While expectations were modest, tonight’s Selhurst Park encounter brought a close to the Gameweek and provided a showcase for an array of budget and mid-price talent, whilst also serving up a goal of rare quality.

The Game Changer

Having struck a true goal of the season contender, the night has to belong to Pajtim Kasami. His winning header on the opening day at Sunderland saw the Swiss midfielder emerge as an unlikely budget favourite. Having blanked in his last four starts, tonight’s stunning volley will have re-ignited that early season interest.

Priced at 4.5 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Kasami could offer a true alternative to the likes of Ravel Morrison and United’s Adnan Januzaj. Having started seven of eight league matches, his place in Martin Jol’s lineup has looked assured – his returns perhaps stifled to this point by Fulham faltering form.

Tonight’s convincing victory might signal a change and bring Kasami to the fore as a viable option as a fifth midfielder to free up funds for the big guns. Long-term, Jol’s plentiful options on the flank will provide stern competition. Tonight’s sublime goal offered his manager a reminder of Kasami’s potential as a special talent, however.

The Underused

Dimitar Berbatov already has fewer owners than Kasami – an extraordinary statistic when you consider that the Bulgarian is a proven goalscorer and creator of pedigree. Like Kasami, Berbatov has suffered from Fulham’s start to the season which has seen his return limited to just a single assist in his seven starts before tonight’s goal.

Having slumped to just 7.1 in price, there’s little doubt that a Berbatov, in his pomp, could prove a significant differential if acquisition can be timed with an upturn in form. With three of the toughest defences up next, that time is perhaps some way off. A run of four home matches in six from Gameweek 12 could be the window to cast an eye in Berbatov’s direction should Martin Jol’s men build on tonight’s result.

The Selection Poser

The capitulation of Ian Holloway’s defence at set-plays in the second period will ring alarm bells for those banking on the budget appeal of the Palace rearguard. Danny Gabbidon and Joel Ward are present in almost 8% of FPL squads but, on tonight’s showing, their potential, even as bench warmers, looks limited compared to fellow promoted assets at Hull City and Cardiff.

Arsenal are next to face Palace – not the fixture to help rebuild the confidence after a drubbing. There’s little doubt that many will have the armband on their Gunners’ assets come Saturday’s deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

avl TOT LIV mun for Everton in the next 6.. Anyone else gettin the urge to get rid of Coleman? Had him since the start but he's become a bit too expensive to rely on just attackin returns(which have not come for 7 weeks now). Clyne is calling

Yes, I feel the same way, but have more important fish to fry over the next few weeks. Which probably means he will start scoring decently again and I won't have to take him out!

i have liverpool man u tottenham southampton and chelsea gk and defence with coleman.. so my dilemna is i wouldnt know who to trade him out for.. unless i double up somewhere.. might just downgrade him to a bench player down the track but i think there are more important moves to do

The problem is rotating a 5.6 million defender though.. i've got
Terry Toure Reid who i start most weeks and Coleman who gets the bench more often than not. As a source to free up funds he seems the obvious candidate..

Here I go on a Little Rant:

I think there are mistakes happening every week by managers on this website.

As I look at all the comments it seems that we are just a group of knee jerkers.

Ive seen numerous posts about -4 hits for dropping Lukaku, dropping michu, bringing in mirallas etc.

All these trades are very short sighted,

My strategy for this seasons is keeping 2 FT always.

Its simple: for one week, JUST ONE WEEK, dont make a transfer, and then contintue making just one (unless there is a real emergency) for the following weeks.

This strategy will always give you an ave up your sleeve.

Trust me, it works, just need to be patients for only one week.

FT used and this is my team -

    Boruc (FUL)

Zabaleta (che) - Coleman (avl) - Clyne (FUL)

Silva (che) - Ozil (cry) - Whittingham (nor) - Michu (WHU)

Suarez (WBA) - Lukaku (avl) - Giroud (avl)

Guys, I made this goal involvement table, and thought I'd share it with you:

    http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/public-stats-tables/view/4252/

"Which players score and help score the goals for their teams? This table contains players having directly contributed (goals and assists) to more than a third of their team's goals over the last 6 gameweeks. Minimum 3 starts to ensure sample size."

    Feedback and votes welcome.

    Terry Toure Coleman Reid Murner
    Michu Ramsey Mirallas Brady ERIKSEN
    Rooney Suarez Giroud
    2 FT's
    0.1 in the bank

I am upgrading Eriksen to Silva/Hazard no matter what this week. Where do i find the 0.7-1 million from my team to do that though? Thinkin either Coleman to Clyne or Rooney to Benteke(going to do this move soon anyway). Any other potential downgrade(kinda happy with the rest of my team to be honest)?

Coleman averages 1.5 key passes and 1 shot a game.. not that gr8 really. but he should do ok over the season for a 5 million defender(which is what i got him at). Rooney is a bit overpriced at the moment and i will be downgrading him soon for benteke either way(just cannot get aguero.. been burnt far too many times).

