On a day which struggled for goals and headline makers, City’s stuttered victory against a confident Hull saw the Fantasy landscape shift and generate a series of selection headaches. Elsewhere, two largely ignored midfield assets earned precious points to boost their stock.

The Game Changer

Alvaro Negredo second goal in as many games has announced his arrival in the Premier League and accelerated doubts surrounding Edin Dzeko’s status. Introduced from the bench at half-time to replace the Bosnian, Negredo latched onto a fine delivery from Pablo Zabaleta to head City into a lead which they scarcely deserved.

With a 25-goal tally in La Liga last term, Negredo’s pedigree a proven marksman was unlikely to be kept shackled for long. He’s taken opportunities in his last two outings as a substitute and will now surely push for a start for the Gameweek 4 trip to the Britannia. While that’s good news for Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking options, for Dzeko owners, today’s events were far from welcome.

The Underused

Robert Snodgrass monopolised our attention in the Norwich midfield over the pre-season, resulting in new signing, Nathan Redmond, being largely overlooked. The former Birmingham winger has, however, shone far brighter than his team-mate thus far, adding an end product to several sparkling performances to seal the points against Southampton.

Priced at just 5.0 in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, Redmond has earned just over 1% ownership to this point. That’s surely set to change over the international break with Snodgrass owners doubtless considering the trade that would free up a precious 1.5 in funds. With Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs in the next five, however, both Redmond and Snodgrass come with a hefty caveat attached.

While Redmond was picked out in this week’s ScoutCast by Granville’s Fantasy Island Risk pick, Newcastle’s Hatem Ben Arfa was also singled out and was our headline act in the Differentials. Like Redmond, he duly delivered. A constant source of creativity and threat throughout, Ben Arfa’s superb strike settled the clash with Fulham at St James’ Park. Unlike Redmond, the Frenchman has a string of favourable fixtures which lend themselves to further investment and a marked increase in his modest 4.5% FPL ownership.

The Selection Poser

As mentioned, Negredo’s emergence could well sound the death knell for Edin Dzeko’s security of start. The Bosnian is currently owned by over 19% of FPL managers following his impressive opening to the campaign and kind 7.5 valuation. Those managers will now be highly concerned going into the break with Negredo surely in line to get the nod for the trip to Stoke.

Gael Clichy owners also have plenty to ponder. Whilst Zabaleta benefited from clean sheet and assist returns, the former Gunner was consigned to the bench with Aleks Kolarov given the nod on the left of the City defence. Presumably, Clichy paid the price for the defeat to Cardiff. Unless Kolarov’s start was part of a regular plan in home matches against teams likely to “park the bus”, Clichy may be another name scrapping to earn a start at the Britannia as Pellegrini puts his stamp on the City squad.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I'm tempted to WC or take a -8 hit....

    Migs (Marshall)

    Terry - Zaba - Coleman (Ramage,Brayford)

Walcott - Silva - Coutinho - Mirallas (Kim)

    Dzeko - Soldado - Lambert

    For -4, I could do ...
    A) Dzeko>Benteke & Mirallas>Brady for -4

    B) Ramage & Brayford>Burner/Ward/Chester/Gabbidon/Chambers

    C) Dzeko>Rooney & Mirallas>Ward-Prowse

Or can you see any better alternatives? (I've got a migraine).

      Don't WC. Don't do -8.

See what happen to Coutinho today. If he does not good today then do -4

Coutinho -> Brady and Dzeko -> Rooney or Aguero or Negredo.

If Coutinho does good today then keep him and do Dzeko -> Welbeck. No need hit.

      Problem solved.

Which moves do you prefer here?

    A - Dzeko > Bony/Lambert or other 8.4m striker
    B - Dzeko & Coutinho > Sturridge & Lampard (-4)
    C - Dzeko, Silva & Coutinho > RVP, Lampard & JWP (-8)

Personally, I have been favouring B for a few weeks now, although Suarez back soon might change the Sturridge dynamic, and that is a concern...

Also, if I took option B, I would most likely get RVP for GW6 without the hits...

Most people had a ManC captain on Silva or Aguero so the balls in your park now. Also the RvP owners might get some revenge from last week. Just looked a a few of the very top teams and they have 3 Liv defenders so i'd like ManU to wipe out their over confidence.

Midfield big hitters not coming off so far - if michu does I can see a lot of transfers in.

lampard and hazard are the only 2 attacking players that look nailed on, and ivanovic in defense looks good. lampard the better value given his lower price and still on penalties i'd presume.

          + FK's and corners.

Anyone delivering corners to Terry, Ivanovic, Cahill will get their fair share of assists. Look at Mata last season.

It could be genius. Seems great value but I'd still consider him a punt at this stage. Although if he continues to start even when CL and cup games get in the way then he will become a brilliant option.

Assuming all goes to plan what do you guys think of the following transfers for an 8pt hit?

    Dzeko -> RVP (free)
JRod -> Bent (hit) JRod no longer starting. Bent has good fixtures
Mirralas -> HBA (hit) Already have Barkley. HBA has fixtures and form
    -8pts

Barkley has good fixtures when Bent has tough away games so he will start occasionally.

I have about 0.3 spare so can afford to wait a bit over the international break before doing those transfers.

Just do Dzeko to RVP for free... πŸ˜‰

But seriously, I do like the Bent punt, nothing better than watching him scoring tap-ins if he's in your team... HBA speaks for himself...

HBA(avl), Bent(WBA) or Barkley(CHE), Mirralas(CHE). I fancy myself paying off those 8pts in the very first week.

I'll most likely give Mirallas one last chance against Chelsea, if he doesn't deliver that could be it for him...

Barkley looks good for most games now, not bad for 5m, a steady stream of 2-3pts from the bench when you need him, and the odd goal...

Not this week- in fact he has really good fixtures coming up now after ManC and with rooney missing he's even more likely to play.

This week best 3 strikers looks like RvP Benteke and Soldado with their fixtures. cash doesant mean points.

he did this last season and didnt maintain it, if you happen to have had him from the start then well done but he is playing defensive mid and his run is probably over so dont waste a transfer bringing him in unless you think he will continue to defy the odds.

Morning folks. Whilst many will be WCing over the international break can cultured FF managers assure me that the first three weeks have been anomalies therefore not a true reflection of how the scores will end up at the end of the season. At the moment defenders are the highest scorers with midfielders non existent. Surely this will not remain the case albeit defenders will get closer to mids and strikers than in previous years. Basically will the bulk of the points remain up top or is it really time to change tactics

Get good cheap defenders as its them who are raking in the bonus and expensive strikers - midfield non existent so far but wait and see after tomorrows games. 4-3-3 looks the best option atm but 5-2-3 is on the cards if this continues.

It may well be time to change tactics slightly but I wouldn't start playing 5-2-3 just yet. It looks as though the new bap allocation thingy will favour defenders from teams that win low scoring games while keeping clean sheets.

Tbh...it's hard to forecast midfield prospects for the future. They seem to be unfairly judged under the bp system. 1 point for 3 key passes, only 6bp for a goal(compared to 8 for forwards).....however, there's no excuse for the lack of goals from the midfielders so far. That should indeed improve. But I see defenders profiting further into the season as teams start to consolidate their positions.
