After casting an eye on those teams with strong upcoming schedules, we now assess those with punishing fixtures over the next four to six Gameweeks. West Ham and Liverpool are set for testing times, whilst promoted pair Leicester and Burnley also have little reason for optimism.

West Ham

“frisking

A 3-0 win over Hull precedes a vile run of fixtures that is surely set to test the Hammers’ ambitions of a top six finish. Trips to Liverpool, Southampton and Spurs, in addition to home encounters with Man United and Chelsea, suggest the Upton Park outfit will struggle to improve upon a run which has harvested just two shut-outs in the previous nine.

Stewart Downing’s weekend strike took him to fourth in the Fantasy Premier League midfield standings but the 27%-owned playmaker could have a task on his hands to retain that lofty position, having blanked in three of his last five. With Diafra Sakho still injured, Andy Carroll looks key here – with five goals in the previous eight, he’s ticked over nicely for Sam Allardyce’s side but his form could come unstuck in light of such a schedule.

Leicester

“frisking

After losing at home to Stoke last weekend, Nigel Pearson is preparing to batten down the hatches as the fixtures turn against his struggling side. Visits to United, Arsenal, Everton and City, coupled with home clashes against Palace and Chelsea, indicates the task at hand.

With playmaker Riyad Mahrez off on international duties with Algeria, the pickings are slim-to-none amongst Pearson’s regulars right now. Jeffrey Schlupp’s out-of-position appeal has seen the defender notch three times from his spot on the left flank, but in spite of a kind 4.5 price tag, his short-term prospects seem limited. Leonardo Ulloa remains the Foxes’ top scorer despite netting just twice since Gameweek 5 and with two sub appearances in the last three, the Argentine’s minutes are looking far from certain right now.

Liverpool

“frisking

The Reds prepare for a tough run of fixtures on the back of a six-match unbeaten streak that has served up a trio of clean sheets along the way. Brendan Rodgers requires more of the same solidity as his side square up to West Ham, Everton, Spurs, Southampton and City in the next five Gameweeks, which is sure to test their mettle at both ends of the pitch.

Martin Skrtel’s threat in the box and bonus point potential (15 so far) makes him Liverpool’s most reliable defender to date, though the recent switch to a 3-4-2-1 set-up has brought Alberto Moreno onto the radar as a left-sided wing-back – at 5.1, he’s cheaper than the Slovakian (5.8) but may have to rely on attacking returns in light of that schedule. In midfield, Raheem Sterling has earned points in three of his last four but he may struggle to stay in contention unless Daniel Sturridge can make a swift recovery to reignite his short-term appeal.

Be Wary Of..

Burnley
After their weekend collapse at home to Palace, Sean Dyche’s side have a tough task to steer clear of the drop zone. Up next, the Clarets face Sunderland and West Brom’s resilient backlines before a horrendous trio of road trips sees them pay visit to United, Chelsea and Liverpool. Kieran Trippier grabbed his second assist of the season but faith in Burnley’s defence looks set to plummet for now. George Boyd looks set to be confined to bench-warming duties for Fantasy owners, whilst those holding the consistent Danny Ings will surely be looking for an alternative budget forward for their front three.

Everton
The Toffees approach a tricky run of fixtures in poor form at both ends of the pitch. Roberto Martinez’ men have failed to score in five of their last eight and have mustered a single clean sheet in 12 Gameweeks – with a trip to resurgent Palace preceding clashes against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, only a Gameweek 26 home match with Leicester offers any degree of comfort. Leighton Baines’ owners will likely be reliant on attacking returns to keep him in contention, whilst a single goal in ten sums up Romelu Lukaku’s toils up top.

Tottenham
After a slip-up at Palace, Mauricio Pochettino’s team are back on track after seeing off Sunderland at the Lane last Saturday. Spurs have now won five of their last seven and, as the New Year’s Day win over Chelsea highlighted, can be a match for anyone on their day. Up next, though, a trip to the Hawthorns is followed by back-to-back showdowns against three of the top eight (ARS, liv, WHM), and whilst our faith in a defence with two clean sheets in 15 is minimal at best, those holding more than one of Harry Kane, Nacer Chadli and/or Christian Eriksen may look to spread their coverage as the schedule stiffens.

    GW23.

    1.7M | 1FT | 2WC

This is how it stands with no changes:

    Pantilimon
    Ivanovic | Baines | Wisdom
    Sanchez (C) | Hazard | Silva | Chadli
    Costa (V) | Austin | Ings

    Sigurdsson | Taylor | Hutton

I have quite a lot of players against each other which makes me nervous:

    Wisdom | Chadli
    Ivanovic | Silva
    Pantilimon | Ings

I'd like a 1FT/-4 move that helps to alleviate this problem, whilst maximising points for G23 only; I'll be hitting the WC button after that obviously.

Any love for one of these three moves?

    a) SAFETY FIRST... Silva --> Di Maria
    b) PUNT TASTIC... Silva --> Elia, Ings --> Falcao (-4)
    c) EGGS IN ONE BASKET... Silva --> Cazorla, Ings --> Giroud (-4)

"...his form has dropped in the last 2 games."

