Having assessed those teams with Strong upcoming schedules yesterday evening, we now turn our attentions to those with less favourable fixtures across the next four-to-six Gameweeks. Three of the current top six face testing times ahead, whilst nearer the bottom of the table, Burnley face a tough task to steer clear of the drop zone.

Arsenal

“frisking

The Gunners are set for a tough time over Christmas, with four of their next six fixtures on the road. Trips to Liverpool, West Ham, Southampton and City will test their resolve, though it’s worth noting that Arsenal have failed to score just once all season – away to Chelsea – and with Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck, Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud all offering options in the final third, their potent attack could still prevail.

Home clashes against QPR and Stoke certainly offer a greater degree of optimism but with Laurent Koscielny still struggling due to injury, it remains to be seen if the north London side can improve upon a run of two clean sheets in six. Fit-again Mathieu Debuchy, at 5.2, is the cheapest regular, though Calum Chambers should benefit if Arsene Wenger continues to court caution with Koscielny’s fitness over the busy period.

Southampton

“frisking

It’s five defeats in a row now for the Saints after last night’s demoralising cup loss at Sheffield United. With their confidence at a season-low, it’s difficult to see how Ronald Koeman can turn his side around in light of a schedule which pits them against Everton, Chelsea, Arsenal and United over the short-term, whilst trips to Palace and Newcastle will be far from straightforward, either.

Koeman has Morgan Schneiderlin, Victor Wanyama and Florin Gardos suspended for the Toffees visit, though will be hoping his decision to rest Dusan Tadic in midweek will reinvigorate the Serbian, who now has one assist in eight appearances. Graziano Pelle served a one-match suspension against the Blades but has similarly poor form, whilst a run of five matches without a clean sheet looks very unlikely to be rectified anytime soon.

Stoke

“frisking

After taking four points from their last two, Mark Hughes’ side are in decent form right now. Whether the Potters can maintain their recent revival looks debatable, though – showdowns with Chelsea, Everton, United and Arsenal in the next five Gameweeks suggest otherwise.

Certainly, Stoke’s defence has looked one to avoid for some time anyway – a single shut-out in the last 13 rounds of fixtures should have alarms bells ringing for anyone still holding the likes of Asmir Begovic or Ryan Shawcross. Jon Walters’ run of three goals and as many assists in his last six looks to be severely tested here – all the more so if Bojan fails to shrug off the hip complaint that forced him off at the weekend. Peter Crouch has notched in back-to-back outings since a first-team return but there are plenty of budget options around with far better fixtures.

Also Be Wary Of…

Chelsea
Clearly, Jose Mourinho’s side have the form, the class and the confidence to make a mockery of any fixture list and anyone owning Chelsea players will be more than happy to hold. Nonetheless, with four road trips in the next six (sto, sou, tot, swa), Eden Hazard’s owners will be desperate for a major improvement, bearing in mind the Belgian has just two assists away from Stamford Bridge all season. Last night’s cup opener at Derby will hopefully be a sign of things to come.

Like Hazard, Oscar has also toiled on his travels and earned points only once away from home, though the pair, along with Cesc Fabregas, also welcome West Ham and Newcastle to the Bridge over that period. Diego Costa’s 12 goals in 13 appearances continue to bring in new owners – rested in midweek, he could now be immune to his manager’s talk of festive rotation.

Surprisingly, Chelsea have managed just one away clean sheet in eight attempts but with four shut-outs in their last five in the league, Mourinho’s men have stepped up their resilience as they start to grind out results over the winter period.

Burnley
Sean Dyche’s side face three testing trips (tot, mcy, new) and a home encounter with Liverpool over the next four rounds of fixtures before the schedule smiles a little kinder around the Gameweek 21 mark. Bearing in mind that Burnley have scored more than a single goal on just two occasions so far, Danny Ings’ owners may be thinking twice over holding across the festive period, though three goals and a pair of assists in the previous five highlights his form. Elsewhere, budget favourite George Boyd may struggle for more than two-pointers, whilst a run of two clean sheets in 11 league outings underlines the Clarets’ issues at the back.

Newcastle
The Magpies welcome back Steven Taylor and Moussa Sissoko from suspension just in time for a derby clash with Sunderland this weekend. Alan Pardew’s side have now conceded in each of their last four, though, and the white-hot atmosphere of a Tyne-Wear encounter is always unpredictable at both ends of the pitch. After that, Newcastle face United, Everton and Chelsea in the subsequent four, with only a visit from Burnley providing the calm amidst a Christmas storm. Papiss Cisse showed against Chelsea he’s capable of producing regardless of opponent but with Pardew keen to manage his minutes, it remains to be seen how much pitch time he’ll be afforded over the packed festive period.

This is THE question of the day... I already have Bony and Austin so thinking:

      A) Giroud
      B) Costa (-4)
      C) Benteke
      D) Rooney (-4)

From now until January WC, would you rather have an MCI defender or a CHE defender? I believe Chelsea will conceded in their next 4 games. Or in at least 3.

We know they have a proven backline. But they have tough teams coming up. They have played EVE, MCI, ARS, MUN, LIV, SWA, TOT. Only keeping 2 CS out of 7. The rest of the teams they have played have been easy.

If you have this mentality then you obviously favour a City defender, so go for one of them.

