Gameweek 8 sees the launch of the latest team competition for the Fantasy Football Scout community organised by FFS UEFA. Following the success of last season’s ICC-themed cricket tournament, the group have created FFS Beach Soccer World Cup 2013, with 16 teams, each comprised of 11 players, competing for the crown.

If you’re new to the concept and are wondering just what all the chatter has been about, here’s a link to their site which will help explain matters in a little more detail.

Essentially, the scoring is based around the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game.

Each team started scouting for players (ie, FPL managers) on Sunday, October 6 and the recruitment period will come to a close on Wednesday, October 16, with the roster of team players announced on Thursday, October 17.

The teams are led by a captain and vice-captain and guided by a manager, who decide which seven of their 11 players to field each week – depending on the perceived prospects of their FPL line-ups -and which four to bench. Their overall FPL scores for the Gameweek, with hits taken into account, will form the team’s score that week – by outscoring their opponents, they chalk up a win.

The first match in Gameweek 8 will be no more than a friendly before the main event gets underway the following weekend. This sees the 16 teams compete in four groups of four between Gameweek 9 and 11 – the top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stages, where sides square up in a head-to-head elimination process from Gameweek 12 until the final in Gameweek 15. Team UAE converged on their secluded, private beach resort/training camp last night ahead of their friendly in Syria against Iran this weekend.

The team are being put through their paces today in training by Team UAE manager Sheikh Emir Heels. The team are gelling very well on and of the pitch and are working well together on their tactics.

Tonight the team will rest ahead of their short Helicopter ride over the border to Latakia, Syria tomorrow after brunch for some R+R, followed by some serious partying on Friday night with team Iran and the Syrian people prior to what has been dubbed "The friendly of all friendlies!"

To the Senegal quitter: It seems a bit OTT to cry in your cornflakes regarding team selection for a friendly. I assume you consider your team to be amazing and worthy of a starting berth. Does it matter? If you prove their selection to be incorrect it could result in team management changes and/our a starting berth for you when the team business starts next week.

Conclusion: Relax, it's a game.

  In principle, you're correct. It is only a game.
  
  However, as a member of the FFS community yourself, you know how addictive this game can be. You have to have a certain level of self-belief that your team is the best it can be for every GW.
  
  Combine that with the "friendships" which are developed here and suddenly being left out of a "team" for the friendly is a slap in two faces at once.

    A captain should pick the team irrespective of friendships. If my captain deems me bench worthy I'd understand regardless of my feelings on personal team awesomeness.
    
    Generally we only care about doing well personally. If that contributes to team winning then great, if those points are on the bench that's fine too as I'd be happy I did well, not to mention highlights errors in captaincy.
    
    Toys out of pram people should consider quitting seeing as 4 people per team missing out is the way it's organised. They knew the score yet whinge, no sympathy

      Normally I'd agree with you but, in this case, some back room politics were taking place with certain agreements being made together with some rather broad character assassination.
      
      Put it this way, a certain "management" email was not supposed to end up being sent to the whole team.

Guys in seriousness maybe senegoal issues should be settled amongst themselves, in last few days this place has had some great banter and this issue could go the wrong way and give bad vibes on the thread, which results in people throwing their opinion in ( aware that I am doing just that).
The uefa peeps have put a lot of effort into this and would be shame if started turning ugly.

Wouldn't happen if we all pretended to be dogs 🙂

  FFS does mirror society in many ways.
  
  I've often sat and analysed the comments here then clicked on a posters FPL link to check their team which gives an insight into how they think. It's interesting to cross-check actual people's names against Facebook and Twitter to visualise that person to try and determine what makes them tick and how they interact with their social circles and make their life choices.
  
  Oh, who am I kidding. I just sit around here all day in my underwear and think up new knob gags.

Must say the team spirit at the Solomon Islands camp is at an all time high right now,all team members have been getting along superbly and the mood in the camp is awesome.
