Our weekly regular is rolled out once again, as we assess the “strength of schedule” over the next four to six Gameweeks. United’s fixtures remain strong, with Liverpool’s outlook also improving to coincide with their recent form. On the opposite side of the coin, Chelsea, City and Tottenham look to face a test of their credentials as they approach the festive period…

The Strong

Liverpool

Unbeaten in their last six and with Luis Suarez continue to plunder the goals and assists, Brendan Rodgers’ side are finally starting to click. A defence which has conceded just once in their previous three at Anfield looks promising as Wigan, Southampton and Villa all pay visit in the next six; Andre Wisdom has now started the last six and, at 4.5 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), could be a strong cut-price defensive contender if he continues in the first XI. It does appear that a shift back to 4-4-2 will likely see him drop to the bench, however.

Up top, Suarez has already received significant investment after taking his goal haul to eight for the season at the weekend and will be hoping to address an imbalance which has seen him return 25 points in six home fixtures compared to 44 in five road trips. Liverpool also have visits to Swansea, Spurs and West Ham on their agenda; only the Upton Park trip looks a potential stumbling block for finding the net with both the Spurs and Swansea defences failing to convince. Steven Gerrard remains a differential with under 5% ownership and has ticked over so far, with 48 FPL points already under his belt, while Raheem Sterling’s 5.1 price tag will surely convince more to take a punt, particularly having seen Rodgers shift the 17-year-old up alongside Suarez at Stamford Bridge.

Man United

The fixture list remains kind to the league leaders and with two or more goals scored in every fixture from Gameweek 2 onwards, United’s attack shows little sign in letting up. Robin Van Persie may have been overshadowed by the exploits of Javier Hernandez last weekend but the Dutchman maintained his run of producing attacking returns in all nine of his starts for the Red Devils with an assist for the Mexican’s Villa Park winner.

A Gameweek 16 trip to City is tricky but United’s remaining fixtures over the next six (nor, QPR, WHM, rdg, SUN) offer Van Persie further chance to continue a source of Fantasy consistency which has left all others trailing in his wake: he looks an armband favourite for many weeks to come. Wayne Rooney will be hoping to shake off the ankle injury which forced him off at Villa, though with a single assist in his last three, his threat has somewhat tailed off by comparison. Hernandez’s eye for goal, highlighted by his exploits at the weekend, has helped him accrue 20 FPL points in just 71 minutes over the past three Gameweeks, while four assists in the last six highlight the potential of Antonio Valencia. At the back, two clean sheets in 11 means attacking potential is a must when investing – Rafael has two goals and a pair of assists and remains the most likely target.

Arsenal

Olivier Giroud chose the perfect time to notch for the first time at the Emirates as Arsenal gear up for the visit of Spurs this Saturday. With home clashes against Swansea and West Brom supplemented by trips to Villa and Reading, Arsene Wenger’s side have, arguably, just one troublesome test to engineer on the next six – a Gameweek 14 trip to Everton. Giroud has now produced double figures in two of his last five starts and the former Montpellier man could be set for significant investment, with the schedule looking tasty all the way to Gameweek 21 – at 8.4 in FPL, he’s sure to pick up from a current ownership level of 1.3%.

Theo Walcott’s first start since Gameweek 1 harvested eight FPL points at the weekend and if he can overcome a glute injury sustained in the 3-3 draw with Fulham, the winger looks to offer a viable, and cheaper, alternative to Santi Cazorla within the Gunners’ midfield. With one clean sheet in their last eight, investment in the Arsenal backline looks risky – Bacary Sagna looks nailed-on at right-back since returning from injury and offers a less costly alternative to Thomas Vermaelen amongst Wenger’s defensive regulars.

Newcastle

While the home defeat by West Ham will have dented their confidence, the Magpies have three strong looking fixtures in the next four (SWA, sot, sto, WIG) which afford them a chance to bounce back. The return of Cheick Tiote after a three-game suspension could prove pivotal – his ball-winning presence in front of the back-four has been sorely missed, with Alan Pardew’s side registering just a single clean sheet all season.

Yohan Cabaye offers an in-form and cheaper option in midfield than Hatem Ben Arfa – the former, at 6.8 in FPL, has scored twice in his last four, while his 7.9 priced compatriot has mustered a mere two assists over the last eight Gameweeks. Up front, Demba Ba has been picked up by almost 10,000 FPL already this week, despite just one goal in his last five – with 63 points to Papiss Cisse’s measly 21, he’s Pardew’s one real hope of goals as Newcastle seek to return to winning ways.

