Robin van Persie is back for United’s clash with Cambridge tonight. Brendan Rodgers is set to ring the changes as Liverpool host Bolton at Anfield, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Hector Bellerin are doubts for Arsenal, Adam Johnson is a concern for Sunderland’s home match with Fulham, whilst West Brom have worries over James Morrison.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (groin) and Hector Bellerin (ankle) are both set for late fitness tests ahead of Arsenal’s cup clash with Brighton on Sunday, Arsene Wenger has revealed. The Gunners boss has also confirmed that Mesut Ozil is likely to start, though Danny Welbeck remains sidelined through injury.

James Morrison is a weekend doubt for West Brom’s cup clash with midlands rivals Birmingham, Tony Pulis has revealed. The Baggies boss has also confirmed he’s keen to bring Wigan wide man Callum McManaman and United’s Darren Fletcher to the Hawthorns before the end of the transfer window.

Frank Lampard could be set to miss City’s showdown with Middlesbrough tomorrow but is expected to be out for only “two to three days”, meaning he’ll be available to face former club Chelsea next weekend.

Mario Balotelli, Joe Allen and Glen Johnson are all available for Liverpool’s home encounter with Bolton this weekend. With a Capital One Cup semi-final second-leg against Chelsea to follow in midweek, Brendan Rodgers has confirmed he’s likely to make some alterations tomorrow.

“I think the players on the outside who haven’t been playing as much see clearly how the team functions and how well it has done so. But we’ve been able to work more in training, so it means those coming into that are into a system and way of working that suits them well. It’s always a balance between consistency and rotation, but it’s something we’re comfortable with. We’ll make changes this weekend, but it shouldn’t disrupt the flow of our play.”

Alan Pardew has confirmed that Marouane Chamakh is available for Palace’s clash with Southampton. The Eagles boss – who has been linked with a move for Bolton’s Lee Chung-Yong this week – has admitted he’s uncertain over Wilfried Zaha’s long-term future at the club:

“I am not sure about that option [making Zaha a permanent player]. What I do know is that he is a player who needs to get his career on the move again. He’s had a decent couple of games, he’s made an impact and he needs to build on that. That is where he’s at. He’s a talent who needs to nail down a permanent position, whether on loan or as a permanent signing, but I have been very pleased with what I have seen so far.”

Sunderland assistant boss Charlie Oatway deputised for Gus Poyet during yesterday’s press briefing and revealed the Black Cats are likely to be missing a trio of players ahead of their home clash with Fulham:

“There are one or two issues on the injury front. Adam (Johnson) has a bit of a calf problem, Wes (Brown) has a knock to his knee and Lee (Cattermole) has also got a bit of a problem with his knee. We are still monitoring those. Lee will be struggling for the weekend but it is not a major concern. We are confident he will be ready for next week.”

Robin van Persie has recovered from an ankle problem, whilst Luke Shaw has also been passed fit ahead of United’s clash with Cambridge this evening. Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling are both ruled out, though, and join Ashley Young on the treatment table.

Ronald Koeman remains without Morgan Schneiderlin, Victor Wanyama and Toby Alderweireld for Southampton’s match against Palace, though is optimistic on the trio’s chances of returning in the next fortnight:

“They are doing well, but they need time. When they got the injuries we said it’d be about three or four weeks, so that means there’s another two weeks from now until they’ll normally be back to play. Of course, we’d like to have all of our players available and maybe we will in two weeks’ time, but not for this Saturday. We won at Ipswich and Newcastle without those players, so we can beat Crystal Palace as well.”

Esteban Cambiasso and Dean Hammond are both available for Leicester’s trip to Tottenham tomorrow. Chris Wood is a doubt due to an ankle problem, whilst Nigel Pearson has also revealed he’s considering handing starts to new boys Mark Schwarzer and Andrej Kramaric.

Sam Allardyce has confirmed that, aside from the injured pair Diafra Sakho and James Collins, West Ham “are all fit and well” ahead of their fourth-round clash against Bristol City.

With van Persie back I think I'll just stick with Aguero on my wildcard for this week - too much uncertainty in how the Man Utd forwards will line up for my tastes.

Probably a wise move. I do quite fancy Falcao though.

He was my most likely one week punt but at the cost of a free transfer and with LvG constantly nerfing the Man Utd attack I think I'll just ignore them.

On a side note. I was thinking maybe it's best to leave you two to sort out that team. Too many cooks and all that. What do you think?

I think not! Up to you though, obviously 🙂

I'll be working in the US in a few weeks with very little down time so I may struggle to keep abreast of things at that point - worth staying up to date if possible I'd say.

I only brought him in a couple of weeks ago. Had to make a decision between Rooney & Fabregas or Costa & AdM. General advice was to go for the latter. I had to be bloody clever didn't I 🙁

Falcao as a punt maybe. His points per minute is decent but his gametime is an issue.

Yep, if RvP was still out he'd be more attractive. I think I'll just avoid Man Utd at the moment - I've had no luck with them at all this season!

It doesn't have a conclusion but I'm swaying more towards the boring option of just putting Aguero straight in my team.

I don't know - I'm going to wait until near the deadline when we've had all the press conferences before I make a proper decision. At the moment I'm leaning towards just picking Aguero and having my FT to play with but I'll probably be swayed multiple times before the deadline.

I had that hope when I had Giroud around Christmas, but on Boxing Day Sanchez took the ball off Cazorla instead of Giroud and that settled it. All of Cazorla's pens since have proved it beyond doubt.

