After casting an eye on those teams with strong upcoming schedules, we now assess those with punishing fixtures over the next four to six Gameweeks. West Ham and Liverpool are set for testing times, whilst promoted pair Leicester and Burnley also have little reason for optimism.

West Ham

“frisking

A 3-0 win over Hull precedes a vile run of fixtures that is surely set to test the Hammers’ ambitions of a top six finish. Trips to Liverpool, Southampton and Spurs, in addition to home encounters with Man United and Chelsea, suggest the Upton Park outfit will struggle to improve upon a run which has harvested just two shut-outs in the previous nine.

Stewart Downing’s weekend strike took him to fourth in the Fantasy Premier League midfield standings but the 27%-owned playmaker could have a task on his hands to retain that lofty position, having blanked in three of his last five. With Diafra Sakho still injured, Andy Carroll looks key here – with five goals in the previous eight, he’s ticked over nicely for Sam Allardyce’s side but his form could come unstuck in light of such a schedule.

Leicester

“frisking

After losing at home to Stoke last weekend, Nigel Pearson is preparing to batten down the hatches as the fixtures turn against his struggling side. Visits to United, Arsenal, Everton and City, coupled with home clashes against Palace and Chelsea, indicates the task at hand.

With playmaker Riyad Mahrez off on international duties with Algeria, the pickings are slim-to-none amongst Pearson’s regulars right now. Jeffrey Schlupp’s out-of-position appeal has seen the defender notch three times from his spot on the left flank, but in spite of a kind 4.5 price tag, his short-term prospects seem limited. Leonardo Ulloa remains the Foxes’ top scorer despite netting just twice since Gameweek 5 and with two sub appearances in the last three, the Argentine’s minutes are looking far from certain right now.

Liverpool

“frisking

The Reds prepare for a tough run of fixtures on the back of a six-match unbeaten streak that has served up a trio of clean sheets along the way. Brendan Rodgers requires more of the same solidity as his side square up to West Ham, Everton, Spurs, Southampton and City in the next five Gameweeks, which is sure to test their mettle at both ends of the pitch.

Martin Skrtel’s threat in the box and bonus point potential (15 so far) makes him Liverpool’s most reliable defender to date, though the recent switch to a 3-4-2-1 set-up has brought Alberto Moreno onto the radar as a left-sided wing-back – at 5.1, he’s cheaper than the Slovakian (5.8) but may have to rely on attacking returns in light of that schedule. In midfield, Raheem Sterling has earned points in three of his last four but he may struggle to stay in contention unless Daniel Sturridge can make a swift recovery to reignite his short-term appeal.

Be Wary Of..

Burnley
After their weekend collapse at home to Palace, Sean Dyche’s side have a tough task to steer clear of the drop zone. Up next, the Clarets face Sunderland and West Brom’s resilient backlines before a horrendous trio of road trips sees them pay visit to United, Chelsea and Liverpool. Kieran Trippier grabbed his second assist of the season but faith in Burnley’s defence looks set to plummet for now. George Boyd looks set to be confined to bench-warming duties for Fantasy owners, whilst those holding the consistent Danny Ings will surely be looking for an alternative budget forward for their front three.

Everton
The Toffees approach a tricky run of fixtures in poor form at both ends of the pitch. Roberto Martinez’ men have failed to score in five of their last eight and have mustered a single clean sheet in 12 Gameweeks – with a trip to resurgent Palace preceding clashes against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, only a Gameweek 26 home match with Leicester offers any degree of comfort. Leighton Baines’ owners will likely be reliant on attacking returns to keep him in contention, whilst a single goal in ten sums up Romelu Lukaku’s toils up top.

Tottenham
After a slip-up at Palace, Mauricio Pochettino’s team are back on track after seeing off Sunderland at the Lane last Saturday. Spurs have now won five of their last seven and, as the New Year’s Day win over Chelsea highlighted, can be a match for anyone on their day. Up next, though, a trip to the Hawthorns is followed by back-to-back showdowns against three of the top eight (ARS, liv, WHM), and whilst our faith in a defence with two clean sheets in 15 is minimal at best, those holding more than one of Harry Kane, Nacer Chadli and/or Christian Eriksen may look to spread their coverage as the schedule stiffens.

I'm going without a Chelsea defender in my wildcard because:

-it leaves the option for Fabregas/Oscar to be my third Chelsea attacker
-I can only see them keeping 1-2 cleansheets in the next 3 gameweeks
-cheaper defenders rotated well can provide the same value allowing you to upgrade your attack

Hopefully Terry and Ivanovic get a rest soon 🙂

City at home will be tough.
Villa (A) should be a cleansheet.
Everton v Chelsea was 6-3 last time. Might be high scoring again.

    How is this wildcard team?

    Pantilimon, Krul
    Terry, Bertrand, PVA, Baird, Hutton
Hazard, Sanchez, Di Maria, Silva, Puncheon
    Aguero, Kane, Berahino

    1.2m ITB

Berahino and Puncheon rotate well together.
Can do ADM/Silva, Berahino -> Boyd, Costa if Costa keeps performing.

For a 5.9M striker (most got him a lot cheaper) Kane sure does have high expectations. Sure, Adebayor is a concern regarding Kane's output but I honestly think it's best to wait it out and see what happens.

    Evening everyone.

