Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15.     I'm hoping one of my injured players is ready to return to form so we can kick start the next phase of Team UAE.

Well its been a long time coming, but the Spanish BFA have been very understanding that we wanted to take our time and work within the confines of the deadline on the 16th. Its tricky to start questioning how to build a beach 7aside team as we have to get the balance within the squad right.

First of we need to decide what formation is right for a Spanish team. Easily we only need to play one keeper at a time, whilst two would be advantageous we have great faith in our boys to keep a shut out. Next up we need 3 "defenders" just in case the opposition play with two up front. One marker per man and a sweeper to cover. This leaves us with 3 men in midfield and attack, so quite clearly we go with a false nine and two other CAM's. A lovely narrow 1-3-3-0 formation.

So in our squad to get the right amount of cover, clearly the way forward is 2 keepers, 3 defenders and 6 attacking mids. Cant wait to play 1-0-6-0 against Tahiti. You dont need a defence to mark Super Oscar Baby.

In nets we have long timer and ever reliable Teddy, with his young understudy thenewname fighting to get a chance to prove his worth. Both are strong players and we can rely on them not to get a laspe of concentration at the crucial moment. No differential will get past them without some coverage limiting the damage.

The three natural defenders we have selected are Trojan XI, MyNameDontMata and yours trully Ginka. Though I must say these days I'm turning into a bit of an Edgar Davids and no position is beyond me. These players have been picked for their no-nonsence attitudes and willingness to mark up a kneejerk with precision. Dont ever think you can turn any of these guys with a "punt". We have more flair than you.

Finally the attacking mids. As you would expect we have not had a problem finding many excellent players to pass the ball in 2m triangles. Big man Bonz is joined in the centre of the park by old guard Toonzie and Corkyote, with new blood AndyWaite, HeartofTheCity and MerseysideRed. Management expect at least 90% possession of the template from these guys, especially when it comes to scoring potential.

So there you go, the full squad is there. Enjoy.