This is silly. I assume you mean his FPL form but that is something that doesn't exist. His form on the field is what counts. Sometimes a player can do really well and it isn't reflected in FPL points. Other times a player can get lucky and score a bundle of FPL points without playing particularly well. FPL is an imprecise modelling of what goes on in any game and it can't be otherwise.

Expecting consistency in FPL returns is a road to frustration. A good player will accrue points. He might not do it to suit you though.

Finally getting myself an avatar. So here's a quick quiz on who it will be, lets see if anyone can answer correctly!

Fact 1: Played for Newcastle United, Aston Villa, West Ham United, Leicester City, Hull City and Hartlepool United in English football.

Fact 2: Made 95 international appearances for his South American Country.

Finally, arguably his most famous goal was with the inside of his right boot.

OK cracked it.....well until I change it again. Its GW27 proof too.

    Pants - Krul (rotate)
    P Jones - Clyne - Terry
    Hazard - Sanchez - ADM - Puncheon
    Aguero - Giroud - Kane
    Bench: JWP PVA Wisdom
    £0.7 ITB

What would you change or overall does it cut the french mustard?

    1. Nolberto Solano
      • 14 Years
      11 years, 1 month ago

      A) I would downgrade Krul to Mannone or 4.0 keeper.
      B) Downgrade Wisdom to Baird (if you are buying Wisd at 4.5)
      C) Use spare money to upgrade elsewhere (Giroud maybe)

I suppose even with those downgrades you cant afford Costa? I just think last week was a reminder of what Costa has to offer as the leading striker for the likely Premier League champions.

yea I get that point but giroud is around 8mil and costa around 11.5 so he'd have to do a lot more downgrading, e.g. really weak defence without che or sth. to afford him, wouldn't he? I think below 10mil giroud might be the best option atm...

              • 14 Years
              11 years, 1 month ago

Yes I would agree that Giroud is the best mid price option striker right now. There is a 3mil difference between the two which is massive. I have the luxury of a high TV and having had Costa from the start

Im in this space too. So hard to look beyond him at the moment. The money you have if you ditch Costa for him allows improvements all over the place. I wont captain Costa anyway as I have Hazard so not an issue.

Ta. Decided to have 2 playing keeps. Got caught out with Kruliot! Worried about Bairds playing time and I got Wisdom cheap. Giroud is my punt - main striker with good fixtures, good price and ahead of that Arsenal midfield. Too tempting.

Kane may become Berahino or Bojan - dont know yet. High ownership of Kane means I may default to him first - Im in top 5k. ADM is a punt and one less Chelse for GW27. LVG might start playing him in position so one to ponder.

Here's just a brief explanation. Fuller details, analysis should follow if I get the time.

It's all about allocation of limited funds to maximise points. The extra points you get for the spending in defence and midfield are higher than those you get up front. For example, upgrading Chadli to Sanchez gets you 8.9pts per million. Upgrading Berahino to Costa gets you 5.4pts per million.

It remains to be seen whether or not I will act on this knowledge.

He can't have because the rest of the season didn't happen yet. 😉

For what it's worth, personally I think there is only one essential player for the rest of the season. Sanchez. Tough as nails, rarely injured, wants to play every game and because he's Arsenal's best player Arsene will probably let him. Added to which he's really a forward getting midfielder bonuses.

In my opinion you also need one of Aguero and Costa. One of those plus Sanchez and you pretty much have the captaincy sorted.

Everything else after that is a matter of value and form/fixtures.

Plenty of booing for Adebayor last night? What he do?

Kane going back up top? Barndoor and Loldado are gash.

On a side note I dont get why Townsend took the pen. Soldado is more than capable and needs a few goals

Like your comment, I was thinking of going with Puncheon till Mané is back , so then is A out of my price range. I own ADM at the moment, but Cazorla-Sanchez looks like a nice Arsenal duo, so my real question is:

After the Leicester game, should I stick with ADM or bring in Cazorla/Sterling?

Depends if you will captain Costa in some games. If yes, I'd do it. If not then Cesc will probably deliver as good a points/price value as Costa over the remaining 16 games, if not better.

Nr.1 OR captaincy stats(Costa twice and Sanchez once)

    Agüero (6 times - 106 points - average 17.7 points)
    Rooney (4 times - 46 points - average 11.5 points)
    Hazard (4 times - 72 points - average 18 points)
    Costa (2 times - 24 points - average 12 points)
    Austin (2 times - 38 points - average 19 points)
    Sánchez (1 times - 20 points - average 20 points)
    Silva (1 times - 4 points - average 4 points)
    Kane (1 times - 4 points - average 4 points)
    Di María (1 times - 2 points - average 2 points)

The best way to rise in rank.

Sort your team out on sunday night for the next GW, and then spend the week laughing at everyone on here. Anything else and you just end up going with the herd which quite often is wrong.

Yes I have experienced this, especially when it comes to captaincy. So often I captain a player at the start of the week, then change it, and the player I had originally is the one I should have gone with

I tend to do mine as soon as FPL re-opens before anything has had a chance to influence me.
