Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are back for Arsenal. Leighton Baines is expected to return for Everton’s home clash with City, though Sylvain Distin is ruled out for the Merseysiders. Villa skipper Ron Vlaar is out for up to six weeks with a knee injury. Tim Krul is expected to return for Newcastle’s weekend trip to Stamford Bridge, Brendan Rodgers hopes to have Daniel Sturridge back at some point this month, whilst Marouane Chamakh could be set to return for Palace.

Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini are all available for Arsenal’s clash with Stoke after returning to training, though Danny Welbeck has been ruled out by Arsene Wenger.

Robert Martinez has ruled Sylvain Distin out of the visit of Man City this weekend, with the defender picking up a groin problem against the Hammers in midweek. Elsewhere, the Blues boss has confirmed that Leighton Baines missed the midweek tie with a knock, though is expected to be fully fit for the weekend.

Aston Villa have been rocked by the news that captain Ron Vlaar will miss the next four to six weeks of action with a knee injury. Meanwhile, Nathan Baker, Kieran Richardson and Gabby Agbonlahor are all expected to return in time for the trip to Leicester.

Tim Krul made his return from injury for Newcastle’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Celtic on Thursday evening. The Dutch stopper played 45 minutes, and went on to reveal that he feels good and hopes to be in contention for the meeting with Chelsea on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Daniel Sturridge is in the final stages of his recovery, and hopes the striker will be available again “at some point in January.”

Leicester midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has been ruled out of the weekend visit of Villa through injury, after the Argentine was withdrawn early on in the Foxes’ cup victory over Newcastle last week. In more positive news, fellow midfielder Danny Drinkwater may be in contention to train on Friday having come off injured against Liverpool, whilst Dean Hammond and Andy King have both made a return to training ahead of the weekend visit of Aston Villa.

Burnley skipper Jason Shackell will hope to prove his fitness in time for the weekend, after missing the midweek tie against Spurs with a calf injury. Clarets boss Sean Dyche is optimistic that the defender will train with the squad today, and is expected to make a judgement call on the skipper’s availability for the weekend. Fellow centre-back Michael Duff has also returned to training following injury, and will also be looking to prove his fitness ahead of the visit of QPR.

Alan Pardew could be handed a boost for his first home match in charge of Palace, with reports indicating that Marouane Chamakh could be set to make the squad for the visit of Tottenham.

Does Silva get less FPL points when Aguero is on the field? Anyone got stats?

I'd say more. You need a striker finishing his chances.

What the last month may have shown him and Pellegrini, is that he IS capable of scoring goals if he needs to. Sounds odd putting it like that, but he probably thinks of himself as a provider and not a goal scorer.

The counter, someone was saying the other day:

With Milner upfront Silva pushes up and takes responsibility for scoring.
With Aguero upfrront Silva drops and starts assisting the assister with no responsibility to score.

Do you think you will drop Silva now then? No points fo assisting the assister

Exactly, but I'd argue that's a subconscious decision rather than a tactical one. The age old argument of not going with Silva in FPL is that he doesn't score enough. Well, he's kind of proven that he can if he needs to. It's just a matter of whether he'll slip back into playing the pretty football on the edge of the box.

So you're thinking more assists but not so much in goals department. Is it even worth having Silva if you've got Aguero?

I think Eriksen gets you the same points for 1m less. I'm 50/50 on Silva - I'd rather have Hazard and Sanchez ahead of him and a cheaper goal threat such as Sterling (once revitalised) and possibly Chadli.

I'm currentlty on Silva, Sanchez, Fab, Hazard, Chadli. So not sure what to do with Silva

And 1 big one up top with 2 cheapies? In that case, I'd prefer Giroud to Silva or Fabregas - he'll score more and you can give yourself a benchable 5th mid.

Silva gets points when they play one striker. If they play two he gets put out wide.

    Who to bench?

    Sterling (sun)
    Silva (eve)
    Austin (bur)
    Downing (swa)

Currently on Downing but having second thoughts if he plays in the 'hole'.

Arsène Wenger has revealed the following team news ahead of the Stoke City game:

    on the latest updates…
The team news is that Ramsey (hamstring) is back in training, Ozil (knee) is back in training and Flamini (groin) is back in training. We’ve got three players back. Welbeck (thigh) is still not available for Sunday because he is a bit short. Maybe next week he will be available. Giroud is back from suspension. So we have a bigger squad than last week.

    on when Ozil could play…
He will have a training session on Friday with the squad. He will certainly be available for selection on Sunday. Will I start him or not? I haven’t decided yet.

Ozil will be a great addition once he is fit. Sanchez left, Ozil/Cazorla centrally, Walcott right.
I think he wasnt that successful due to the lack of runners on the wings.

Still no sign of a big bruiser of a midfielder yet?

I never thought I would ask this, but which Villa defender, no budget required?

Obviously Hutton is the budget favourite that I may keep past my wildcard, but who is the best?

    Bonus points?
    Goal threat?

With all the talk about a supposed deal for Messi to come to the PL which, for the record, I don't think will happen. Do people think Messi will preform either better or worse in the PL than he did in La Liga. Personally I don't think he'll be as good, just due to the fact that he will find the PL a lot more physical-I have horrific visions of him encountering the Stoke City wrestling team... I can see Costa scoring in the next 2 certainly. I don't have him and it's my biggest concern. After that a double up on Chelsea's defence looks very rewarding - aside from the Citeh game I can't see Chelsea conceding in the next 10 lol.

    Sky game:

Season long from now (dont want waste transfers)

    PVA or Pognoli

PVA seems relatively risk free but Pog if first choice under Pullis could get more points right?
