and his scratching, I remember that in every Primo's song
yeah, in the earlier days, scratching was much more common - most of this stuff began with traditional mixing on vinyl - creating loops and break beats. Premo's career began in the mid 80's!
those scratches, along with jazz/soul samples and also vocal snippets (such as the Nas song i think you are referring to) make up his style.
He could be described as the Dr. Dre of the east coast, i suppose - only more prolific.
I'd recommend you look up Guru (the vocal half of GangStarr) who sadly passed away a few years ago (Cancer) and the tragic death of Big L (who was shot 9 times in the face and chest) in his mid twenties.
You will almost certainly be treated to tributes to these two in particular.
