Danny Welbeck notches twice as England get the better of Switzerland. David Silva is instrumental in Spain’s hammering of Macedonia, Stevan Jovetic picks up a hamstring problem in training for Montenegro, Jose Mourinho is happy with Chelsea’s new attacking approach, while United receive some mixed injury news ahead of the home encounter against QPR.

DANNY DOES THE DOUBLE

Arsenal’s new recruit Danny Welbeck scored both goals in England’s 2-0 win over Switzerland in their first Euro 2016 qualifier last night. The former Man United striker tucked home Raheem Sterling’s cross early in the second half before grabbing a late second courtesy of a Rickie Lambert assist.

The Scout Says: The 66,000 managers to have already gambled on Welbeck in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game since last week’s transfer will be buoyant after last night’s performance in Basel. The striker gave a clear response to those who claim he ‘can’t score goals’ with two excellently taken finishes, and now looks set for even more investment ahead of this weekend’s deadline. With Olivier Giroud out till the New Year, and Yaya Sanogo failing to find the net in 17 competitive matches for the Gunners, Arsene Wenger will be hoping that Welbeck can carry through his form from last night and finally provide him with a reliable forward option. Nonetheless, Arsenal have fixtures against Man City, Tottenham and Chelsea to come in their next four, meaning that Welbeck faces a tough task if he is to reward those who have opted for his services.

SILVA SHINES IN SPAIN TRIUMPH

David Silva earned a penalty, bagged one goal and assisted another as Spain ran out 5-1 victors over Macedonia in their first Euro qualifier.

The Scout Says: Having been outperformed by Yaya Toure in midfield for Man City last season, Silva probably didn’t receive the attention he deserved at the start of the current campaign. A goal in Gameweek 1 changed all that, though the talismanic Spaniard has still failed to surpass City’s forward assets for our attentions, with many turning to Sergio Aguero as fail-safe cover for the Blues’ attack. Last night’s showing demonstrates what the playmaker is capable of, however, and his efforts looks crucial for Manuel Pellegrini’s outfit in they are to overcome Arsenal and Chelsea in their next two fixtures.

JOVETIC INJURY CONFIRMED

Man City’s Stevan Jovetic returned from international duty with Montenegro yesterday with a hamstring injury sustained in training. The striker missed last night’s 2-0 win against Moldova for his national side, and is now a doubt for City’s trip to Arsenal this weekend.

The Scout Says: Jovetic’s two-goal showing against Liverpool in Gameweek 2 saw the Montenegrin rocket up our Watchlist, and subsequently earned the forward a starting spot alongside Sergio Aguero the following week, with Edin Dzeko having to make do with a second-half appearance from the bench in the 1-0 loss to Stoke. A prolonged absence for Jovetic will, however, bring the 8.5-priced Dzeko back into reckoning, and Manuel Pellegrini will now not only be reliant on Aguero keeping fit, but will also be praying that the Bosnian can rediscover the form that saw him notch an impressive 16 times in the league last season. Whilst the extent of Jovetic’s injury remains unconfirmed, managers with an itchy trigger finger, who are eyeing up alternatives aside from Dzeko, could consider freeing up some extra cash by switching to Welbeck. Alternatively, for those with budget to spare, Mario Balotelli, at 10.0 in FPL, could well prove to be as equally explosive a differential option if Daniel Sturridge is sidelined ahead of Liverpool’s four home fixtures in the next six.

MOURINHO IMPRESSED WITH ATTACK

Jose Mourinho has hailed the new attacking style which has seen his Chelsea side win all three of their Premier League matches so far this season:

“It’s a direction we tried to establish since the beginning of last season but our squad now is different. We have different qualities now in our players. The second season normally is a good season for a manager because you come from one season of work and you can choose a better direction you want to go and we feel comfortable and we feel happy the way we are doing things. Are we going to lose matches? Obviously, yes, but in this moment we are getting results and we are enjoying our style of play.”