Is double SWA midfield too much?

With both fixtures and form on their side, and a plethora of talent in their midfield for under 6m, is it a reasonable tactic to opt for Michu + 1 other Swan for the coming weeks?

Hernandez @ 5.9m looks particularly interesting and I'm deciding between him and Paulinho this week.

This plan looks pretty decent to me (disclaimer - chances of me sticking to it are essentially zero):

GW9: Nolan -> Hernandez (if he features on Thurs)
    GW10: Sturridge -> Aguero
    GW11: Giroud -> Benteke
    GW12: Mirallas -> Walcott/Hazard

i would not get rid of Sturridge(unless you have Suarez too), Mirallas(though GW 12 is far, far away) and Especially Giroud(Madness to get rid of the main striker @ Arsenal.. especially if you got him @ 8.5). Double swans could work though

Cheers - my thinking below - let me know if it seems flawed! 🙂

Nolan -> Hernandez. Nolan has been awful and Hernandez has good fixtures and looked great before injury. Also raises 1m for later trades.

Sturridge -> Aguero. I have S&S at the moment, which I don't think is sustainable long term. Aguero is hitting form and has decent fixtures after this week. Also a great (c) option next week.

Giroud -> Benteke. This is a little tricky as Giroud has been great so far. But, from GW11-17 he has United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, City, Sot and Cardiff away, i.e. uber tough fixtures. Id be losing him for mun, which I wouldn't expect him to score massive in. Meanwhile Benteke has CAR and decent fixtures to follow. Would still have Ramsey as Arsenal cover and then next week.....

Mirallas -> Walcott. 3 decent fixtures for Arsenal (before a tough run) and 3/4 tough ones for Everton.

Nolan to Hernandez looks good.. i'd do Sturridge to Benteke and keep Giroud though. and then do Mirallas to Silva for City's fixtures. Personal preference though.. your choices could go either way

I think it would be a good tactic to go double Swansea.

Ah, didn't see that before - good post!

I guess the main concern is rotation with Dyer, Routledge, Shelvey etc being there.

How do you see their first choice front 6 lining up?

        -----------------------Bony
        ------------------------------Michu
        Hernandez----Canas----De Guzman----Dyer

        Assuming
        i) Britton competes with Canas
        ii) Routledge competes with Routledge/Hernandez
ii) Shelvey competes with De Guzman

        ??

I guess Michu and Hernandez will play behind Bony or else Bony wil be a super sub and instead Michu will play ahead.

That was Early Bird which finished this week as neither of the last 2 made the mark with 1 failing by a point.

A GW rank of about 2.4M is needed if no hits. You were close on one occasion. Competition will get harder the longer it goes.

A lot of people are saying utd looked bad at weekend..

I believe they rattled the crossbar twice and Boruc was beasting it in goal.

I don't think we can write them off just yet

STK ARS car tot in the next 5.. can see them struggling to get many goals against those defenses to be honest.. Their defense is looking very leaky too.. can see a lot of 1-1's in there

Which player do you think is the best captain option for this week? Whether you own him or not..
    Benteke for me
Doubt we'll see him high up in the captains poll as not many own him but he's the one for me this week. Everton have been conceding and i can see this being a very high scoring game

2nd best attack vs 2nd worst defence - Giroud and Ozil look great picks to me.

Right up there also is Suarez, Benteke, RVP & Rooney for me.

Rooney too? Actually you may be right.. i just checked and Stoke City conceded a lot of shots vs WBA at the weekend and were very lucky to come away with a CS, while Manu could have scored a lot more vs Soton(though tbh Soton could have scored more too) so Rooney could do ok this week. Decisions, Decisions

does anyone have any insight as to whether coutinho will be back this wknd or not...? if so i can only imagine him playing a bit part role off the bench.

any pool fans out there that can help me here...? think i might get him in on my free pre-empting his return.

as a spurs fan, i don't even know what will happen with eriksen at the moment so i'm looking at getting rid of.

    Vorm
    Terry, Shaw, Mertesacker
    Ramsey, Michu, Eriksen, Oscar
    Giroud, Soldado, Sturridge

    Stekelenburg, Barkley, Coleman, Amorebieta
No FT, 0 in the bank

    Actually,

    A) Stick with Ivanovic, Eriksen -> Ramsey now and Giroud -> Aguero GW 10
    B) Eriksen Ivanovic -> Ozil Chico now and Giroud -> Aguero GW 10
    C) Stick with Ivanovic, Eriksen -> Silva now, and stick with Giroud and save myself a trannie
    D) Do nothing now. Stick with Erisken. Analyse GW 10 with 2 FTs available.

A is jerky, but Ramsey is doing a Michu.
B is ballsy. I like it.
C is meh never been a fan of Silva and I want Aguero.
    D is rational choice

    So which one?
