You can tell it’s been a bad day when you find yourself clinging to the comfort from a late assist from an Arsenal loanee. And yet, on a Saturday of paltry Fantasy returns and double disappointment from Liverpool, a slither of skill from Ryo Miyaichi that picked the lock of the QPR defence, stood out as a highlight.

Having commanded a degree of Fantasy attention this week, partly fuelled by our own over coverage here and here, the 19-year-old did at least show enough to indicate that he could justify some of the hype. With fixtures presenting Miyaichi an opportunity to demonstrate his talent and for Bolton to find results that could pull them away from the trapdoor, the interest will surely increase. A bandwagon of sorts was born with a neat turn and threaded pass this afternoon – a glint of potential in a day otherwise bereft of encouragement for Fantasy managers.

Liverpool undoubtedly provided the biggest slap in the face. Slipping to their third league defeat in a row, Kenny Dalglish’s men huffed and puffed but were ultimately undone by a Nicklas Bendtner goal. Their clean sheet dirtied, Luis Suarez again showed skill and threat without delivering points. His alarming lack of goals continues – those who tentatively wrapped armband on him in hope of change in fortune must now look to Tuesday’s Merseyside derby. A cauldron awaits, with Phil Dowd wielding a big spoon to stir the pot.

On this evening’s evidence at Goodison, we shouldn’t expect a classic, although Everton would have been hugely satisfied with their 1-0 win over Spurs. A smart finish on his full debut saw Nikica Jelavić instantly endear himself to the Goodison throngs. Few Fantasy managers will have taken a punt on the Croation, and Jelavić’s showing will surely, at best, raise a few eyebrows. At 5.9 in the FPL, he may well be budget friendly but with Fulham’s Pavel Pogrebnyak the current low-to-mid price flavor of the month taking up a slot in Fantasy forward lines, it’s unlikely we’ll find room for Everton’s January signing just yet.

Talking of Pogrebnyak, he drew a blank at Villa Park. With over 100,000 new owners and an FPL price rise of 0.3 during the week, the Russian failed to score for the first time in four appearances. Fulham’s record on the road is dismal – that’s four goals in the last seven away league games for Fulham. We shouldn’t be surprised by their striker’s failure, then, although Pogrebnyak’s blank after blossoming form was typical of a day to forget for Fantasy managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

              Vorm>Schwarzer
              Turner>McAuley
IMO Dempsey and Pog is overkill.
Other alternatives to Pog is Jelavic,Odemwingie,Holt,Yak,

Does nobody else think that serious questions should be asked of Dalglish now? I know they won the Carling Cup but still, you can't help but feel another manager spending over 100 million and doing worse than his predecessor would be under pressure.

Overall he has done terrible, just because he is a fan favorate there is no nead for the board to take him so lightly. If that was Benitez he'd be gone, winning the Carling Cup doesn't keep your job safe, just ask Juande Ramos.

If anyone else was the manager they would have been sacked. Spent £100m on average players except Suarez.
Ironic that some Liverpool fans are saying patience is needed, yet they didn't give it to Hodgson and were on his back as soon as they had a bad run.

Yeah it's a tough situation Bale owners have I reckon.
Spurs are looking pretty bad, and his only return in the last 5 weeks was that dive against Arsenal for the penalty.

Change of topic but really hope Utd go back to 433/451 in europe next season. Both Utd and City have done well with the 442 in the premier league but both also struggled in the champions league and now europa playing only 2 midfielders. It's weird that SAF, with all his experience of what happened in the 90s and 00s now goes back to 442 and not dominating possession.

This is sort of true, but it's clear fergie now prefers Rooney dropping off Welbeck. Problem is Rooney isn't great at defending space. Plus, he's our best attacking player so shouldn't be wasted in midfield anyway.

The Arsenal Invincibles 442 team also struggled in europe. It's just not the way to go in european competition.

Last year I remember Camzy adressing this FFS maxim and he said something that has always stuck with me.

Players aren't supposed t get injured. Its a rarity rather than the norm. Yes, it happens but not as ofte as you think.

When was the last time a player you wanted on Saturday night went up once or twice between Saturday and Friday night? Now think how many times the player you wanted to get on Saturday night got injured during the following week.

The odds realistically are much more in favour of the player you make an early transfer for actually staying healthy rather than him getting injured during the next 6 days.

And in some cases getting the player in early could be the difference between getting him altogether or having to do without and potentially missing out on a big haul he gets the week you don't have him.

Or, having to now take a points hit and downgrading another player in another position to get him in.

Sometimes you have to take a risk and play the percentages in this game rather than just be cautious and lose out.

I don't think anyone would suggest that you should not ALWAYS wait till Friday/Saturday. And if you can't afford the 0.1 rise then i don't think you'd find anyone on here telling you to wait. But in 99% of transfers you can afford the 0.1 rise

I'm with you on this one Nomar - i get my player in just before the price rises rather than waiting until the end of the week (which is how i build my team vakue uo so well). I don't think it's ever bitten me in the arse. **touches wood**. It will one day but i doubt it'd put me off.

Already done, if he gets injured then so be it, I'll bench him.
I'd rather risk an injury which, in reality, is unlikely, then not have Rooney for Wolves and be stuck with Suarez, regardless of opposition.
