[sbu_large_image] The Knee Jerk

A breathless day. City’s late salvo may have saved face but the 3-3 Etihad draw with Sunderland loosens their grip further, priming United to take advantage in Monday night’s Ewood encounter.

Fantasy managers will have a keen interest. For the second Gameweek running, Wayne Rooney will take to the field sporting the captaincy for some, needing just a single goal to outscore Robin Van Persie. Just like City’s faltering title aspirations, the Fantasy manager’s unshakable faith in the Arsenal skipper is beginning to waver.

Van Persie came away from a bitterly disappointing 2-1 defeat to relegation threatened QPR with just an assist. The Dutchman has now gone three league matches without a goal for the first time this season. By his standards, that’s a drought.

Clint Dempsey’s goal and assist return, with the woodwork denying him a further haul, acts as an immediate comparison from today’s action. Should Rooney fetch significant returns on Monday night, we could see a significant shift in favour away from Van Persie for the Gameweek 32 captaincy.

The scene was already set for such a move. Arsenal take on City at the Emirates – Rooney will face QPR at Old Trafford. On paper, that strongly favours the United man, although given today’s results, it’s clear that the formbook can almost be shredded at this stage of the season.

The Rooney vs Van Persie battle rumbles on against a backdrop of unpredictable results; it will likely run until Gameweek 38, breaking only for the double fixtures in Gameweek 36.

A ready-made differential with some potential for those chasing a mini-league deficit, we’ve yet to see Rooney capitalise on Van Persie’s recent slips. In his last four starts, Rooney has outscored Van Persie by a total of just four points – Gameweek 28 saw Rooney fetch 13 points to the Arsenal man’s 8 – the biggest swing since the captaincy battle kicked in. Monday night is a great opportunity for a bigger gap to open; for those who transferred their allegiances early to reap the rewards for such a risk.

After Monday’s modest showing against Fulham, another tepid display from Rooney will make things interesting going into next weekend. While Rooney will likely be favoured based on fixtures, it’s hard to imagine that Van Persie’s blip will be extended to four matches. Our confidence may have slipped further after today, but the call to take the armband from the imperious Dutchman is still one that demands nerves of steel.

Those protecting a lead would seem more likely to cling to the comfort that Van Persie brings – those chasing will surely look to Rooney to help them take advantage. It’s a delicious little scenario that keeps the Fantasy game interesting, even if City seem intent on making the Premier League title race a formality.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Regretting benching Siggy, have a bad feeling hes gonna do something. But given my midfield (Dempsey Valencia Moses Bale) it was between him and Moses, and Moses got 8 points with I estimate a further 2 bonus to follow, so hopefully he doesnt outscore the others .

Anyone else having a shocker with the captain picks? 8 games without a goal for my captain now (none since RVP v Blackburn on Feb 4). Dont think they have been bad choices as the teams have scored 21 goals in that period (including two 5-0's). Bad luck i guess but i suspect i am not alone.

I wish this season would end and the next would begin.........

    A) Clean sheets and Goalscorers have been very hard to predict this year

    B) The prices have shot up compared to previous seasons

    C) The FPL site has been an utter fail

    D) Much more rotation from the stronger sides.

Cracking and hilarious article from last week I've only just got round to posting: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/blog/2012/mar/23/arsenal-theo-walcott

The bit about Andy Carroll was my favourite part of the article.

As much as it is mostly for comedy value, it does make a compelling case for getting Walcott in if you haven't already.

Adebayor, Bale & Skrtel vs Gerrard, Vorm and 8 points.

Really need my Spurs contingent to rip it up. Who do you fancy to win and how's yours looking?

      Reina

      Johnson Agger Coloccini Enrique

      Lucas Cabaye

      HBA Gerrard Gutierrez

      Suarez

I considered dropping HBA, Cabaye or Gutierrez for Ba or Cisse but I don't think the balance would be right. Also HBA and Cabaye are class players and Gutierrez is a fantastic workhorse.

To be honest that's a really good team. Hard to exclude Ba based on the season he's had but needs must. Maybe Skrtel over Coloccini for me, but that's a minor quibble. Interesting to see everyone going for Reina as the keeper. I'd do the same

Yeah, I think Reina's up there with the best in the league, deserves to have won more than he has. Amazing that despite that he's only 3rd choice Spanish keeper such is the depth of their quality.

Maybe it's the hair that makes me prefer Coloccini to Skrtel. 🙂

Joe Hart, easily the best keeper in the PL, was sent the wrong way ten straight times in training by Ballotelli.

He is much, much better than you think.

No chance i'd bench Dempsey, no way! I'd sooner bench Walcott or Graham. Even hopeless Wolves carved out plenty of chances against Bolton. Added to that, if Pog's ankle injury rules him out Dempsey will probably play up front.

Morning chaps, looking to get a bench of Bogdan, Skrtel, Bale & Suarez for GW34 so i'll have 11 available. That means I only need to get in Bale (which I plan to do next week via Dempsey -> Bale) before GW34. So, best transfer to make this week? I have 2 free so I need to use 1 or i'll lose it - any ideas? Best I can come up with is either Surman -> Mclean or Shotton -> Turner/Rangel. Either way they'd probably be on the bench this week....

    Migs
    Skrtel, JEvans, Caulker
    Dempsey, Walcott, Valencia, Siggy
    RVP, Rooney, Suarez

    Bogdan, Surman, Kompany, Shotton
    Bank 1.8m, 2 freebies.

Surman to Sess funded by Skrtel to Kaboul?

Makes you not loose a DGW player in 36 and also Spurs DGW fixts are better IMO. Note kaboul has played 90mins everygame when available.

Not an easy decisio given Dempseys away form but Bolton could be a good haul away or not. Walcott at home to Man city will surely not be scoring for fun?

I can't decide between Walcott, Demps and Graham for the bench myself. Same midfield as you.

Will be playing Mignolet (benching Friedel) and BAE to spread risk.

Id fancy Graham in that game so would maybe look at Walcott/Dempsey like me. Ive had Dempsey since 2 weeks before his hatrick against Newcastle and bench him each time he is away from home BUT I feel this is a week he could possibly do something away from home. Bolton's defense is awful and Dempsey has looked lively the last few weeks. Walcott could do well as he is in form, but with this being so important for City I think they will make it a very tight game defensively and I dont see many goals for either team.

Cahill based on fixtures but the fact he is highely unlikey to play both games rules him out. I actually fancy Shawcross/Huth as both hace a goal threat and two good home fixtures, both of their opponents are in form BUT Everton don't score loads (especially away from home) and Stoke is the sort of fixture that Arsenal will not like and could likely keep them at bay.

If he doesn't what, do nothing?

Not gonna happen. So lucky to get anything from today.

First assist was a failed shot. a FAILED shot. Even that only came about because he had just punted the villa player who was marking him directly in the head.

His goal should be saved by any competent keeper. Really awful shot actually.

The other assists were some admittedly decent flick off corners, but we all know how poor Villa are from set pieces.

        Nothing to see here.
