West Ham defy all expectations to emerge from the Lane with all three points, with a defensive rock and cut-price midfielder key to the visitors’ win. For the hosts, Andre Villas-Boas’ decision to drop a big-money Spaniard is set to spark a scramble for the exits over the international break:

The Game Changer

The Hammers recovered from last week’s loss at Hull to register a highly-unexpected win at the Lane. Today’s stunning 3-0 triumph helped Sam Allardyce’s side to their fourth clean sheet in seven and turned the form book on its head as the visitors picked up the points for the first time since the season opener against Cardiff.

Fundamental to the Hammers’ performance was Winston Reid. With James Tomkins once again preferred alongside him in the heart of the back-four, the Kiwi centre-half opened the scoring midway through the second period and helped keep a host of big-money signings at bay in a superb rearguard showing.

With Joey O’Brien making way for Guy Demel in Allardyce’s XI, Reid is now the only defender to have started all seven of the Hammers opening league fixtures. Granted, Razvan Rat seems to have recently established himself as first-choice left-back but Reid – at 5.0 in Fantasy Premier League – offers a guaranteed security of starts into one of the most resilient backlines around. Up to 38 FPL points after picking up maximum bonus, Reid has mainly been under the radar and is owned by less than 3% of FPL managers – he may have City and Swansea up next but today’s display highlights the Hammers are more than capable of picking up the points regardless of the fixture.

The Underused

Today’s outstanding solo effort at the Lane highlighted the raw talent of Ravel Morrison. For so long, it seemed the former United man was destined for the footballing scrapheap after a series of off-field misdemeanours threatened to end his promising career but, under the guidance of Allardyce, it seems the penny has finally dropped.

We’d high expectations at the start of the campaign after the midfielder excelled over the summer but the bandwagon stalled as Allardyce put the brakes on his early-season game time. Having now started each of the last four, though, today’s strike means Morrison has now scored twice in the previous three Gameweeks and with his form flourishing, investors are likely to come running for the 4.4 priced FPL prospect, with an ownership of less than 2% summing up his differential appeal.

With United’s Adnan Januzaj also arriving on our radars this week, it seems Morrison could be set to offer us another cut-price prospect for our five-man midfields, in a season that has already seen Aaron Ramsey, Robbie Brady and Ross Barkley excel in the budget bracket. Indeed, it was telling to see that Stewart Downing’s return to the first XI forced Matt Jarvis on to the bench – a sign of Morrison’s growing importance to the Hammers cause.

The Selection Poser

Without a goal in open play in the league this season, it was still, nonetheless, somewhat surprising to see Roberto Soldado make way for Jermain Defoe in this afternoon’s starting line-up. The latter’s scoring exploits in both domestic and European cup competitions had clearly staked a claim for inclusion but we’d expected Andre Villas-Boas to keep faith with his big-money signing from Valencia as Spurs welcomed West Ham to the Lane.

Instead, Soldado was afforded no more than a 15-minute second-half cameo appearance as Defoe toiled up top in the shock 3-0 loss. It leaves Spurs with a record of just four goals scored in the last five league matches and, in spite of a schedule that sees them square up to Villa, Hull and Newcastle in the next four, today’s team sheet is set to spark significant sales of Soldado right across the Fantasy games.

Still sitting on 14% ownership, an exodus looks on the cards for the 9.5 priced new boy over the international fortnight now, as Fantasy managers look to load up on similarly priced options such as Daniel Sturridge and Olivier Giroud, whilst Romelu Lukaku’s stunning form for Everton should also convince plenty to take the plunge. Defoe’s poor showing may, ironically, have merely strengthened Soldado’s position to start Gameweek 8 but few will be prepared to wait two weeks to test such a theory.

    Hi Chaps,

My name is Eric and this is my first post here and I would appreciate your advice (I have followed advice previously but I must admit most of it goes over my head). I am 72 years old (anyone here older?) I'm retired and I watch every football match possible, this is my first try at FF (after my son bought me an ipad for my birthday last year - I think I must be the only person on the planet with an ipad but I don't have a mobile phone). My team is Eric's Musty Punters and I am currently ranked 35,393 with 399 points (although I expect to fall this week with only 28 points).

I am very confused - my son recommended for me to 'wildcard' to help increase my team value over the 'International break' - as I am going on holiday I agreed and gave him my password to do the needful - all of a sudden, all of my favourite players have disappeared and I have the likes of Janujaz, Amilfatano, Lakuka, and Oscar instead of Robin Van Percy, Ben Arfa, Murray (who has yet to play) etc

I smell a rat - I am currently top of our league - and it's £5 a head and I stand to win £90... Is he trying to scupper my chances?? He has said I can re-select my team after the wildcard with a higher budget - is this BS or does he have my teams interest in heart?

Consequently I have changed my password to stop his meddling - the last straw was him transferring out Robin Van Percy because he was not playing well due to the fact that his game was being affected by 'playing away from home' - obviously he was away to Sunderland but hardly difficult opposition!

So, to cut a long story short the advice I request is as follows:

    1. My transfers reflect 'unlimited' - before I only had the option of 1, or take a 4 point 'hit' (which, pending on your replies, I am tempted to take out on my son). Who should I transfer in during my wildcard?

    2. Can someone explain how I determine my team value / rise? ie I have Ramsay who's in my team at a value of 6 million but to buy him is 6.6!?

    3. In the above example of Ramsay, how can I determine when the next price rise will come?

    4. What players should I transfer in to increase value?

FYI my team is as follows:

Goal keepers: Mignolet (value 5.6), Boruc (value 4.5)

    Defenders: Terry (6.2) Walker (6.0), Fonte (4.7) Vortonghen (7.0), Coleman (5.3)

    Midfielders: Ramsay (6.0), Oscar (8.7), Ozil (10.4) Barkley (5.2), Janujaz (4.6)

    forwards: Suarez (11.2), Lukaku (7.6), Remy (7.5)

The above is not as per the normal format, for which I apologise,

    5. Any other points / recommendations would be appreciated.

    6. Will Robin Van Percy play better when at home and is he worth keeping?

    Thanks in advance,

    Kind regards,

    Eric

Most people here use this for price changes. http://totalfpl.com/pricechanges Pretty accurate predictions there.

Looks good, lots of those players will be going up in price by a fair bit over the international break.

For selling and purchase price look on data view on the transfer page.

      Good luck.

at 4. is it your current team?
This looks very good except for the Forward Line... REMY is good but his fixtures don't support him.
Try and see if U can bring in Aguero instead..
MID: your MID maybe the desired one by many at the moment... you might want to have WALCOTT instead of OZIL when he's fit again...

about RVP, this year almost all the Strikers are producing enough goals that RVP's goals [when he starts flooding with them] should not harm too much...

Has Negredo's goal been analyzed? It seems to me his "shot" (which I believe was an attempted pass to Aguero) was headed outside the posts before Howard's touch?

One of my worst weeks ever ... six 1 pointers and one of them i captained, 25 overall.
And to top it off, Boruc on the bench.

Judging from these highlights, Paulinho was pretty much a striker.

Fraizer Campbell is dropping tonight. He has over 283K owners. Possibly one of the worst bandwagons ever? 😀