The Scout Says: We need look no further than last Gameweek’s 6-3 victory over Everton as an indication that a new philosophy has been installed at Stamford Bridge. The Special One’s new initiative does not, however, bode too well from a defensive point of view, and Branislav Ivanovic’s 20.9% ownership may be reliant on the right-back adding to his tally of two goals and an assist if returns are to be reaped. On the other hand, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard look set to continue to thrive in the Blues’ new ‘direction’, though it remains to be seen whether they will be without their target man for this weekend’s home clash with Swansea. Diego Costa is now reported to be undergoing further scans at Chelsea’s training ground after returning home early from international duty with a hamstring problem, though he is yet to be ruled out of the Stamford Bridge encounter.

MIXED INJURY NEWS FOR UNITED

Man United’s summer recruit Ander Herrera is back in training after recovering from an ankle knock and could give his side a timely boost by returning to action in this Sunday’s clash with QPR. United boss Louis van Gaal will, however, be less than happy to hear the news that Phil Jones limped off towards the closing stages of England’s win last night with a suspected hamstring injury.

The Scout Says: With Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind and Darren Fletcher all fit and available in the centre of the park for United, Herrera is by no means certain to make an instant return to the starting line-up on Sunday. That said, the Spaniard is sure to be a major component in Van Gaal’s side this season, and – once fully fit and refreshed – will be hopeful of nailing down a role in the middle, whether in a 3-4-1-2 or 4-3-3. The potential absence of Jones will be a major blow for the Red Devils, with the England international one of the few players to really impress thus far. The 4.5-priced Tyler Blackett’s run of starts could be set to continue then, though Van Gaal may now consider a switch to a back-four if Jones is indeed out of the frame.

Please Help - my team is riddled with injures and played wild card LAST week. Have also already done Eriksen for Tadic this week so no free transfer. Clearly need to do at least one more, but will also consider a minus 8 hit if sound advice!

    Krul (elliot)
Jones Robertson Bertrand (PVA, Wisdom - probably both now starting over injured Jones and Robert)
    Siggy Ramsey Fab Tadic Arfield
    Rooney (c) Sturridge (Jov)

    Thanks!

          Ok....let's look at this...

You have PvA, Wisdom & Arfield on the bench - these guys will score points.

I personally am starting PvA, and a cleanie for Wisdom is not insane to suggest at home as well.

Studge says it's minor, wait on Jovetic then ship him if he's crocked - Dzeko or Welbeck, Ade if you got the cash

I'd be tempted to d Jovetic-->Naismith and bench Arfield.
A -8 if Sturridge is out is also in order. Costa if fit would be my suggested replacement, if not, then I'd go Balotelli.

      Stur ---> Balo

Even with injuries you'll still have:

      Krul
      Bert PVA Wisdom
      Siggy Ram Fab Tad Ar
      Roo Balo

I would imagine you can still squeeze 50 points out of that with balo as C.

I have a problem. I can do a straight swap Naismith to Welbeck right now.

Naismith has West Bromwich away, Welbeck Man City home.

Do it now, or next week. If Welbeck rises even 0.1, I cannot do a straight swap anymore.

    Bleh.

Hi all, so my Current WC team is :

    Krul/Mannone

    Ivanovic / Chambers / Mee / McShane / Wisdom

    Sterling / Siggy / Silva / Ramsey / Zaha

    Falcao / Costa / Welbeck

    Thoughts?

I have considered changing Falcao and Welbeck to Aguero and Naismith and seeing how the new signing pan out first.

I am a little worried about my cheap ass defence, but it gives me such nice options in midfield and attack.

I was considering going Zaha -> 4.5 mid (Jones/Quinn maybe), because I will pretty much be playing my other 4 mids every week and my 3 fwds can play every week too. This sould give me the money to go Wisdom/McShance to Clyne which gives me better options for my back 3 every week. (Ivan and Clyne would probably play every week then).

Mee and McShane are just cheap filler defenders that should play (I think). McShane i know may be under threat from Dawson for his position, but i remeber seeing a HUll fan say that McShane would stay in the starting 11 for now,. Its unfortunately necessary for my expensive mid and fwd line.

As for Silva, that is a bit punty, mostly just to get city coverage as well. I only have 0.1 ITB so can't afford Fab, perhaps I could go for Mirallas. Really not sure what the best 9.1 or less option would be.

