[sbu_large_image] Fixtures

After casting an eye on those teams with strong upcoming schedules, we now assess those with punishing fixtures over the next four to six Gameweeks. West Ham and Liverpool are set for testing times, whilst promoted pair Leicester and Burnley also have little reason for optimism.

West Ham

“frisking

A 3-0 win over Hull precedes a vile run of fixtures that is surely set to test the Hammers’ ambitions of a top six finish. Trips to Liverpool, Southampton and Spurs, in addition to home encounters with Man United and Chelsea, suggest the Upton Park outfit will struggle to improve upon a run which has harvested just two shut-outs in the previous nine.

Stewart Downing’s weekend strike took him to fourth in the Fantasy Premier League midfield standings but the 27%-owned playmaker could have a task on his hands to retain that lofty position, having blanked in three of his last five. With Diafra Sakho still injured, Andy Carroll looks key here – with five goals in the previous eight, he’s ticked over nicely for Sam Allardyce’s side but his form could come unstuck in light of such a schedule.

Leicester

“frisking

After losing at home to Stoke last weekend, Nigel Pearson is preparing to batten down the hatches as the fixtures turn against his struggling side. Visits to United, Arsenal, Everton and City, coupled with home clashes against Palace and Chelsea, indicates the task at hand.

With playmaker Riyad Mahrez off on international duties with Algeria, the pickings are slim-to-none amongst Pearson’s regulars right now. Jeffrey Schlupp’s out-of-position appeal has seen the defender notch three times from his spot on the left flank, but in spite of a kind 4.5 price tag, his short-term prospects seem limited. Leonardo Ulloa remains the Foxes’ top scorer despite netting just twice since Gameweek 5 and with two sub appearances in the last three, the Argentine’s minutes are looking far from certain right now.

Liverpool

“frisking

The Reds prepare for a tough run of fixtures on the back of a six-match unbeaten streak that has served up a trio of clean sheets along the way. Brendan Rodgers requires more of the same solidity as his side square up to West Ham, Everton, Spurs, Southampton and City in the next five Gameweeks, which is sure to test their mettle at both ends of the pitch.

Martin Skrtel’s threat in the box and bonus point potential (15 so far) makes him Liverpool’s most reliable defender to date, though the recent switch to a 3-4-2-1 set-up has brought Alberto Moreno onto the radar as a left-sided wing-back – at 5.1, he’s cheaper than the Slovakian (5.8) but may have to rely on attacking returns in light of that schedule. In midfield, Raheem Sterling has earned points in three of his last four but he may struggle to stay in contention unless Daniel Sturridge can make a swift recovery to reignite his short-term appeal.

Be Wary Of..

Burnley
After their weekend collapse at home to Palace, Sean Dyche’s side have a tough task to steer clear of the drop zone. Up next, the Clarets face Sunderland and West Brom’s resilient backlines before a horrendous trio of road trips sees them pay visit to United, Chelsea and Liverpool. Kieran Trippier grabbed his second assist of the season but faith in Burnley’s defence looks set to plummet for now. George Boyd looks set to be confined to bench-warming duties for Fantasy owners, whilst those holding the consistent Danny Ings will surely be looking for an alternative budget forward for their front three.

Everton
The Toffees approach a tricky run of fixtures in poor form at both ends of the pitch. Roberto Martinez’ men have failed to score in five of their last eight and have mustered a single clean sheet in 12 Gameweeks – with a trip to resurgent Palace preceding clashes against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, only a Gameweek 26 home match with Leicester offers any degree of comfort. Leighton Baines’ owners will likely be reliant on attacking returns to keep him in contention, whilst a single goal in ten sums up Romelu Lukaku’s toils up top.

Tottenham
After a slip-up at Palace, Mauricio Pochettino’s team are back on track after seeing off Sunderland at the Lane last Saturday. Spurs have now won five of their last seven and, as the New Year’s Day win over Chelsea highlighted, can be a match for anyone on their day. Up next, though, a trip to the Hawthorns is followed by back-to-back showdowns against three of the top eight (ARS, liv, WHM), and whilst our faith in a defence with two clean sheets in 15 is minimal at best, those holding more than one of Harry Kane, Nacer Chadli and/or Christian Eriksen may look to spread their coverage as the schedule stiffens.