Here's an interesting statistical look at the some popular Forward and Midfielder picks ranked by points per minute played. The top 10 are shown below:

    Midfield

Mins played PL Total points Points per minute(ppm)

    Sánchez 1760 144 0.08182
    Oscar 1413 105 0.07431
    Chadli 1399 102 0.072909
    Silva 1322 90 0.068079
    Hazard 1936 131 0.067665
    Fabregas 1847 120 0.06497
    Downing 1872 116 0.061966
    Eriksen 1815 111 0.061157
    Sigurdssen 1756 104 0.059226
    Cazorla 1682 92 0.0547

    Forwards

Mins played PL Total points Points per minute(ppm)

    Agüero 1164 107 0.091924
    Kane 1166 90 0.077187
    Costa 1590 119 0.074843
    Bony 1296 84 0.064815
    Giroud* 620 42 0.067742
    Falcao* 694 46 0.066282
    Austin 1731 109 0.062969
    Berahino 1652 88 0.053269
    Rooney 1575 83 0.052698
    Ings 1626 81 0.049815

    *Less than 1000 minutes played.

From this, we can see that the two premium forwards Aguero and Costa have one of the top 3 highest ppm's. The mid-price forwards Bony and Giroud are doing well but with the former's recent move to City and the latter's lack of minutes, we can not make fair comparisons. Kane is the stand out pick of the budget forwards the second highest ppm of the forwards, higher than Costa!

There's no surprise that Sanchez is top of the midfield standings but it's interesting to see Oscar and Chadli so high up!

Anyway, let me know what you all think 🙂

I'll see if I can add some more data and make a bigger article.

          Thanks!

Nice, thanks. I like the points per minute analysis too - only thing is that sometimes the minutes part is down to rotation which makes it hard to use the players (like Dzeko when he comes on for 10 mins per game and scores one in five times - tough to own and play through all of that).

Good point. I have tried to accommodate for this by only
Looking at players who have over 1000 minutes game time. Giroud and Falcao we included because they seem like popular picks so I wanted to see how they did compared to others.

I feel bad getting Chadli out my team now! Got Aguero, Costa and Kane though.

      Might do:

Di Maria>Silva and Cazorla>Oscar for a hit next week if they both do bad.

Got bottomed out on the last page!

    Panti (Hamer)
    Terry Ivanovic Clyne (PvA Baird)
    ADM Sanchez Hazard Silva Boyd
    Aguero Kane Austin

    1 FT, 0.1m ITB.

    A) Ivanovic/Terry -> Bellerin & Austin -> Giroud (-4).
    B) Ivanovic/Terry -> Bellerin.

Also, who would you drop? Ivanovic or Terry?

Any other suggestions would also be welcome!

Ivanovic has hit some nice form but 7.2M is a bit steep. I'd probably get rid of him. A for me. You'll want him for the Leicester (H) in GW25.

Well, I could get him in for that without the -4 as well. If I go B, I would likely bring in Giroud later anyway.

Is he worth the -4 hit is the question?

Also, is it worth dropping Austin? He's had horrible finishing lately but has had a ridiculous number of shots Essentially a hit brings in Bellerin & Giroud vs AVL in place of Ivanovic (MCI) & Austin (sto). Worth it?

No, keep Austin then. Still a great FPL option despite the exodus. If you're feeling riskier getting Giroud in now is also an option though.

            Austin's next few fixtures are
            Stoke(A) - tough
            Southampton(H) - not great
            Sunderland(A) - tough
            Hull(A) - decent
            Spurs(H) - decent
            Arsenal(H) - not great

But somehow I am still not convinced to sell him- probably due to the fact that I got him early plus he is on pens.

Kos seems like a great pick - but he doesn't give me enough cash to upgrade to Giroud. Miss him by 0.5m in that case. I'd make this move in a heartbeat, I'm worried only because of Bellerin's suspect game time.

I have 5.4m to spend if I get Giroud (or 4.8 if I get rid of Terry). I could get any of Monreal/Chambers/Gibbs/Bellerin - the question is who would be best?

I'm going through this debate as well. I can get one of Chambers/Bellerin/Monreal/Gibbs + Giroud instead of Ivanovic/Terry + Austin.

Don't know if I can pick any one with guaranteed starts. Why Chambers though? Way I see it, Wenger trusted Bellerin against City (which would be the toughest game possible) and Bellerin is natural RB while Chambers is more of a CB. Infact, Chambers will probably spell Kos/Per in one game or another.

Chances of Chelsea keeping a cleansheet these games you think? They have a remarkable home record.

City (H) - against the best attack in the league but they're at home
Villa (A) - Villa can't score for save their life. I think it's a given CS
Everton (H) - Everton has looked very poor BUT the fixture had 3 Everton goals in it last time

I'd go for PvA, Trippier, Wisdom

Wisdom under Tony Pulis is very likely to get some important clean sheet points, and this is esp true for away games. as for Trippier and PvA their fixtures rotate well and both have some attacking potential, the underlying stats will show you that.

      Hope this helps 🙂

if there was no more transfer activity, how worried are you on a scale of 1-10 (10 being most worried) that the following won't start regularly:

    A) Baird

I think I'm getting towards a WC team I like. Toying with differentials, but nothing has yet convinced me to smash open the template:

    Panti - 4 mil
    Terry - Fonte - Jones - Bellerin - Baird

    Aguero - Austin - Kane

    0 itb.

Bellerin -> PvA immediately if he doesn't play next GW. Plus, if I manage to go horribly wrong, I still have my original WC left.