I wouldn't have Chambers in my WC team mate, or 3 4m defenders.

4.5m options: Naylor, Wilson, Robertson, and PVA.

The plan with Zaha sounds good! Swap out Chambers as well though.

I was planning on holding Chambers as long as he stays in the team, but with the tough fixtures coming up it is probably a good idea to get rid of him I agree. At this point it just felt like too good value for an Ars defender. Thanks for the advice though 🙂

downgrade zaha to king and upgrade mee and chambers. wilson and van aanholt good options at the back. zaha will be sitting warming your bench most weeks so what is the point spending £5.4 on him when you could be playing 3 solid defs every week. you also need every penny you can get so downgrade mannone to elliot and upgrade another defender. newcastle and sunderland do rotate but they have similar fixtures so again you will have £4.5 sitting on the bench every week. hopefully this helps! cheers.

Hmm, yeah I agree on the Zaha option (considered King as well).

As for the keepers, personally i really don't trust Newcastle to keep clean sheets away from home so i would like to be able to do the H/A rotation. But its a fair point that they have similar fixtures.

Perhaps I need to find another9.0 rotating combo.

if rvp scores he's in my team, any hint of form, even a goal off his face. he played 80 last week so surely up to the 90 mark now.
try not to bet but nehterlands are evens to wins this match, that's a teaser even without robben and rvp in desperate form

He cannot inspire this great young team to conquer the world or Europe, even though they could do it....

Hodgson talked up the greatest players ever as Pele, Maradona, and Pirlo after the loss to Italy, showed them ultimate respect, gave Pirlo the ball....then Costa Rica and Uruguay proceeded to eliminate the Italians as they knew better

Don't think too hard; you'd have 4 defs with solid fixtures just pick who you think is best each week, Krul you can upgrade later when TV is better but he's fine for the next 6. I'd do it

That was my thinking initially too but having left him in the reserves against Leicester as he wasn't likely to start I'm thinking he'd be a waste most of the time - I'd only really play him if one of Mert/Kosc was injured and/or he was playing on day 1 and I had no better alternatives. I sense I'd let him rot an awful lot.

        I'm torn now.

Getting an extra 1.5 looks tough. I've gone into the season with two 4.0s but as I'm now setting up for the winter that feels a lot riskier. Henderson looks consistent and great value, I expect him to chip goals in at home more than away and think his start has been great considering the fixtures.

Tadic et al are very tempting though. If anything, it'd have to be Ade who made way to fund.

i'll put the rvp thing in more specific words.
a place-holder for sturridge or aguero. hope for goals v qpr and leicester then move him on (in 1 transfer, without having to keep money in the bank) to the more tantilising youthful talents of sturridge or aguero, hey, maybe even falcao with the benefit of seeing his audition

I think we need to get away from that idea - as Siggy this week showed, even Sterling GW1, price shouldn't dictate captaincy.

But then, if he's a doubtful option for captaincy, is he worth his price? You can have 6ppg players for less.

Clubs could get money from fines paid by rivals

The European Club Association says it wants UEFA to give more than $30 million collected from Financial Fair Play fines back to other clubs.

Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Zenit St. Petersburg, who were among nine clubs sanctioned for overspending on player transfers and wages, paid almost all of the 24 million euros ($31 million) withheld from Champions League prize money last season.

ECA chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says the group gave UEFA's executive committee a proposal for sharing the money among clubs playing in last season's Champions League and Europa League, excluding the offenders.

The ECA says more than 70 group-stage clubs would each get about 265,000 euros ($341,000). The remaining 20 percent, 4.4 million euros ($5.7 million), would be spread among clubs eliminated in qualifying rounds.

OMG that would be absolutely terrible. Why on earth should it go to clubs in the CL?! They already get loads of money. What about clubs from smaller nations that don't benefit from the exorbitant tv deals?

Sorry if i've missed discussions around this subject previously, i've played FPL for a few years but am slowly taking it more seriously, i'd like to know in particular why there has been no price drop for the likes of Wazza/those who top the transfers out (Round) table.

An explanation would be great as i transfered Rooney out this week expecting that he'd drop in price (and through poor form of course)

    Thanks
