Our Saturday morning regular has been shifted a few hours forward, as we roll out a trio of overlooked alternatives for your Friday night consideration. Arsenal’s Spanish schemer, Swansea’s big-money summer signing and United’s budget-friendly centre-half all arrive on our radar – crucially, as the fixtures pick up pace over the festive period, all three look strong options for this weekend and beyond:

Santi Cazorla

Despite returning to the Arsenal first-team in Gameweek 8, the little Spaniard remains firmly under the radar. With Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil sitting in 58% and 32% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) teams respectively, Cazorla continues to be overlooked yet, with a goal and maximum bonus points in his previous home fixture against Liverpool, he’s starting to hint at the form that harvested 205 FPL points in his debut campaign in England’s top-flight.

Having scored for his country in the recent international break, Cazorla is in fine form as the league leaders seek to take advantage of three home games in four. Certainly, the visit of Southampton won’t be easy but with games against the likes of Hull and Cardiff directly after, he could be set to prosper. Coming in at 9.6 in FPL – with a 2% ownership – Cazorla will set you back 8.7 in the Sky Sports game and 6.0 in the Sun Dream Team, and, as his 12 goals and 13 assists last season suggest, his attacking contribution will be vital as Wenger’s side look to build on a run of four successive wins at the Emirates.

Wilfried Bony

It’s been a stop-start campaign for the Ivorian since arriving on these shores during the summer. Michael Laudrup may have splashed £12m on Bony’s services but a lack of full pre-season has seen him garner more game time in the Europa League, with five starts and five sub appearances in the Premier League an indication of his stuttering domestic campaign.

Nonetheless, the stats are impressive. Over 18 appearances in all competitions for the Swans, Bony has produced 10 goals and three assists and, having bagged a brace in the previous league encounter at home to Stoke, he looks a secure starter against struggling Fulham tomorrow afternoon. Certainly, with Michu still sidelined due to knee and ankle problems, Laudrup can ill-afford to bench the new boy – Bony’s impact is summed up by the fact that his side have scored 11 goals in the five games he has started, compared to four strikes in the other six. At 7.4 in FPL, 8.0 in the Sky Sports game and 3.5 in the Sun Dream Team, he also has games against Newcastle, Hull and Norwich in the next five to maintain his recent rise to prominence.

Jonny Evans

Having started five of the last six at the heart of United’s back-four, the Northern Ireland international looks to have established himself as a regular in David Moyes’ plans. With the new manager utilising Rio Ferdinand somewhat sparingly, Evans has been handed the chance to impress at the back, with his prospects further boosted by Moyes’ preference for Phil Jones in central midfield.

With Jones now a doubt for the weekend trip to Cardiff, Evans is set to slot in alongside fit-again Nemanja Vidic at centre-half as United look to build on the clean sheet accrued against Arsenal in the previous Gameweek. As the fixtures arrive quickly over the festive period, Evans – at 5.0 in FPL, 7.2 in the Sky Sports game and 5.0 in the Sun Dream Team, – seems the least susceptible to his manager’s rotational whims and offers a relatively budget-friendly route into a backline that has a very kind schedule from Gameweek 14 (EVE, NEW, avl, WHM, hul, nor) up until the New Year.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

ok folks heres a doozy of a question for you, or 2 actually 🙂 firstly heres my team for tomorrows action. is it ok or would you change goalkeeper or stick on Johnson for someone else?

    Krul

    Davies, Pieters, McCauley

    Ramsey, Sessegnon, Hazard, Coutino

    Remy, Giroud, Suarez

    Bench is: McGregor, Johnson,Bacuna,Rat

Secondly I have .7 in the bank. Considering my wildcard is active right now, would there be one player to change to use my spare cash?

Deciding whether to play Coleman is making my head hurt. (Or maybe it's the wine). In your case, I think you have it right. Don't play Coleman against your Captain.
I'm going Rooney (c) over Suarez. Not hugely confident, but it seems the best of some less-than-ideal options.

