Amidst all the lunchtime controversy, it was, perhaps, easy to overlook Wayne Rooney’s display at Old Trafford. While the Suarez-Evra shows no sign of abating, Rooney’s brace lifted United back to the summit and brought him firmly back into Fantasy considerations, setting the tone for Emmanuel Adebayor’s performance this evening…

There’s no denying Rooney’s been wildly off-form. A couple of penalties at Stamford Bridge and “those” 2 assists against Bolton was all he had returned in the last seven gameweeks. Indeed, further analysis shows that, prior to last weekend, the United forward had scored in just three games since the end of Gameweek 5.

With winter wildcards affording us a chance to restructure, plenty Fantasy managers had turned their backs on Rooney. It was easy to see why. His indifferent form, in addition to a run of fixtures – (che, LIV, nor, tot) – had, aside from the trip Norwich, hardly looked appetising. With two strong home games for Man City and Newcastle just around the corner, Sergio Aguero and Demba Ba were drafted in by many, taking their places alongside man-for-all-seasons Robin Van Persie up front.

For as much as he can be a frustrating Fantasy pick, when Rooney hits a purple patch, his returns are rarely bettered. Back-to-back double points hauls make him hard to ignore right now but with Aguero hosting Blackburn and Bolton over Gameweeks 26 and 27, Ba welcoming Wolves and Sunderland, and Van Persie virtually undroppable, the United man may still struggle for our immediate attention.

Gameweek 28 looks the likely turning point. With United’s fixtures easing up, many will turn to Rooney as a replacement for Aguero. The champions face just one top eight team from there on in and the Argentine looks the obvious candidate for the chop; currently priced at 11.2 to Rooney’s 11.9, the move will require little budget-juggling, as Sir Alex Ferguson’s side ready themselves for the final quarter of the campaign.

As this article was being written, Emmanuel Adebayor conveniently decided to barge his way into the equation, too. Similar to Rooney, his poor recent form – a goal and assist in the last ten gameweeks- has seen his Fantasy owners desert the Tottenham forward in their droves.

Close to 300,000 have sold Adebayor in the past four gameweeks but a goal and 4 assists in Spurs’ game with Newcastle have served a reminder of his own undoubted qualities. Tottenham face Arsenal and United next but then go head-to-head with just two of the top eight from Gameweek 28 onwards.

With 10 goals and 11 assists, Adebayor has now played a part in more Spurs goals than Gareth Bale, despite the Welshman’s superior overall consistency. He’s now climbed to fifth for forwards, with 130 points only 8 less than Demba Ba. Rooney is up to second top-scoring forward, now on 17 goals- only Van Persie has netted more. With their aforementioned strong schedules to come, there’s little doubt they’ll both plunder plenty more points before the season end.

In what has proved to be a hugely disappointing gameweek so far, those Fantasy managers who have one, or both, of the pair are likely to see a substantial boost up the rankings. Patience, and plenty of it, was all that seemed to be required.

    BAE form 18-1-1-6-6-12

It needs skills or something to own him 3 consecutive weeks on that period scoring less than 10 points total. But I managed to do it.

BAE->Huth was my bandwagon to sink with.

The 18 points sucked you all into buying him , and the 1 1 plus difficult fixtures forced you all out.

I had him for a few weeks but sold him on WC in GW23. The goal was pretty lucky, you don't buy Benoit '2 goals in 5 seasons' Assou-Ekotto for his goals. He won't be getting a cleanie in his next 3.

Ba's price will rise, at least 0.1 now its a new gameweek

I don't think people understand how the system works... there is no 0.3 cap on price rises, its just pure numbers.

say 30K net transfers in are required in one gameweek for a 0.1 price rise.
thats 60K MORE for another 0.1
and 120K MORE for another 0.1
and 240K more for a 0.4 price rise

so something like 450, 000 net transfers in are required for a 0.4 price rise in one GW.
Considering that's probably close to half the active managers, it's pretty unlikely.

            The 60K & 120K marks aren't there for the 2nd & 3rd rise. Chances are the 240K is irrelevant also but it's a possibility.

For gods sake I have Richards, Silva, Dzeko to play, think I am hoping for City to concede as cup opponent is on a 6 point lead but doubled up on City defence.

    I have

    Richards, Silva, Dzeko

    vs

    Kompany, Richards, Silva

Our teams are pretty similar except for bonus points he has Graham to my Valencia, so probably gained a few points there aswell.

I do fancy Dzeko to do well in fairness, but it's going to be tight.

Richards attacking threat is my thinking to be ahead of Kompany for future pushing on the in the leagues, but hadn't anticipated both at once.

Dzeko double and Villa scoring one, may be enough to squeeze through.

I have 2FT and am looking to get in Rooney. To do so I have to sell Valencia as I am not selling Linde and Evans. Because Nani is due back it may not be such a bad idea. I will also sell Dzeko because Belotelli is back from suspension and will look to bring in Surman.

    To sum up

    Valencia > Surman
    Dzeko > Rooney

Is my logic sound? I will be left with $0 in the bank.

Yep and its fair logic. Although I think United will score plenty away to Norwich. So for me its really down to just 1 game rather than 2. That makes it worth saving an extra transfer for me

i am lfc , tried to be fair as poss, not sure about terry though.

Shearer, Henry are clearly the 2 main strikers from Premier League period.

I'm not a big Lampard fanboy, but 148-149 Premier League goals as a central midfielder means surely he has to be up there.

Highest scoring midfielder in Premier League history I think (far from 100% on that, but think that's correct?)

Oh don't get me wrong I would have Gerrard over Lampard if I was picking a team.

But for actual Premier League impact, Lampard has to be ahead of him.

Depends what the question is though, is it actually the best team you could make from the Premier League, or the Best 11?

I don't mean Lampard is in on fantasy points.

By influence Lampard has had the impact in the Premier League scoring goals and winning titles.

Gerrard's biggest performances that people will list are in the Champions League and Fa Cup.

He's dragged a struggling team to the edges of contention for a long time, but would say it's definately debatable who's a better Premier League player between him and Lampard.

It's possibly a good move if you like taking massive gambles.

my team for next week at the moment is

    Vorm
    Richards Santon Evra

    Dempsey Valencia Sessengnon Bale Sinclair

    VP Ba

with stephen fletcher on the bench. Would sinclair and fletcher out and balotelli with taraabt in be a good move or is there a better transfer i could make them on?

Indeed!! 23 points with Kompany, Silva and Aguero to play is pretty shocking!!

Any ideas for transfer moves to the below this week? 2 freebies and 0.0m in the bank. I am also going to be wildcarding in GW28.

1 has to be to remove Huth - was thinking about doubling on NEW defenders, so perhaps Williamson. The other, I have no idea. Perhaps some CHE coverage?

    Sorenson, Schwarzer
    Kompany, Simpson, Rangel, Caulker, Huth
    Silva, Bale, Dempsey, Sigurdsson, Moses
    RVP, Aguero, Ba