Also Consider

Southampton – their form is unlikely to tempt investment but this could be a make or break spell as the Saints face up to three fixtures which could, potentially, decide whether Nigel Adkins stays in his job. Up next is a trip to basement-dwellers QPR and with back-to-back home games against Newcastle and Norwich to follow, the contributions of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Gaston Ramirez may never be more crucial for their under-fire manager.

Sunderland – again, the Black Cats have done little to tempt our interest of late but with four home matches (including a double Gameweek) in their next five, Martin O’Neill’s side are afforded the chance to get their season back on track. With just three goals conceded in four at the Stadium of Light, Simon Mignolet and Carlos Cuellar will surely see new investment at the back. Adam Johnson opened his account at Goodison last weekend and may find his way onto Fantasy radars, while Steven Fletcher remains the key attacking asset, although the ankle injury that saw him withdraw from Scotland’s squad this week could be a concern.

The Weak

Chelsea

Without a win in their last three, Roberto Di Matteo’s side face a tricky run over the next few fixtures. The Blues travel to West Brom, West Ham and Sunderland – all three have been particularly strong at the back this term, with four, five and three goals conceded in their respective home games so far. Chelsea also play host to City and face a home derby with flourishing Fulham; again, neither looks straightforward. With a blank Gameweek 17 also on the cards, the Londoners’ title credentials could be fully tested before they fly off on World Club Championship duties.

West Ham

The fixtures remain a worry for Sam Allardyce, though with his side’s form currently making a mockery of their strength of schedule, the Hammers boss won’t be too fazed by what’s to follow. Back-to-back clean sheets and four points accrued against City and Newcastle will have the Hammers in buoyant mood ahead of trips to Spurs, United and West Brom in the next six, while home clashes against Stoke, Chelsea and Liverpool sum up the task in front of the sixth placed club. Jussi Jaaskelainen continues to rack up the save points and clean sheets; he is the number one FPL keeper with 51 points so far, while Kevin Nolan’s goal threat remains a constant – he has now climbed to fourth in FPL, with his winner at St James’ Park taking his tally to 63 points.

Man City

The return of David Silva steered the champions into second spot after a comeback win over Spurs but, aside from a potentially profitable home clash with Villa this weekend and Gameweek 14 trip to Wigan, their schedule is far from enticing. City have clashes with three of the top four on the horizon, with a visit to the Bridge preceding back-to-back visits of Everton and United. A backline that has conceded just two goals in their last five looks set to be sorely tested, then, before Roberto Mancini’s side make their way to Newcastle in Gameweek 17. Carlos Tevez’s owners will be hoping he can address the goalscoring woes that have seen him find the net just once since Gameweek 3, while Silva’s scheming will be more crucial than ever over the next month.

Also Be Wary Of

Tottenham – with three defeats in their last four since losing Moussa Dembele to injury, Andre Villas-Boas’ outfit have been far from impressive. Next up is a north London derby at the Emirates but with trips to Fulham and Everton also in their next five, in addition to home clashes against in-form West Ham and Liverpool, the schedule could be a lot kinder for Spurs. With one assist at home all season, Gareth Bale needs to step up at the Lane, while a backline that has produced a single clean sheet will afford their upcoming opponents plenty of confidence.

Swansea – Michael Laudrup’s side seem to have stuttered once again, grabbing just two goals in their last three outings. Having found the net just once in their last four road trips, Swansea’s next three away fixtures (new, arse, tot) are all likely to pose problems, while home clashes against Liverpool, West Brom and Norwich look testing, with the Canaries continuing to impress at the back under Chris Hughton.

Thanks to all for the advice on my team at the top of the page.

    Quick question

Who to play? Morrison (CHEL) or Pienaar (Reading)

Always thought Pienaar, not so sure now.

Pienaar has kinda went off the boil in recent weeks, wasn't involved nearly enough against Sunderland for my liking...

I would actually stick Morrison in if I were you... If they nick a goal or two, he should be involved...

With Kevin Mirales out.....i reckon most of the EVE attack should come from the Left side once again. could prove prosperous for Pienaar and Baines this week.

It's been that kinda season innit. Team value's been inconsequential.

Apart from RVP & Baines (to some extent), there's no real fear in not owning any of the other pricier options.