Why not start Faye over Coleman? Faye is far from guaranteed to start, but is unlikely to come on for a cameo and has as good a fixture as you can get.

He is playing really well of late but this run is only due to injuries\suspensions of Saylor Colo yanga-mbwia and Debuchy. Wouldn't bring him in as soon as everyone is fit he will be phased out fairly fast. Newcastle fan here btw

Some people seem to think he will keep his place... When all are fit though I think the back four will be Debuchy, Collocinni, Saylor, Santon

      Chico and Clyne.
Clyne and Dawson are close, though. Both are in tough.

It's tough. Sometimes you can't avoid playing your strikers against your defence. Nastasic may not even play? Chico and Dawson anyway IMO spurs have only conceded once away from home all season. Clyne has potential attacking returns

    Boruc

    Ward Coleman Toure Clyne Mbiwa

Pick 3 from defenders. Have Suarez/Ramsey/Ozil if that has any effect.

Thinking Coleman Ward and Mbiwa. Doesn't seem right.

The decision might be made for you, since Toure may not play.
I think that you have it right.

@Cromulenti, if as you said on last page you want to expand the standard deviation and are playing Coleman, then do you want to captain Suarez instead of Rooney? I am going Aguero (c) since I have Walker, with Cazorla vs my Boruc as the other option. Instead of punting when I can't decide who will score most I want to raise my team's ceiling as much as I can. Does that make sense?

Are you playing Walker? The idea that I have (and I admit that I have not thought it through cometely) is that playing an attacker against a defender means a lower ceiling, and a lower floor. But the mid-point is probably the same. If Aguero blanks, then Walker probably has a cs. I'd rather play another defender so if Aguero goes off, I still have a chance for clean sheets elsewhere.
How the captain choice skews the math, I'm not sure.

Unfortunately I have to play Walker as my bench is MTurner and Chester.

I hear what you're saying about separating attack and defense whenever possible as the potential for that pair will be reduced, but I can't sort the math for the captaincy either.

Since you have two attacker-defender combos, I don't think there is much difference captaining Aguero or Cazorla in terms of raising the ceiling. You'll be shooting yourself in the foot twice... but that's not all bad. Aguero blanking probably means Walker with a cs.

I plan on sitting Coleman. I suppose that if I was more confident in Suarez then I should captain him over Rooney.
As far as I can tell, the ceiling will be the same captaining Suarez or Rooney as long as I don't play any Everton or Cardiff defenders. The "ceiling" should be a function of how many attacker vs defender combos exist in your lineup.

ok im still stuck on my defence for the run up to xmas.i could either go

    Pieters, McCauley, Johnson, Davies, Collins

    or

    Pieters, McCauley, Johnson, Gibbs, Rat

keeping in mind if I go with the Gibbs option id have 3 Arsenal and 3 Liverpool players. Overkill??

I have the EXACT same dilemma...Januzaj has a more explosive potential(I've been told), but Snodgrass on set plays and and penalties and guaranteed to start.

    Morning Chaps.

What should I do with my FT?

    A. Giroud to Aguero?
    or
    B. Barkley to Snodgrass?

    Current starting team is:

    Boruc
    Baines / Terry / Murner
    Oscar / Ravel / Ramsey / Amalfitano
    Giroud / Rooney (C) / Suarez (vc)

Subs: Davis / Barkley / Turner / Wilson

    $4.5m in the bank

The Giroud to Aguero move obviously has way more upside but I like the Barkley to Snodgrass move better. I really like Giroud over the next four fixtures.

Cheers - Yeah the sensible move seems to be to sort out the MID and I also think Giroud could do well over the next few. It's just being finally able to get Aguero for free is so tempting....

Giroud is at home against Soto this week, to me which is a tasty fixture so I guess you can delay the transfer to next week. And since you are going to bench Barkley's spot anyway according to your current starting team, why don't you save your FT? 😉
