We take another look around the treatment rooms this evening to assess the latest batch of injuries sustained over the weekend action. Tony Pulis has worries up front, Leighton Baines is a concern for Everton, whilst Gylfi Sigurdsson is doubtful for the Swans’ trip to Tottenham.

Arsenal
The Gunners have concerns over Francis Coquelin after the midfield battler was forced off with a broken nose against Everton. After the 2-0 win, Arsene Wenger went on to say:

“Yes [he has broken his nose]. I don’t know [how long he will be out], I hope not. I don’t know whether he will need surgery or not. They told me he was bleeding but that he could stay on. The second time he was hit again so after that I had to take him off. I had been told by the medical people that he could stay on. He wanted to stay on. He didn’t play here for a long time so now that he plays, of course he doesn’t want to come off the pitch”.

Aston Villa
Tim Sherwood’s worries at left-back continued yesterday. Deprived of both Aly Cissokho and Kieran Richardson for the trip to Newcastle, the Villa boss handed Matt Lowton a rare start only to see the defender forced off through injury in the last ten minutes of the 1-0 loss.

Crystal Palace
Jordon Mutch lasted just 32 minutes of the Eagles’ 3-1 win over West Ham before being forced off with a thigh injury.

Everton
Leighton Baines missed today’s loss at Arsenal with a leg problem sustained in training. Speaking to the club’s website, Roberto Martinez revealed the left-back has question marks hanging over his availability for the midweek trip to the Britannia:

”We tried to give Leighton a breather against Young Boys on Thursday in the Europa League so that he was fully fit for today, but unfortunately he got a knock to his left quad on Friday and was out of this squad. I don’t know if he is going to be available for Wednesday – I doubt it.”

Hull
Robbie Brady seems poised for a spell on the sidelines after picking up a calf complaint in training prior to yesterday’s loss at Stoke. Tigers boss Steve Bruce revealed:

”Brady pulled up with a horrible calf injury yesterday. He could be out for weeks, months. Unfortunately he’s damaged his calf really, really badly. He couldn’t walk yesterday.”

Bruce also explained the reasons behind the omission of front two Nikica Jelavic and Dame N’Doye from the starting line-up, with the latter travelling back to Russia earlier in the week:

”Unfortunately, Jelavic’s knee was sore yesterday morning so we couldn’t take a risk there and N’Doye has been halfway around the world again this week.”

Hull are also sweating over the fitness of David Meyler after the midfielder was withdrawn due to injury at the Britannia.

Liverpool
Jordon Ibe missed today’s win over City due to injury, according to the local press.

Man United
Louis van Gaal was without Phil Jones and Luke Shaw for the 2-0 win over Sunderland, whilst back-up stopper Victor Valdes also missed out. Speaking to MUTV, the Dutchman went on to say:

“Shaw had a tight hamstring and Jones was ill. I cannot put players who are ill and tired in my line-up. Victor Valdes also has a problem and wasn’t on the bench. I had to make three changes during our final day of preparation.”

Newcastle
Massadio Haidara was stretchered off during the Magpies 1-0 win over Villa but according to the local press, the defender has confirmed his withdrawal was no more than precautionary.

Manager John Carver is also optimistic on a quick return for the cut-priced defender:

“It’s his knee. He’s got an on-going issue with it, but it’s not too serious, so we will see what he’s like tomorrow. Hopefully, he should be available for Wednesday.”

Stoke
Mark Hughes is set to be without Stephen Ireland for the foreseeable future after the midfielder was withdrawn at half-time with a calf injury wound against Hull. Post-match, a livid Hughes slammed the tackle by Tigers’ defender Maynor Figueroa:

“It was a shocking challenge. It could have finished Stephen’s career. Why it is not a straight red, I have no idea. There has been a lot of talk of challenges recently but this was worse than any of them. We have lost Stephen for any number of weeks. He is in a bad way. He has a slice on his calf and needed 12 or 15 stitches. He has come in at half-time, rolled his sock down, and everyone was taken aback by the severity of the gash.”

Sunderland
The Black Cats’ on-loan winger Ricky Alvarez is rated as “touch and go” for the midweek clash against Hull, according to Gus Poyet.

Swansea
Gylfi Sigurdsson missed the Swans’ 1-0 win at Burnley with “a slight hamstring concern”, according to the club’s official website.

West Brom
Tony Pulis is facing a potential crisis up front ahead of the Baggies’ midweek derby against Villa. With Victor Anichebe missing out due to a groin problem, both Saido Berahino and Brown Ideye were given pain-killing injections prior to yesterday’s win over Southampton but neither player was able to finish the match. After watching his strikers hobble off, the West Brom manager conceded:

“Berahino has not trained all week and he might have to do that next week. It’s to do with his ankle or foot. We have a weakness up front in terms of numbers. The last 15 or 20 minutes we have had to play Stephane Sessegnon up there. Brown Ideye and Saido were both carrying knocks even before the game. It just shows they have got good spirit in the dressing room and people want to play. Saido had an injection before the game and maybe he should have one before every game, scoring goals like that. We will dust them all down and see where we are.”

Yep, I'm in the same situation. It'd just a matter of timing the shift to Costa.

For me that's GW 30, Chelsea play Hull and that's around the time RVP may be coming back to screw Rooney up.

If Kane keeps his form up it has to be him. You'd be banking on a reversal in form to back Aguero

No, I was at Wembley today and am going on what I saw. Spurs are tired, Kane is tired. Aguero is fit and fresh and will play 90 against Leicester.