So guys anyone care to help me with my WC team.

I hit the button last night (Missed out on 0.2 of afromans rises) as there was just too many players on my shopping list and whilst my team has been doing ok (hovering around 100k) I really want to kick on and start improviong my ranking if I want to improve on 1984th from last year.

    So here she is

    Bego Fed
    Baines Hughes Wilko Cuellar McCart
    Mata Bale Felliani Sterling Maloney
    RVP Suarez Berba

I dont have the team value of some ppl on here so I can't have the MF and ATT I want and another decent DFer to go with Baines. But I do have regular starters for Fulham, Stoke, West Ham & Sunderland which I think is pretty good. It's been a tough choice between Bale and Silva too.

Any suggestions and comment warmly recieved

If I were WC-ing, I'd consider differentiating a tad and gamble on a few options such as
      - Silva over Bale
      - More Reading/Sunderland players
      - Aguero/Giroud instead of Suarez/RVP
      - Downgrade Baines to Sagna

      iLike the Stoke double

Silva over Bale is the most tempting. I really believe Suarez will continue to produce the goods. He is literally ALL Pool have. Funnily enough I sold him for Ba after owning him for only two (fairly fruitless) weeks and really regretted it. Think he is a must now personally.

Oh and I've not had much luck with Reading players (Fed & Guth from the start)

Let's help each other... so far I've got...

      Begovic Tremmel
      Baines Wisdom Cameron Cuellar Gorkss
      Silva Mata Fellaini Nolan Sterling
      RVP Suarez Berbatov

Comparing the two, I see you've kept Bale, but I have decided to take a chance on Silva since I prefer the Citeh attack over Spurs for the foreseeable future... I think I would prefer Silva's constant stream of assists over Bale's 2,2,2,13,2... it could go either way though, but I think Silva will step on from here...

Sterling and Maloney rotate perfectly, but I've gone for Nolan... I like the Fulham/Stoke rotation, but have you looked at Wisdom rotating with Wilko? I reckon they'll keep more cleanies...

I too thought about McCartney or O'Brien, but have gone for Gorkss just because of the DGW...

We both lack Arsenal, which I'm sure is a concern for both of us, but I will likely bring in Giroud if/when Suarez gets suspended...

Haha I think yours looks a bit better than mine actually Zep. You've clearly had more time to plan it......I only hit WC late last night.

I like the Wisdom punt, but from what I've seen he's not a great player, and have heard similar concerns from Pool fans on forums. Think it could be a matter of time before he gets dropped.....we'll see though.

I considered Tremmel too but am worried about Vorms return and then being stuck with him.

Nolan is better than Maloney full stop.

Definitely given me some things to think about. Thanks Zep

yeah. but i can most likely space c out over two weeks. as in bale + michu > walcott + afro this week for a 4pter and then pienaar to nolan next week

ok thanks. do you think he's worth it? can't make up my mind because he's been playing well and is very dangerous and scoring well fantasy wise and has two nice fixtures but then after that has a pretty tough run...

for the time being at least. don't have a way to get rid at the moment but may find one later on. could possibly downgrade one of my defenders at some point as my backline is baines, rafa, sagna, saylor, demel. will have to see though. hes not a priority atm, especially as i'm rotating him, pienaar, michu, maloney, saylor and demel for 3 spots most weeks, unless one of baines/rafa/sagna has a really tough fixture

As for baines....I am seriously thinking of dumping him for Sagna 3 weeks time. I have always had doubts over spending over 7.0 for a defender. I know Baines is the exception but it is just a feeling.

yeah i guess you have a point... i've got both at the moment... and rafa. so i guess if i shipped baines id just do a major downgrade and use the funds elsewhere.... but its just comforting to me knowing that he has a good chance to score at both ends of the pitch. and i have a feeling (or maybe its just a hope) that he'll start getting better returns soon (probably coinciding with everyone shipping him haha)

I had walcott in the final third of last year and it was glorious, just got a little lucky because there are of course the games when he gets completely neutralized on the right touchline. But as you know that's not where he wants to play and hopefully HD will Brom even more central this year. He's deadly as an inside right.

I basically have spent the last month holding off Fellaini, Nolan and michu thinking they would revert to 2 pointers and being proved wrong. In hindsight an 8 point hit to get all three in would totally have paid off almost every week. Oh well, with the cards I should move on for now.

