We should have known better. Back in Gameweek 10, when Arsenal visited Stamford Bridge we turned our backs on other heavyweight temptations and kept faith with Robin Van Persie in the Scout Picks. He repaid us with a hat-trick.

Ever since Van Persie has done more than enough to ensure that we never doubted his ability to score goals, regardless of opposition. And yet, with a trip to Liverpool and Van Persie’s niggling groin on our minds, we chose to look elsewhere this weekend. Similarly, thousands opted to ignore Van Persie and hand the armband to Sergio Aguero. True to form, the Dutchman punished us all, leaving it to Gylfi to save our Scout Picks blushes.

Of course, Van Persie latest exhibition of clinical finishing was worsened by Roberto Mancini’s decision to rest Aguero. Presumably drained by a midweek outing for Argentina, Aguero sat out his first City game since Gameweek 8 having started every league fixture since. City duly struggled to put Bolton to bed at the Etihad, throwing the kitchen sink and even Edin Dzeko at the brave Adam Bogdan in the Trotters goal. Eventually City wore them down – Balotelli finally finding his range after a catalogue of missed chances. The back four also pocketed a fourth consecutive clean sheet, although Micah Richards owners missed out again – another cruel blow dealt by the merciless Mancini.

We should perhaps be thankful – Aguero failed to show his cheeky little face – Mancini kept his ace goalscorer up his immaculately tailored sleeve to take to Lisbon on Thursday. That meant the Fantasy Premier League vice captain kicks in. For some fortunate souls, that might see Van Persie step up, others will look to Demba Ba or Clint Dempsey tomorrow. Spare a thought for those who opted for David Silva, however, Mancini dealt them double the sorrow to drown tonight. No Aguero, no Silva – there should be a phone line set up for this kind of thing.

Indeed, the fallout from all this could be significant. There’s nothing like frustration from rotation to spark the Fantasy manager’s knee into life. Those who captained Aguero will likely be so embittered, the Argentine will be unceremoniously shown the door by thousands. Wayne Rooney or a double dose of Luis Suarez will surely be lined up to replace him for Gameweek 28 – prices will be volatile for days.

With Carlos Tevez stretching sinews on the City training ground and today’s decision by Mancini likely to linger long in the memory, Aguero may struggle to win back our faith this season. Talking of which – we’ll knock back our Van Persie medicine with a pint or two and hope it helps us remember never to doubt him again. Punishing stuff.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

united players interest me more and im a liverpool fan!!!

we cant seem to find the back of the net and we have a double gameweek against sunderland away which is tough as it is... and then everton home which is yellow and red card fest.

im going in without any doubles... it could hurt me but id rather have rooney than suarez thats for sure

Yeah Rooney over Suarez all day long for me. I don't really see why people are loading up on Pool players when they're in such poor form, and Sunderland and Everton are fairly tough games.

Makes sense to get at least one Pool player regardless as they've got a great run ahead ... but I'll admit I've pulled the trigger on a potential lemon and brought in one Luis Alberto Suárez Díaz. Might even put the armband on the little bleeder!

But what use is the great run when they're in poor form and haven't scored many goals thise season? I could get Enrique for a 4 point hit but I don't really see the point.

Depends what you're trying to do, I'm coming second in my league by 50 points and need that differential ... if you're flying out in front then play the safe card i guess.

I guess the cat's out of the bag now. He was skipping past the city defenders so easily, his final shot wasn't quite good enough to beat Hart but against weaker opponents he should do very well. He's dubbed the 'asian ronaldo'. Very good pace and skill.

Not convinced. There's too many questions around him at the moment. His position. His form. How new players will affect his chances. I think he'll score a goal though. But i think his double pting days are over for now.

Yeah good point, i should of touched on his position, as i know now he's been pushed a little back, and like you say other players affecting his chances, hopefully though he'll remind us that he's still the potent threat of fulham, just like v.persie reminded us all today for arsenal 🙂

Definitely minimum! I think with Parker out, and so many defensive injuries he has a great chance. Especially as he is well rested. He seems to do well after rests, that why he performed so well at the start of the season. I think King and Walker have knocks as well, Tottenham are running out of defenders!

