Mesut Ozil and Aaron Ramsey are back for Arsenal. Leighton Baines is expected to return for Everton’s home clash with City, though Sylvain Distin is ruled out for the Merseysiders. Villa skipper Ron Vlaar is out for up to six weeks with a knee injury. Tim Krul is expected to return for Newcastle’s weekend trip to Stamford Bridge, Brendan Rodgers hopes to have Daniel Sturridge back at some point this month, whilst Marouane Chamakh could be set to return for Palace.

Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey and Mathieu Flamini are all available for Arsenal’s clash with Stoke after returning to training, though Danny Welbeck has been ruled out by Arsene Wenger.

Robert Martinez has ruled Sylvain Distin out of the visit of Man City this weekend, with the defender picking up a groin problem against the Hammers in midweek. Elsewhere, the Blues boss has confirmed that Leighton Baines missed the midweek tie with a knock, though is expected to be fully fit for the weekend.

Aston Villa have been rocked by the news that captain Ron Vlaar will miss the next four to six weeks of action with a knee injury. Meanwhile, Nathan Baker, Kieran Richardson and Gabby Agbonlahor are all expected to return in time for the trip to Leicester.

Tim Krul made his return from injury for Newcastle’s behind-closed-doors friendly against Celtic on Thursday evening. The Dutch stopper played 45 minutes, and went on to reveal that he feels good and hopes to be in contention for the meeting with Chelsea on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Daniel Sturridge is in the final stages of his recovery, and hopes the striker will be available again “at some point in January.”

Leicester midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has been ruled out of the weekend visit of Villa through injury, after the Argentine was withdrawn early on in the Foxes’ cup victory over Newcastle last week. In more positive news, fellow midfielder Danny Drinkwater may be in contention to train on Friday having come off injured against Liverpool, whilst Dean Hammond and Andy King have both made a return to training ahead of the weekend visit of Aston Villa.

Burnley skipper Jason Shackell will hope to prove his fitness in time for the weekend, after missing the midweek tie against Spurs with a calf injury. Clarets boss Sean Dyche is optimistic that the defender will train with the squad today, and is expected to make a judgement call on the skipper’s availability for the weekend. Fellow centre-back Michael Duff has also returned to training following injury, and will also be looking to prove his fitness ahead of the visit of QPR.

Alan Pardew could be handed a boost for his first home match in charge of Palace, with reports indicating that Marouane Chamakh could be set to make the squad for the visit of Tottenham.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Andre Schurrle deserves more game-time then what he gets at Chelsea.

    Agree with my statement?

this is because he gets so less minutes...give him 2-3 match start and then he will perform..

He's probably one of those players that needs to feel loved, rather than thrown in with 20 minutes to go and asked to bail Chelsea out of trouble with a goal.

Regular starts would bring consistency, imo.

You have a January wildcard to use between now and end of GW 23 (The January Wildcard can only be used after Gameweek 20 starts (1 Jan 11:30) until Gameweek 23 ends (7 Feb 11:30).

So you could make a riskier transfer knowing you can rebuild your whole squad soon.

Any Advice for my WC team?

    Krul/Foster
    Hutton/Jones/Wisdom/Alderweild/Wasileski
    ADM/Boyd/Hazard/Sterling/Sanchez
    Pelle/Kane/Aguero

Il prob bring costa/rvp in for two weeks until aguero starting.

    struggling with starting line up.

Help me pick 2 from 4 please.

    O Shea - Liv (h) - clean sheets recently & liverpool inconsistent
Moreno - Sun (a) - don't keep clean sheets though Sunderland attack not scary, attacking potential
Baines - Mci (a) - non existent clean sheet potential, attacking potential
Wisdom - Hull (h) - Tony Pulis, Hull not scary

    thoughts?

Trying to sort out my WC defence. think im gonna stick with Foster & krul in goal but which back 5 is the better choice:-

A – Bertrand, Terry, Hutton, PVA, Duff – therefore playing Bert & Terry every week & rotating the 3rd depending on fixture

    or

B – Azpi, Alderweireld, P Jones, Hutton , PVA – therefore playing the big 3 most games & the other 2 in case of injuries etc….

I’m liking A at the moment, however Utd have some good CS opportunities coming up & could tighten up with Blind coming back.

    Thoughts anyone?

I'm playing Baines over Hutton, especially with Vlaar out and it being a midlands derby. I'd never bench Baines anyway.

Lol, I'm also starting Clichy over Naylor as I think West Ham carry more of a goal threat than Everton.

I'm also benching Mirallas and Naylor. Could maybe bring in Mirallas for Downing, he always makes me nervous when I see him on my bench, even against Man City.

If I had around 8m for a mid, I'd be tempted, but I had to get shot of Yaya this week and felt ADM would be the safer pick with qpr and LEI on this horizon.

    Which three

    Zaba, Hutton, Trippier, Lescott, Moreno.

Dont normally post these, but I have unfortunately got 5 defenders with decent fixtures! Probably going to bite me next week.

      Zaba Trippier Hutton

These have the most chance of points, though it's tough alright...

Its pre WC fever, I've had nothing better to do than pointlessly bring in defenders with good fixtures. I now wish I hadnt

Sunderland are strong defensively at home, and Hull will be no pushovers, regardless of the Pulis factor, so the other 3 for me look sound picks...

Zaba - Poor everton against a frustrated home crowd
Trippier - QPR away. Nuff said
Hutton - Leic missing key players and has 1-0 Villa all over it.

Blimey, that is tough as you have a lot of attacking possibility for each too.

Trippier, Hutton, Lescott (Zabs, Moreno) would be my order. Zabs will be up against Baines and Mirallas so should be too worried trying to avoid too many yellows to be able to get forward often. Sunderland will be up for it in a live early kick off.

Disagree with Hutton being a good pick this week in a midlands derby, I'm benching him. I'd go Zaba, Trippier and Lescott.

It'll be a tight affair though won't it, the derby. 1-0 either way at most. I'm playing Hamer and Hutton, to hopefully get one clean sheet.

If you have Trippier you should play him this week cause if not now when...
Zaba should be safe to play this game and good offensive threat against a weak defense.
Then I´d choose Lescott, also rested in cup and one of the highest scoring defenders in premier league history

    C. Bertrand (man)

    A. Boydinho (QPR)
    B. Downing (swa)

    Cheers.

Will be wildcarding next week, but am I mad in thinking Zabaleta and Dummett --> Joleon Lescott and Wes Morgan is a good idea for just this week?

I have 2 FTs, so it won’t cost me anything.

    Thoughts?

Nice, though you've missed alot of Alexis points and value. Maybe consider Cazorla/Walcott/Ramsey as good differentials

Carzola would be the only guaranteed one out of those players. Ramsey and Theo just back from injury. Still have me WC for a couple of weeks time, so easy to change around.

Too close to call that. I brought in ADM for Yaya, and had Cazorla for a few weeks before he went and scored 3 in 2 weeks, so I like both picks.