The deal breaker for me is whether Valencia gets the odd goal because 2 assists per 3 games is a decent rate but borderline and not going to produce many BPs. He is such a good winger but starts wide as a result and consequently his goals need to be pretty spectacular efforts after cutting in.

Silva suffers from the same lack of goals despite playing a lot more central because again his main job is to create

    B: pienaar + nasri >> fellaini + sterling
    C: nasri + michu >>> silva + sterling
    D: nasri + michu >> mata + sterling

I've given the Cazorla/Silva move a lot of thought and compared stats. I'm not seeing much in it and they're both exceptionally good players. That much is for sure. They're both going to assist lots of goals this year and I'm thinking maybe I might gamble on there not being a huge amount between the two of them and therefore trying out Silva as a differential. Cazorla's stock is falling and will still be available as a straight swap later on down the line.

My immediate concern however is the upcoming fixture. I would really like to give Cazorla a go in that derby which will inevitably be played at a high tempo and there's bound to be goals. There's every chance that Cazorla could have a big game. Wilshire is back so that may change the dynamic from the last game and if Walcott looks to be out it might benefit Cazorla.

On Silva's side, I'm concerned whether he will in fact play 90 minutes/start the Villa game. They have Real Madrid next week so Mancini may choose to rest key players. He's rested Silva before Champions league games before and I noticed he did so around this point last season. The difference though is that Silva lacks match practice/sharpness and might benefit from another full game so it might be less likely for Mancini to rest him.

Finally, Silva isn't on international duty whereas Cazorla is so that might see Silva have a better chance of starting the Villa game while Cazorla might be fatigued.

    What say you kind folk?

That's the problem I have with Santi. He plays a killer pass and then that's it. Stops running. Annoying that Walcott is now also on corners. With Walcott you have that possibility he might get into the box and fire one of those shots across goal that somehow ends in the back of the net. Like Valencia.

Value-wise I will lose .1m from Caz's fall which would leave it very tight if Silva potentially rises soon (I've only got 0.1m right now in the bank)

If I bought Silva now it would be 9.3 to 9.3...

if Caz drops it's 9.2 + 0.1m ===> Silva but left with 0.0m in the bank.

All brilliant points mate. I think Mancini knows that the Champions League is a goner, and if he was a smart man he be aiming for fourth...yes...even as a Blue...i say play the kids and let's just go out without a fight. The Europa league again is not needed, embarassing, and a waste of our time and team. I thinkn Silva does start this weekend, but depending how the match goes reckon he'll be yanked between 55 - 70 minutes. That is still plenty of time to bag a goal and an assist in a huge win for us. I think we will run riot this weekend. 🙂

(Silva is already sitting pretty in my midfield......;).......scared though since I lost Tevez and think he might make me regret it.

I do thing there will be goals against Villa...I think City will be able to unlock the Villa defence easier because they'll play more directly. If Aguero plays he may run riot because he's similar to Chicharito in some ways and he destroyed them. Villa look well capable of counter attacking this year so the CS may not come easy for City. It's always good when the big teams concede though as that means they need to score more to win 😀

I strongly believe Balotelli will start by the way...think you saw that though.

This derby affair is historically a high scoring one...

      4-4, 3-0, 2-3, 5-2.... in the last four years...

However, a game against your biggest rivals doesn't change the fact that Cazorla has one assist in 5 home games that have garnered 11 goals...

There's no doubt he will eventually score at home, but the stats suggest you won't be left regretting the decision any time soon...

Caz (and Silva) simply aren't explosive. And Caz seems considerably lower scoring than Silva on average. I maintain what I said three weeks ago, he's almost an FPL Ramsey. I'd say go Silva, but don't expect the payoff to be necessarily this week. Might break even or even slightly lose.

Personally I am waiting on walcott to be cleared to play, now he is a player who can be a spectacular profit in the first week.

Well I agree on Walcott...but calling Cazorla Ramsey-esque is a bit over the top. I don't remember Ramsey impacting games the way Cazorla does/has. His stats are literally insanely good all round. There are few players quite like him in the world...at least that I know of.

In FPL I would agree he may not be super explosive but he still has potential and I wouldn't write him off just yet. I also think if he had less responsibilities in the middle of the park he could destroy defences regularly.