          Are they really proven though?

Yes they have had 4 CS in their last 5. But prior to that (When I had Cahill) they had 3 CS in their last 11. (LEI, AVL, ARS)

    Bert/ Jags/Wisdom/Chambers/Duff
    Haz/Alexis/Yaya/Oscar/Jedi
    Rooney/Tekke/Austin

    0 ITB. 1 ft.

    1. Oscar to Nasri/ Erikssen/ Downing
    2. Bert/jags to city defender

Can't do 2nd transfer without first. Should I just ship out Oscar and take care of defence next week?

Oscar not doing much. Can't see chelsea scoring many goals so no point doubling up in MF. Either city MF could produce of Erikssen can keep up his form. Downing fixtures tighten up after this week. So trilemma

Yeah, not sure I could handle multiple teams. It's bad enough in FPL/UFPL not knowing who to cheer for etc. Multiple draft teams would just be awful, you'd own nearly every player in one team or another 😆

Good fix? On PK duties? Just enough money itb to do B. Can you name any other potential candidate?

I'm looking for a Dzeko replacement myself. Giroud is creeping his way to the top of the list though. Not sold on Austin, though I understand why he's an FFS darling...but he was a darling when budget was a concern. Dynamics have changed a little.

RVP doesn't offer much value to me. I do have Haz/Costa + Bony. Don't want to double up on WHU attack. Liverpool are kak. Rooney could play midfield the whole of xmas.

Giroud's form stands out for me. He's a big time confidence player. Some concerns probably around the fragile midfield. This article has Arsenal with tricky fixtures though, thoughts on that?

          1. NABIL - FPL otai
            • 13 Years

Tricky fixtures for sure, but Giroud is the only pure striker we can rely upon. Plus he has QPR next week, that's very tempting.

If I got the extra cash, I'd go RvP for sure. But then I think Fab -> Haz is a transfer waiting to happen.

            1. Shifty

              11 years, 2 months ago

Yea RVP aside, Giroud is the best pick imo. Donkey at real football, but his FPL history speaks for itself. Understandably, the Arsenal mids hog the headlines, but he still gets consistent scores.

I do have 6.3 mil in the bank, but not sure whether to keep some of that for flexibility. 4.5 will be used to spend on Dzeko>RVP. But I guess as a United fan, best to snuggle up with that RVP blanket while it's warm?

With RvP, you have a very reliable option for Captaincy. One that you can't get from Giroud.

                RVP 1st, G-Ru 2nd imo.

My thinking is Kolarov should start this GW with Clichy to get his rest & also the fact that he is more suited for fixture like this especially when they don't have recognised striker. Clichy will start against away to WBA but Kolarov should start again at home to BUR as it's only 2 days after Boxing day match. That means CPL, BUR fixtures in next 3 for £5.7m mini-Baines without Mirallas!

It's a risk but could be worth taking?

I just dont trust Sakho to be honest got him in after his streak and he proceeded to blank two and get injured, he feels sort of Lukakuish in this regard....

As a United fan i'm quite torn. RVP isn't playing that great overall, but he's getting into good positions.

Giroud has form, confidence player. Possibly on pens. Tricky fixtures accordingly to this article, but in terms of opponents...not that bad for the next 4 imo.

Just looked at the potential rotation head ache the Costa->Sakho downgrade might create if the spare cash is used to beef up Boyd to an expensive Milf over the next 5-6 weeks.

Other then GW 18 when Siggy plays Ars(a) and Sakho plays Chel(a) it's actually not to bad.

    GW 20 might be a problem with Siggy(qpr), Sakho(WBA) and Austin(SWA).

Let's hope the PL managers rest some players to solve my issue.

Kolarov was injured for a fair while so I wouldn't quite say clichy has been first choice all season

Nope-Fletch isn't heavy enough and belongs in that second tier of forwards with the likes of Carroll, Gru, Ings, Pelle et al.

Hey just a heads up, people often vote in captain poll for who they are captaining, not who the best captain is. That means result may be skewed a bit. Just an observation.

1st of all Clichy wasn't 1st choice all season. They used to rotate before Kolarov got injured.

Scout team news is predicting it 'cause they think that Clichy will be rested this GW. Zaba got his rest last week so probably it's Clichy's turn. Also could be the fact that Kolarov is more suited for this kind of fixture especially when they don't have a recognised striker.

Can we have a new rule where it's not allowed to mention him by name? Every time i hear Kolarov my fingers start twitching and I want to take a hit ti get him in

Well, I, for one, don't get this. I have looked and looked, and it seems to me that Clichy has been picked whenever fit.

Clichy has missed three games - Stoke Villa and Chelski. Try picking a pattern out of that.

what was the general trend last season? Can't recall.

Was it Clichy played for the tough home games due to him being better defensively? And Kolarov at all other times?

Some people think that's what happened but I think they were rotated randomly.

morning morning , even though ive a solid team I think xmas could well be difficult with a lot of away fixtures and possible rotation .
so with this in mind when can I avail of the winter wildcard ?

Save transfer and 'Good 2 go'?

    Guzen (Given)
Baines - Wisdom - Yun (Hutton - Duff)
Downing - Yaya - Sanchez - Hazard (Wanyama)
    Costa - Austin - Bony
