There was plenty logic behind the move to draft in Yakubu this week. Having been rested for the FA Cup defeat at Newcastle, the Nigerian looked primed to play a significant part in the gameweek as Blackburn went looking for a win that would take them off the bottom of the table.

The first week of the winter wildcard bore fruit to that idea. Yakubu rose by 0.3, up to 6.1 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) pricings, as over 220,000 Fantasy managers clambered to get a piece of the action ahead of the Fulham showdown.

It seemed a sensible acquisition. Yakubu had been instrumental in Rovers’ 3 wins so far this season, grabbing braces against Arsenal and Man United, in addition to a 4 goal haul at home to Swansea. If Steve Kean’s side were to grab all three points, you’d have thought he would surely play a part.

A red card within twenty-two minutes quickly put an end to those best-laid plans. Dismissed for a reckless, studs-up challenge on Danny Murphy, Yakubu ended the gameweek on the princely score of -2 and is now set for an enforced leave of absence. He begins a three-match that puts him out of the picture until the gameweek 25 home clash with QPR and leaves Kean facing (eve, NEW, ars) with a strike force that have scored 6 goals between them all season.

With Demba Ba off on international duties and Emmanuel Adebayor unavailable for Spurs’ game against his parent club Man City, Fantasy forward lines look set for a significant shake-up over the upcoming couple of gameweeks. The irony here is that Yakubu was the main beneficiary from Ba’s trip to the African Cup of Nations- with Nigeria having failed to qualify, he offered an in-form cut-price option as a replacement for the Newcastle man.

This afternoon’s moment of folly, though, means the chance afforded was no more than a fleeting one, as schedules are once again scanned and budgets readjusted to accommodate further alternatives.

I do think he will start, Sunderland had plenty of chances today due to Bosingwa and Luiz wandering around. Cahill has discipline so I do think he will slot in with Terry and potentially Luiz as RB. At least this is what I hope for as a Chelsea fan.

    Vorm/Ruddy
    JAGS/Enrique/Evans/Walker/Simpson
    Nani/Bale/Silva/Etherington/FERGUSON
    ADE/YAK/rvp

Those in bold will have to be changed at some point. What do you reckon? Jags > Huth & Yak > Fletcher is an option.

I wouldn't mock you but I don't think it's a good idea, he seems to like a shot at goal these days and he's a better aim than most but he's our holding midfielder, he might roam a little more now Scholes is there to keep it together but I wouldn't expect great returns from him. Then again, I have Nani so I can't really talk

I'd say Nani will start. He took him off early again today and I wonder if he's not happy with his performances but I'd guess at Nani. Don't bother getting him though, Valencia is in much better form

I'm not considering buying him, I'm stuck with the ****. Pondering what to do with him.

To be honest Nani has been sh*te lately. Fergie loves Park for the big games; can't see him dropping Valencia - sounds like he had a decent game again too. Wouldn't be the biggest shock in the world to see Nani given some bench time.

Park, he plays against Arsenal more often than not because of his work ethic.

It don't matter anyway, the result will be the same as last year, United will not be playing Arsenal's Carling Cup side like last time.

Vidic won't be around with his handballs this time as well. 😉

Normally I'd expect it to be Park, especially given the wretched form Nani is in. But this time round is there any need to play Park out wide on the left against Djourou?!

I think so, Djourou is poor but he does attack when he's at fullback, will Nani track him? Park will.

Enrique started the season at 5m so nearly everyone has him over Skrtel but now their prices are almost the same I don't see much difference.

I personally feel Skrtel is more of a goal threat.

Next GW's fixtures look grim. Might take a punt on Fletcher for Wolves.

How does this look for an early WC team?

    Krul - Vorm
Richards - Senderos - Skrtel (will probably go to Enrique after price rise) - BAE - R Taylor
    Silva - Sess - Bale - Dempsey - McClean
    Fletcher - Aguero - RVP

    Thanks!