Caz is surprising owners because he doesn't do what they assume he will do, ie. assist the three forwards. He rarely has the space to squeeze magic through balls to the cf, the giroud pass was the exception not the rule and even that wasn't an assist. He does tippy tappy stuff outside the box and distributes it to wide forwards and fullbacks eventually, but rarely plays the final ball before a goal. While obviously far more skilled than Ramsey, that is what Ramsey was trying to do last year.

Fair enough. You can observe it as an Arsenal fan and say he's playing the Ramsey role this year. It's just Cazorla is world class at what he does and when he does do some attacking he's really quite effective at it...which is a shame. But to be honest I'm under no illusions about what kind of game Cazorla plays. I've watched most Arsenal games this year and watched him closely. And in FPL terms I'm not completely enamoured by his positioning etc.

But the fact remains that he still has often offered something special in games and been excellent even when Arsenal in general have played poor.

Giroud's terrible start to the season also denied Cazorla a good few assists. You don't see Arteta/Gervinho/Podolski playing the balls Cazorla plays. It's actually a shame that Caz does so much work in other areas as if he focused on attacking he'd probably be way better than anyone else up there.

Anyway, I get your point. This site has gone bananas for Cazorla and it's probably over the top...but he has delivered points when other Arsenal players haven't and he is a player you can get easily excited about.

Yeah no one doubts Caz's class. Best case scenario, if the arsenal attack explodes there will be more space for everyone and he could manage a respectable average, perhaps 6 ppg. But he'll never dominate our attacking points.

YEah, but most owners(me included) see him as a 7m midf when I bought him. He had the most scoring chances created from all players in FPL this season not to long ago. Not to sure what the members stats say now. With Felli & Jelavic in the box Baines is bound to get some mega points some weeks. The CS's that are lacking will come over a season and I still think he will score 150-160 pts over the season. Will Michu?

There is no story. He is filling in a gaping gap due to suspension and injury. Once Terry is fit, Cole is back and so on, Azpi will be back on the bench and chelseas back line will be Ivanovic Terry Luiz Cole

Cole has no impact on the situation though, Terry could potentially be out for a long time, If this were to happen, it does open the door for him. Cahill and Luiz may not prove to be Matteos first choice centre backs.

Just throwing this out to everyone since I was discussing it above...

I basically have spent the last month or two holding off Fellaini, Nolan and michu thinking they would revert to 2 pointers and being proved wrong. In hindsight an 8 point hit to get all three in would totally have paid off almost every week. Oh well, with the suspension looming for two of them I should move on for now... right? 😆

But the thing is, I bought him last week knowing that waiting would be futile. I took the risk of that crashing disappointment in the hope that he would deliver a similar points score immediately as he looked ON FIRE...I mean watching that Fulham game was like watching some world class striker taking a defence for a ride. I knew I had to ditch Pienaar when he was looking that explosive.

So basically either you get him or he'll be 8.0m and the most owned player in the game by next week potentially. And he might score a hat trick against Reading for all we know!

I was watching your clash last week and cheering you on, it was pretty close. My team is remarkably similar to his. It could well come down to who is brave enough not to captain RVP. Or dodgy bonus points. Whatever it is, I would rather be thrashed than lose by a few points.

WBA, QPR, nor, REA/CHE is a pretty tasty run of fixtures.

Yeah, Fletcher is a bit of a fishy move, I agree. Perhaps better to double on the SUN defence and get Bardsley or Migs in instead? Not sure about Larsson - he doesn't rotate well with Michu (unlike Taarabt who I have) so I think that's a no go zone for me.

Yeah, at the moment I have a rotation head ache with

          Felli/Michu/Bale/Santi/Nolan
          Ba/Berba/Rvp

A couple of others like Granville and TM have similar issues. So I'm in good company. Problem is you could end up with Nolan(11) first sub like Granville did this past gw. But then again I had Kaca(9) on my bench. Same difference I suppose.

Depending on Michu/Suarez/Felli YC susp i will make a call.

I'd go Cuellar - he has decent fixtures and a DGW looming, Bego gives you STO coverage, and Wisdom may yet get dropped when they return to 4-4-2

hey guys, what do ye all reckon for GW 12?

    Schwarzer

    Saylor Baines Nelsen

    Mata Fellaini Barfa Morrison

    Berba RVP (c) Jalavic

    Bego, McAuley, Demel, Michu

    0.1m in bank, 1FT..

was thinking of saving it this week and then get Rafael and cheapie in MF for McAuley and Michu in GW13, then Cuellar in for Baines in GW 14 and Roo or Suarez in foe Jelavic as well