I'd say no. Punt on someone similarly priced on WC and get him later on. I tend to go fixtures over form.

Maybe keep him if you have a LOT of vault tied up on him

He's 6.6 atm, so I think if you sold it'd be for good

For that price the only options worth considering are

Since one of them was mine...I'll admit I haven't properly looked at fixtures yet as I'm wildcarding week 24. Easier for me as I've never had downing this year so I can go a bit longer without

Yeah it makes it easier. I'm WC'ing this week and dumping Adrian in the process.

Terry tends to get more goals, maybe slightly less prone to rotation.

Ivan is very attacking and has a chance of assists as well as goals.

It seems Cahill is nailed on right?...why did he miss the newcastle game? The extra 0.3 could be useful elsewhere. just saying.

As I understand it I think zouma was just given a game. You could see it as Cahill has had his 'rotating' game so it's Terry's turn.....I see it as terry is undroppable and if mourinho wants to play zouma every now and again, Cahill will be benched again

I've finally worked out my problem with Costa. I will always captain Hazard over him. Not to mention Sanchez and Kun. So out of the "big four" I'd rank him No.4 for captain material. The reason for that is plan and simply because he's most likely to get booked/sent off out of those four. So for that reason, 11.2 seems like madness for a player I'll never captain.

That's just me obviously, but I feel safer in myself now I've finally reached an adequate justification...

yeah only because Jose has told him to calm down (and put disgraceful pressue on refs not to book him) - that'll die down in another week or so. Plus like Rupert the Horse (seriously, that's your name?) says - he gets much less bonus than those four.

Can you make a case for ranking him higher in that fourball than 4th?

that's fair enough. I just think getting all four of those in your team at any one time kills the rest of your squad too much to justify it - however if you got say sanchez/costa/hazard cheap and never taken them out that does change it slightly

All this debate around essential and big hitters boils down to whether you would captain them or not. So who are the top 3 to 5 captain material players who then could become essential.

    For me:

    Hazard (at home?!)
    Aguero (when fit)
    Sanchez
    Costa (maybe)

      Haz
      Agüero
      Sanchez
      In Form United Forward
      Sterling (maybe)

Pretty much but there will be very few games when one of Aguero, Sanchez and Hazard won't be captainable.

I can only see 3 GWs between now and the end of the end of the season

GW27 (lei) GW30 (hul) and GW33 (qpr) are the only GWs where Costa looks the standout option to me. I don't have him and not sure that's worth 11.2

Interesting. So tempting to go without him for many reasons and you've highlighted another ie if you have Hazard you wouldnt captain Costa anyway. Plenty to ponder on.

Why does English Media include Manchester United's name in every transfer rumour? whether for Messi or for MK Dons Midfielder Dele Alli...

        Defooooooooooooooooe

watch, everyone will be doing Kane > Defoe in 2 weeks 😉

cheap, nailed, great fixtures, pens, Prem proven..what's not to like!?:)

he's not fit, for me he's past it, he's not on pens.

Would go Bojan over him in a heartbeat, and I'm one of Bojan's biggest critics.

Poyet came out after the Spurs game and said he's on pens. I think the quote was something like

"It's frustrating Jermain was denied an obvious penalty as he would have scored it, and we'd have a different game"

Well that will probably prove to be a negative then for Defoe if it's true. He's gawd awful

that would surprise me. But still wouldn't make me consider him, he'd only miss them.

Maybe we misinterpret what he said, maybe he means he would've scored from the chance before he was fouled 😉

not sure where you get that he's on pens. Johnson hasn't missed one recently, and he's behind Gomez in the pecking order who's got an even better record on pens.

Defoe on the other hand is sh*t at pens

Huh? Seems like a pointless statement to me. You obviously have Hazard so really it's Oscar you need to cover the points. Good luck with that lol

about 2 games less worth of playing time and Oscar is only 14 points behind Costa..Costa's last haul was only the 2nd time he broke 7 points since September..

I also feel another injury and that 2 game ban is around the corner
