On a day which struggled for goals and headline makers, City’s stuttered victory against a confident Hull saw the Fantasy landscape shift and generate a series of selection headaches. Elsewhere, two largely ignored midfield assets earned precious points to boost their stock.

The Game Changer

Alvaro Negredo second goal in as many games has announced his arrival in the Premier League and accelerated doubts surrounding Edin Dzeko’s status. Introduced from the bench at half-time to replace the Bosnian, Negredo latched onto a fine delivery from Pablo Zabaleta to head City into a lead which they scarcely deserved.

With a 25-goal tally in La Liga last term, Negredo’s pedigree a proven marksman was unlikely to be kept shackled for long. He’s taken opportunities in his last two outings as a substitute and will now surely push for a start for the Gameweek 4 trip to the Britannia. While that’s good news for Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking options, for Dzeko owners, today’s events were far from welcome.

The Underused

Robert Snodgrass monopolised our attention in the Norwich midfield over the pre-season, resulting in new signing, Nathan Redmond, being largely overlooked. The former Birmingham winger has, however, shone far brighter than his team-mate thus far, adding an end product to several sparkling performances to seal the points against Southampton.

Priced at just 5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Redmond has earned just over 1% ownership to this point. That’s surely set to change over the international break with Snodgrass owners doubtless considering the trade that would free up a precious 1.5 in funds. With Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs in the next five, however, both Redmond and Snodgrass come with a hefty caveat attached.

While Redmond was picked out in this week’s ScoutCast by Granville’s Fantasy Island Risk pick, Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa was also singled out and was our headline act in the Differentials. Like Redmond, he duly delivered. A constant source of creativity and threat throughout, Ben Arfa’s superb strike settled the clash with Fulham at St James’ Park. Unlike Redmond, the Frenchman has a string of favourable fixtures which lend themselves to further investment and a marked increase in his modest 4.5% FPL ownership.

The Selection Poser

As mentioned, Negredo’s emergence could well sound the death knell for Edin Dzeko’s security of start. The Bosnian is currently owned by over 19% of FPL managers following his impressive opening to the campaign and kind 7.5 valuation. Those managers will now be highly concerned going into the break with Negredo surely in line to get the nod for the trip to Stoke.

Gael Clichy owners also have plenty to ponder. Whilst Zabaleta benefited from clean sheet and assist returns, the former Gunner was consigned to the bench with Aleks Kolarov given the nod on the left of the City defence. Presumably, Clichy paid the price for the defeat to Cardiff. Unless Kolarov’s start was part of a regular plan in home matches against teams likely to “park the bus”, Clichy may be another name scrapping to earn a start at the Britannia as Pellegrini puts his stamp on the City squad.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If no defenders are involved go for it, or in this years case, it doesnt matter as defenders get like10000000000000000000 points anyway.

I like Soldado/Sturridge over Bent/RVP but I dunno if I'd spend all the cash on Baines. He's just so expensive, I'd rather have 2 defenders from the 5.5-6.5 range.

I see your point. i've just wildcarded, and would actually be taking coleman out of my team (and losing a little value too). i know it's clearly not the logical thing to do, but baines has always done well for me in the past and i have a bit of a soft spot for him haha.

With all do respect, that's insane.

They are both defenders, they are both Everton, and they both carry attacking threat.

Currently Baines is 7.5 and Coleman is 5.3. You're telling me you're going to spend 2.2 MORE on a defender in the same team that is scoring less points?

Don't be fooled. Coleman is not Baines, not even close. Last season Baines picked up an offensive point every 67 minutes (not including bonus) compared to every 144 minutes for Coleman. Then there is the BPS system, both have averaged 8 BPS this season so far despite Coleman having scored and an assisted without a Baines attacking return. Consequently Baines has 5 baps to Coleman's 4.

Baines will outscore Coleman there is no doubt about that, whether it is enough justify the price difference is the big question.

Tentatively planned on using WC this week, but so far nothing to really compel me. Very few that will skyrocket in price, so the value strategy seems lacking. RVP's upcoming fixtures look good, but still not sold on bringing him in. I could trade out my expensive mids and get 5 solid defenders but then the clean-sheets can't continue at this pace, can they? Probably just use my free transfer and maybe take a hit, waiting for things to become more clear.

I knew it was a big risk but didn't have much options. Now i'm getting RVP for 2 reasons: 1.The captain choice is paramount and RVP solves so many problems in that department. 2. Midfielders are not delivering so I rather spent that money on RVP and keep only a couple of top mids.

It's always a bonus... a team would usually get 3-6 penalties a year of which 90% will be converted so its 25ish extra points

    Gents,

Looking for double risers, what do you think of this bunch?

    Zabaleta
    Redmond (for funds really)
    Barkley
    Coleman
    Mignolet

Already have these players on a .1 gain:
    Giroud
    Sturridge
    Agüero
    Nolan

    MORE REPLIES PLEASE

No idea what to do with this mob? Wildcard?

    Boruc 4mill
    Collins Dawson Lescott (Whittaker Baker)
    Silva Walcott Mirallas Oscar (Colback)
    Aguero Soldado Sturridge

Or consider some of these transfers?

    1) Aguero and Mirallas to RVP and 4.5 mill mid -4pts
    2) Aguero to Welbeck
    3) Aguero to Rooney

    Any other suggestions?

Right, so providing I don't use my WC is Toure, Mirallas & Dzeko ➡ Vidic, Ward-Prowse & Benteke worth a -4?

    Mignolet, Rudd.
    Shaw, B.Turner, Ward, ,Toure, M.Turner.
    Walcott, Hazard, Mirallas, Snodgrass, Williams
    Van Persie, Soldado, Dzeko.

Id wildcard. I dont mind taking a hit for a double gameweek. I see it as either I take a hit now to get a team I like and which will score well, or I take a hit later for a double.

Yes and no... my theory has always been to see how the teams will settle, who are the bargains and then wildcard early to capitalise on the early gems... get out in front. Looking at all those changes (of it were me) I'd wildcard and get happy now.

Ful season tix holder here. Don't get why Bent would be on the bench? He is a risk when we play tough away games, or top 6 at home. But he is nailed on for the good home fixtures coming. Ruiz playing on the wing today makes me even more comfortable that Benty will be the second name on the WBA teamsheet behind Berba
