforded was no more than a fleeting one, as schedules are once again scanned and budgets readjusted to accommodate further alternatives.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    tweaked bp predictions:

    Bent 3, Ireland 2, Anichebe 1
    Dunn 3, Pederson 2, Formica 2
Cole 3, Lampard 2, Bosingwa 1 (close Cech)
Wilson 3, Huth 2, Woodgate 1 (close Skrtel, quite dependant on how Wilson is scored, he plays in defence but is classed as a mid in FPL so it may affect his clean sheet PPi)
Carrick 3, Welbeck 2, Scholes 1 (swap Welbeck and Carrick round if Welbeck gets the assist)
Fletcher 3, Johnson 2, Modric 2 (close Walker)
Surman 3, Hoolahan 2, Morison 1 (close Long)

Just to clarify, this incident was less than a minute after Chelsea should have been given a penalty, and the ball went out of play, without the referee giving Chelsea a throw in, seconds before the ball was crossed in for this penalty shout.

Rival who is 100 points ahead has very similar team to me, but is not going to wc until gw24, so might gain some, but it gives him time to see my team which will give him advantage. Thoughts?

Rooney's pass was good, and if it grazed Welbeck he shouldn't deserve credit for it. It would be like giving assists to goalposts for shots hitting the post, rather than the player setting it up. Silliness.

How did he perform today against Blackburn with ten men and without their best defender? i did see his disallowed goal, was tight call. 8.5 too steep in my opinion

I do see your point, does seem a lot when you have Sess and Walters at 2 million or so and on similar points, but people feel he will outperform them until the rest of the season. It's similar to the Nani vs Valencia debate

I really dont know, i originally thought he was a great way into the Chelsea attack but you never really know where AVBs head is. Heard a couple of Chelsea fans on 606 tonight who were growing more and more disillusioned with the teams direction. Im considering staying away from them.

With subs and bonus I think it will at least mid 30s probably up to 38 or 40+ if Man City/Arsenal keep clean sheets and RVP/Aguerro score. What a week to face Average in the H2H ðŸ™

Lots of captain material in those teams and fairly high ownership. I hope you're right though.

and on my wc i'd be doing jones to richards, ward to senderos/kelly depending on money and possibly changing kenny and brown
