While expectations were modest, tonight’s Selhurst Park encounter brought a close to the Gameweek and provided a showcase for an array of budget and mid-price talent, whilst also serving up a goal of rare quality.

The Game Changer

Having struck a true goal of the season contender, the night has to belong to Pajtim Kasami. His winning header on the opening day at Sunderland saw the Swiss midfielder emerge as an unlikely budget favourite. Having blanked in his last four starts, tonight’s stunning volley will have re-ignited that early season interest.

Priced at 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Kasami could offer a true alternative to the likes of Ravel Morrison and United’s Adnan Januzaj. Having started seven of eight league matches, his place in Martin Jol’s lineup has looked assured – his returns perhaps stifled to this point by Fulham faltering form.

Tonight’s convincing victory might signal a change and bring Kasami to the fore as a viable option as a fifth midfielder to free up funds for the big guns. Long-term, Jol’s plentiful options on the flank will provide stern competition. Tonight’s sublime goal offered his manager a reminder of Kasami’s potential as a special talent, however.

The Underused

Dimitar Berbatov already has fewer owners than Kasami – an extraordinary statistic when you consider that the Bulgarian is a proven goalscorer and creator of pedigree. Like Kasami, Berbatov has suffered from Fulham’s start to the season which has seen his return limited to just a single assist in his seven starts before tonight’s goal.

Having slumped to just 7.1 in price, there’s little doubt that a Berbatov, in his pomp, could prove a significant differential if acquisition can be timed with an upturn in form. With three of the toughest defences up next, that time is perhaps some way off. A run of four home matches in six from Gameweek 12 could be the window to cast an eye in Berbatov’s direction should Martin Jol’s men build on tonight’s result.

The Selection Poser

The capitulation of Ian Holloway’s defence at set-plays in the second period will ring alarm bells for those banking on the budget appeal of the Palace rearguard. Danny Gabbidon and Joel Ward are present in almost 8% of FPL squads but, on tonight’s showing, their potential, even as bench warmers, looks limited compared to fellow promoted assets at Hull City and Cardiff.

Arsenal are next to face Palace – not the fixture to help rebuild the confidence after a drubbing. There’s little doubt that many will have the armband on their Gunners’ assets come Saturday’s deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who should i bring in? I'm thinking one of oscar, hazad or silva.

Adriano isn't first choice when everyone is fit. Jordi Alba is left back, Alves is right back. I know Alba is injured at the moment, not sure about Alves. In their last game, Adriano played left back, Montoya played right back.
Carvajal isn't nailed on. He has to compete with Arbeloa and it's hard to know who will be picked. I believe Marcelo and Coentrao were out last time, and Arbeloa had to fill in at left back.
      Adriano is the better pick.

    Question.

Iv been playing this bloody game for 7 years now and I still dont know this answer because I always sell before a player drops. If a player is worth 5.4 but is only worth 5.2 in my side, do i lose 0.1 when the player drops to 5.3 or do I only start losing when the player drops below 5.2??

It depends how much you bought him for.

If you bought for 5.0 then your resale will drop to 5.1.

If you bought for 5.1 then your resale will remain 5.2

Do not even concern yourself with price fluctuations, this is for train spotters only.

If you have your team set up, then your team will grow in value as the people below you try to buy your players. The rest is bilious.

Want Eriksen out before he falls, can't justify having an 8.2 midfielder doing the square root of nout each week.

I don't think even at £4mil a Newcastle defender would be particularly a steal.

So I know it's probably been done to death but I don't want to trawl through.

I've only just got to watch all the stunners this week and while I know it was an an absolute peach, for me, Giroud's first touch to Wilshere is off. Wilshere does brilliant to correct it at pace and it's class from there on in again. but that kind of takes the shine off it, for me, as a truly great team goal.

Completely agree. Couldn't understand how Carragher could try and argue that Kasami's goal was better.

Kasami's goal was incredible hard to execute though, don't imagine many people being able to get that right, if given 100 chances to try it

That didn't come across right I'd say. Kasami's is much much better.

Not sure who to captain now, Ozil (cpl) or Suarez (WBA).Fulham.

I need to get Giroud in for the weekend at least.

Strike force of Sturridge, Rooney, Lukaku at the minute. Best player to take out?

You must have other gunners though? Look at the fixture list immediately afterwards and listen to Wenger rotation talk. Something going to give soon enough.

Just Ozil. It may just be for this weekend I bring in Giroud, but after watching Palace tonight and missing his points last week, I'm going to take action.

I never like the one week wonder transfer personally, especially this early on in the season.

Good luck with it your set on it

Agree, but is he a certain starter? He played the full 90 at the weekend whereas Mandy got a wee rest towards the end.

Bloody Walcott setback has genuinely setback my future plans to build the greatest team ever. Had to buy Ozil instead and ruin the damn balance!

I've stopped myself doing this tonight. Unlucky.

Undoubted class but your paying for it in other places. A mini RVP if his price hits 11

I think it should pay off since it was Eriksen to Ozil v CPL though 😀

Whadya think of the planned team Tommy?

        Boruc, £4m

        Coleman, Evra, Shaw, Davies, Ivan/4.5

Walcott/Ozil, Silva, Hazard, Pablo H, Ramsey

        Lukaku, Benteke, Studge

Like it. Similar to what I'm trying to implement. Would question Evra's value considering your other defenders.

            Cheers.

Hmm heard that a few times about Evra but I love him since he's so attacking. Also would need to use a FT to ship him. I need about 4 more transfers to build this team so not going to WC for it 🙂

Who would've thought that Kasami would be the one to scrape a decent score for my gameweek 😀

    What a goal too!