Bit of a frustrating GW so far.

After worrying about RVP's fitness i went with Aguero as captain, then Silva VC as one of them had to play....!
I had Wilkinson in Defence and he went off after 25 minutes so no cleanie.
I pondered between Rangel, Shotton and Tawio as my transfer this week... i picked Tawio 🙁

Currently on 38 points with Sessegnon, Simpson, Evans, Bale and Ba to play....

Aguero, Taiwo and Silva missing for me today.

Need Bale, Kelly and Evans to all play. Anyone heard any recent news on the first 2?

      Wigan, Bolton, Blackburn.

As for the first two, hurray, there hasn't been a compelling reason to watch either team for years, as far as I can tell. (Go ahead, blast away)

I really fancied a piece of Pilkington but him being hauled off at half time worries me.

Norwich have some great fixtures coming up but is it worth staying away just because of the rotation risk?

I was thinking exactly the same thing to help raise some cash for Rooney. The problem with Norwich players, is that Lambert really likes to rotate his squad so there is always a risk. My main concern when picking players for my squad is guaranteed game time, so I reckon for that price you probably want to look at players like Siggy, Moses etc

right but i can't afford kompany and rooney, and rooney should bring in significantly more points during the run in, + is a captaincy option. so i need to pick him.

lescott has played 3 more minutes than kompany this season (although kompany has missed a few through suspension [and injury?]) and has 5 less points, but costs .5 less. also, he's played 90 min of every game since kolo came back, shrug.

i guess the other option is to just do one transfer this week and save my other free to downgrade elsewhere and bring in kompany after next gw, but then i'm gambling on richards actually getting gametime.

Balotelli started because 1) He hadn't played in Italy's midweek friendly, 2) Aguero had gone 90 vs Switzerland, 3) Mancini needs top guys rested for coming week's Thursday Europa League away match and Sunday's trip to Swansea, 4) Home vs Bolton was easiest match of current run to sit his top guys. Balotelli certainly didn't cover self with glory with the number of whiffs he had today.

Think he's 6.8 right now. Was going to suggest Skrtel, possibly, unless you didn't want to double up on Liverpool defense. They don't face much challenge over the next six weeks, though.

no im thinking about doubling up on pool defense but wasn't sure which other defender would be best. so thanks! so that means the options are skrtel, evans, or a city defender (have no clue which one is the best bet though....). if i did skrtel or a city defender then id do evans the next week for taiwo the next week and if i did evans then id do skrtel or a city defender the next week probably

So why is everyone doing Aguero to Rooney now?

I'm a United fan but a few things worry me about the above move. First of all we've got the Spurs game. Wayne's been out with niggling injuries and this throat infection, his form isn't 100% and tackles will no doubt go flying in tomorrow. Assesing his fitness and making sure he's not injured would bet first issue.

Also, having lived with a West Brom fan for years I can tell you it's not an easy fixture. Theyve caused us issues in a few of our more recent meetings and having beaten Chelsea will be well up for the game.

Aguero > Suarez > Rooney seems the obvious move to me. Am I alone in thinking this?

I had to laugh when Dyer got sent off earlier, coming off the bench he might have got me 6 points or more considering there was still plenty of time left. At least he got that assist and CS though, I still get 3 points despite the -3 for a red card. The one time he appears he might be a useful asset he high-foots a guy. It also messes up potential transfers this week, kicking myself I didn't go for Dyer>Siggy this week, felt like too sideways a move with Graham up front too.

Do you think I should keep Zamora for Bolton Away? Any thoughts?

I'd move Zamora on for Pog personally.

I've got Dyer as well, atleast he got sent off at 60:11 and not 12 seconds earlier. I chose to play him over McClean but with Aguero and Silva out it doesn't make any difference.

I'm just going to keep Dyer on the bench. I don't think he'll go down more than .1 and I'd prefer to go with my original transfer plans this week.