    Morning Guys

Is it worth doing Chadli and Terry > Cazorla and Bellerin/Gardos for a -4? Will change to Toby when he is back.

    Pants / Foster
    Baird / Wasi / Terry / Clyne / PVA
    Haz / Alexis / Chadli / ADM / Boyd
    Kun / Costa / Kane

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Second half of the season stars

Top five goal scorers last season from Gameweeks 23 to 38 were

    Sturridge
    Dzeko
    Suarez
    Bony
    Yaya Toure

Of these Toure, Suarez and Sturridge were among the same top five for Gameweeks 1 to 22. This shows that last season Dzeko and Bony were the second half of the season goal scoring stars. The two that dropped out of the top five were Loic Remy and Aguero by the way.

The top five assisters were from Gameweeks 23 to 38 were

    Suarez
    Gerrard
    Cazorla
    Yaya Toure
    Lambert.

Of these only Gerrard was among the same top five for Gameweeks 1 to 22. Cazorla, Lambert, Toure and Suarez emerged as second half of the season stars.

Those that dropped out were Rooney, Ozil, Lukaku and Ramsey.

    Conclusion –

So what do we gain from this? Admittedly there were other factors at play such as injuries and changing managers and formations. But it could provie a useful guide to the players that do not suffer from second half of the season syndrome.

It looks like of this seasons realistic starters Yaya Toure, Gerrard, Cazorla are among those with a good track record of second half of the season performances. Among those with a rotation risk Dzeko and Bony also prove they can go the distance.

Who do you think will be the second half of the season stars?

Johnty please as a scouts do you or someone else has a spreadsheet of FPL pts for first 19 GW's? I like the theory for a season of two halves. It is a quite decent one so if someone has it, please share it.

In the second half always different players seems to pick it up.

      Thanks

Looking at those players, perhaps freshness from not playing as many games is a factor.

Bony and Dzeko made a lot of sub appearances in the first half of last season, only getting a regularly run of starts from January onwards.

Sturridge missed eight games through injury, whilst Suarez missed the start of the season through aupension - though he also possesses incredible fitness levels. Even so, Sturridge scored more goals from GW23 than Suarez.

Yaya and Gerrard relied on set pieces and their importance to their teams' title push to keep ticking over, so maybe if you're looking for goals from open play, you ought to look at players who've been on the sidelines, but now should be nailed on for whatever reason.

Giroud and Ramsey are the men who immediately spring to my mind. Arsenal have also had Ozil and Walcott missing, but I'm not as convinced of their starting time. Other contenders might be Sturridge, Falcao, Gomis and Mirallas.

I don't care for any of this tbh. A good player will retain his form throughout a season. I don't think you can split a season in two and say, "these players won't perform but these ones will."

Fwiw, triple WBA defence looks a very handy differential right now.

    Morning Folks,

Activated my Wild Card and have been reading allot of the threads on here. I found it interesting that a few of the article and hot topics authors advocated that if you are 30k plus ( currently 45k) you should think about leaving out some of the highly owned star players ( Aguero, Sanchez, Hazard etc.) At the same time some warned against chasing last weeks points. It is difficult not to chase last weeks points, they are after all an indication of form. Anyway, considering the above I have drafted the following wild card team. Please feel free to comment.

    De Gea, ( Elliot)
    Ivanovich, Baird, Bertrand, PVA, Hutton
Oscar, Santi, Sterling, Puncheon, Ward Prowse
Costa, Falcao/ Van persie (with funds to transfer in Aguero GW 24), Giroud

Is it too risky to go without Sanchez and Hazard? The way I see it both Oscar and Santi play behind the striker and should therefore offer more point potential.

    Thanks

ignore every advice suggesting you should act differently depending on your rank. just get the best players. if you truly think cazorla/oscar will outscore sanchez/hazard then go for it. but i think haz/san are the best two midfielders and if you get santi or oscar it should be an addition and not instead of those two.

de gea is too expensive imo when panti has better ppg and will continue to be awesome.

Thanks, I have had Panti sinc for a long time now and I would like to keep him, but also like PVA and not sure whether to double up on Sunderland defense now that they will go two up front.

Yeah, it hard to get rid of Hazard, he is on penalties as well but there is a big price difference between the two as well.

PVA played as a wing back at the weekend, and I've had success with doubling up on both Saints and Villa this season, so i'm not afraid to do it with Panti and PVA.

I totally agree with this. You should pick what you regard to be the strongest team whatever your rank. I am 87k but am doing alright in my mini leagues. I don't want to risk being out of contention to win some cash chasing a higher OR

Right team – what do you reckon about the following WC draft:

    Forster / Given
    Terry / PVA / Hutton / Wollscheid / Wisdom
Hazard / Cazorla / Di Maria / Puncheon / Elia
    Aguero / Costa / Defoe

The big missing ticket as I see it is Sanchez, but I’m hoping Cazorla will continue to score well and the extra £3m allows for a lot more balance in the rest of the side…

Could do Cazorla, Forster and Terry OUT – Sanchez, Foster and Bellerin IN??

I used to work as a buyer...one trick you learn very early when having meetings/interviews is to say nothing whilst somebody starts running off verbally....they kinda become uncomfortable and just keep talking....The journo's are letting LVG do it.

It's harsh to judge someone on how they speak in what is their 4th language! Judge him by his results, which in a season of transition is ok so far. Every club he joins has a slow start, but almost always followed by huge success

ADM for Eriksen is suicidal especially where LVG has Di MAria playing. He is a winger and thats it until he starts playing on the wing then I might consider him. He looked lost up top last time.