Armband's on Aguero and I'm quite relaxed about it.

Chelsea are a top side though, also I'm not sure Aguero will get 90mins, highly unlikely in fact.

Why would that be? City have 10 days after Wednesday before their next game. Aguero will only come off if they are 4 or 5 up.

Look at his last 6 games since returning from injury. He often gets hauled off early. 2 goals up with 20mins to go and I can see Bony getting a run up front. He might be tired as well having just played a full 90 against liverpool. Why not give others a run?

It's not the smart play. I get what you're saying and agree to a point but it still has to be Kane.

I think it IS the smart play. It's not as if I won't have Kane at all.

I reckon Kane may get 1 goal and 120-150 minutes over the 2 games. That's around 11 points if we give him a BAP.

At home to Leicester I think Aguero can easily do better than that.

@ Ryan - "why not give others a run" is because City have just lost 2 games in succession and have 10 days before playing again. Pellegrini will be desperate for a big confidence-building win. Aguero might come off around 75 minutes if they are well ahead. But more likely the move would be Bony for Dzeko, same as today.

                        That's my take anyway.

If they are up 2 nill the game will be in the bag and he will be hauled off. History suggests as much

What history doesn't suggest is that Kane will get any less than 90 minutes for both games. You are deluding yourself.

Miscounted. It's actually 9 points, not 11. Even if he scores twice that's 13 points. How much can I lose by captaining Aguero? Hard to see him blanking so maybe it could cost me 6 points even if Kane scores twice.

Now look at it the other way. Would an Aguero hat-trick really surprise anyone against Leicester? That would be 17 points. And if a tired Spurs struggle in their 3rd match in 6 days and 4th match in 9 days Kane could quite easily blank in both.

I think my call has a relatively low downside but potentially a much bigger upside.

                        You forgot BAPS. SAY 2 BAPS X 2 games X 2(C) = 8

No I didn't. I gave him 1 BAP in the 13 pts. Maybe that might be 2 or 3. Maybe he'll blank in one game and get 1 goal and 1 BAP in the other. Who can tell.

Anyway, I'm perfectly happy if I'm the only one with the armband on Aguero. Was just chatting with MR and Ryan about why I'm doing it.

For me it's what poker players call a value bet.

The luxury of being in a ML where 2nd, 3rd, 4th don't have Aguero making him a nice differential anyway.

No Sterling/Silva makes me nervous. Giroud/Walcott could punish me but now I have got rid and bought Austin... for a hit....and now I have a funny feeling QPR are going to do well (it's called delusion)

That I will blissfully get by owning just Kane and Eriksen without a hitch. Then Spurs get 2 cleanies and Austin has a blinder.

Remember our conversation the other day about my local high school team doing Hakka?

Your Scots College U17 kids played in my very own Malay College 7s tourney for the past few days. Your Kiwis lost in yesterday's final though, unfortunately.

At high school the top rugby players are encouraged to do a lot of gym work to bulk up. From the age of 15 they can be quite imposing. Not much point being a scrawny fella playing rugby at that age.

Indeed. Even our 17-year-olds can't suit against your 14-16 boys. You guys are years ahead, imo.

Scrawny fella, now tell that to Crouch 😆

He could easily be 100kg with a proper diet and gym work. Would be a good lock.

        Aguero for me.

The thing about bringing in DGW players is what are you going to do with them afterwards.

I decided only to bring players in that I want to keep. That meant Eriksen (already have Kane) and I wasn't even 100% about him to be honest.

    Terry - Jones - Dawson
    Sanchez - Hazard - Eriksen - Mane

Interesting set of replies, thanks. I was thinking Giroud to Austin, but Giroud keeps scoring and Sanchez hasn't done much since Ozil came back. So I'm now wondering whether to take a one week punt on someone like Phillips then switch to another high priced midfielder the week after.

Did very well. He played just in front of Terry and Cahill tracking Eriksen. Problem is that Cahill played quite well alongside Terry and you know Matic will slot back in midfield when he comes back from suspension so looks like he'll be rotated with Cahill once again.

Figured I get Costa back next week so will need to take a hit to finance Austin > Costa. Might as well do an early hit.

if I wait for 2FT Costa may have gotten 2 YC by then.

Defoe's price fall prices me out of Defoe to Austin. Doh! That's what I get for not paying attention I guess...

Went for Cisse instead so I could get Silva in for JWP. Which is why I say it was only decent. Should brought Rooney in and sold Walcott for Silva this week but hindsight is 20/20. Would also have given me a headache as I don't really wanna sell Giroud this week.

I hate him so much. If not for him Rooney would probably be the highest scoring player in the game. I was hesitant to bring the pig in last week purely due to LvG's idiocy.

Yep. I was hesitant too for that reason. And as soon as RVP is back, Rooney will be out of my team. But with RVP missing it's hard to see how even van Bile can avoid playing Rooney in his proper position.

Not sure to be honest will wait for any more news, but aye he definitely hasn't warranted his price tag so far. This is one of the best fixtures on paper from an attacking perspective though and it doesn't get much better than an Aguero, Kane, Studge frontline for Gw28.

Pool are also redhot right now, can't see many teams stopping their fluid attack any time soon. Surprised so many have turned their heads on Pool in general (fixtures aside)

          Fair point.

          otoh,

Many, many people will (c) Kane so if he delivers you're doomed

Kun may get the points but despite the a-brace-at-least, a good score line for MCI means high chance for him to be subbed early. Remember NEW the other day?

I like his 2 shots at getting the points, and it is more fun to play FPL that way
