Our pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders arrives once again tonight. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

This week’s Poll is something of a landslide, with Sergio Aguero’s return to form persuading just under 49% of voters to back the City frontman as West Ham pay visit. In spite of his double at Old Trafford, it’s fair to say the Argentine has toiled in front of his own fans this term – he’s netted in just four of his 12 Etihad appearances, with only one double-digit haul (albeit a monster 19-point return) at home all season. With Big Sam’s men conceding in all but one of their road trips, David Silva (3% votes) looks a real differential candidate, having served up 37 points (17, 11, 9) in his last three Etihad showings.

Palace duo Glenn Murray (17%) and Yannick Bolasie (5%) are amongst the most-favoured options as Alan Pardew’s side look for a fifth straight win this weekend. Six goals and four assists in his last six highlights Murray’s sublime form, with the 5.2-priced striker racking up three successive double-figure hauls ahead of the Baggies’ visit. Bolasie’s 24-point return at Sunderland has kick-started an almighty bandwagon – over 88,000 FPL managers have snapped up the midfielder, who has now delivered three goals and four assists in his previous four. Bearing in mind that the Baggies have shipped ten in their last three, Tony Pulis could struggle upon his return to Selhurst Park.

Harry Kane is just ahead of Eden Hazard (7% to 6%), despite his recent patchy form. Three blanks in the last four have diminished his armband appeal but a trip to Newcastle looks the ideal opportunity to return to scoring form – four of Kane’s seven double-figure hauls have been on the road this term. The Magpies have just two clean sheets in 20 league fixtures now and look unlikely to improve upon that record, judging by their insipid display at Liverpool on Monday night.

Hazard’s home encounter with United has deterred many. With a goal or assist in five of his last six, there’s no doubt the Chelsea winger is one of the most consistent options around, though it’s worth nothing that he’s scored in just one of his last seven at Stamford Bridge. Given that the visitors have just two clean sheets in their last six road trips – at QPR and Newcastle – Jose Mourinho’s men will be confident of getting amongst the goals on Saturday evening.

Elsewhere, the likes of Leighton Baines and Romelu Lukaku sit around the 1% mark as Everton entertain Burnley. The Toffees have four clean sheets in five at Goodison and with Sean Dyche’s side scoring once in the last six, a clean sheet, at least, looks on the card for the Merseysiders.

Bottomed: I was thinking Mane and Wolly to Bolasie and Baines leaving me with:

    Myhill
    Baines Terry Toby
    Hazard Silva Erikson Bolasie
    Aguero Remy Kane

    Foster, Clyne Dawson Boyd

    WC 34.

    Thoughts?

Do I go with Vardy or Cambiasso for the DGW? Cheers

Vardy is a better punt than Cambiaso, but it depends who you'd have alongside them.

I have Kun, Giroud and Kane, so it would probably be for Giroud.

This. It depends on the options you're picking elsewhere but Vardy is a better option all things being equal.

Then again, you'd probably be in less of a rush to get rid of Cambiasso afterwards given he'd make a good cheap 5th midfielder.

    Should I:

    A) Go with my initial plan of Coleman + Murray for this week only.
    B) Go with the puntmaster's Dann + Perez suggestion for this week only.

newcastle couldn't even score against Sunderland. Toxic atmosphere at St James. Perez of course could score, but Murray is clearly a better shout.

I'm always slightly nervous picking a player like Murray after they've got a few hauls, you worry you're chasing points. Plus the fact that Palace have less to play for has to be a factor too, doesn't it? They wouldn't be the first team to mentally check out before the end of the season.

You are laeding ML with 19 points, your opponents has WC intact.
Your team is good for GW33 and DGW34 with Scmeichel, Schlupp, Terry, Hazard, Henderson and Remy as doublers.

    What do you do:
A: Takes hits to cover potential braces?
    B: Pray?

So, I'm all set on just using 1 of my FT's to replace Foster this week, other keeper is Ospina, so I only really need cover for this week, and potentially next (when Ospina has CHE), so...
    a) Schmeichel (mostly for the DGW)
    b) Speroni (good fixtures but poor defensive form)
    c) Howard
    d) Begovic
    e) Hart
    f) Courtois (for DGW but would mean no Fab/Remy)

Already have 3 Southampton so Davis is not an option. Ta!

Despite intensive treatment Sturridge is not expected to recover from a hip injury in time for Sundays' clash with AVFC in the FA Cup #LFC

I wouldn't if you need to take -4 now or next week because of it. It's the cup game and he will be back for at least one of the DGWgames, I guess

It wouldn't be for a hit. In fact I can only field 10 this week too

Thoughts on these transfer for a -4? Or anything better? Not that happy I have Remy now!

    Guzan Hamer
    Terry Fonte Rose Dawson Schlup
    Silva Mata Hazard Eriksen Boyd
    Aguero Kane Remy

Hamer & Eriksen to Schmiechal and Bolasie?

Hi all, a bit stuck with what to do and would appreciate some help. As it stands I can field 11 players with one on the bench.

    Davies
    Ivanovic Wolly Alderweireld Dawson
    Hazard Silva Eriksen Mane
    Aguero Kane

    Guzan Boyd Giroud* PVA*

I am a little under prepared for the DGW and would appreciate some advice. Should I take a hit this week to look at getting Vardy/Remy/Azpi/Cesc in? And then another hit to get Skrtel/Sterling in?

What is the best port of call here?

    Thanks

    A) Cahill + Sterling
    B) Skrtel + Fabregas
    C) Skrtel + Cout + Hendo -4
    D) Skrtel + Fabregas + Vardy -4

Anyone with a wildcard considering yaya this week? Always good for a goal

    1. Dr. Agabuse

With a WC in hand, many seem to face the dilemma to pick either YAYA or Bolasie for one week.

I'M not quite sure myself, so I looked at the stats:

Yaya had 17 attempts to Bolasies 10 over the last 6 games. Although maybe (considering his more defensive position) predictably he only took 5 from inside the box to Bolasies 7 in that time.

Yaya averagely played further up the pitch when City had two strikers in the last 6weeks (which will be expected vs West Ham who sit deep). This speaks for the Ivorian but

..after Bolasies amazing performance last GW, I cheked if he played as centrally and as close to goal once before this season, which he did in GW29, when he had another two assists (in a 3-1 vs QPR at home).

Both seem like good options (Lennon has horrible attacking stats, he rarely shoots and loses out in all aspects to the others) but with Bolasies move to a no10 role and proof that he is able to replicate his output in this position (3 goals and 3 assists in 2 games there) I advice to go with the Congo International. He's in form, playing for the inform team with an inform striker and squaring up is WBA, the team that has conceded 12 and therefore, the combined highest number of goals in the last 6 Gameweeks!

Also Palace have scored 14 (just one less than leading ManUnited) to Citys poor 9 in the last 6games, which also underlines Bolasies better chance to assist - also backed up by his 3 assists to the 0 that Yaya had and by his 11 created chances to Yaya's 7...

All of a sudden, I think, it's quite obvious which way to go.
Although I like to spend my money, Bolasie is the clear favourite to score and assist this coming GW

One great game doesn't make someone a great FPL pick.

Think of the people who suffered after Tadic's wonder haul.

Best reply I've ever had to a post, thanks!

Although as a palace fan I'm going to steer clear of bolasie myself. Remember danny Butterfield once scored a 13 minute hattrick for us too, doesn't necessarily mean he can shoot!

Might take the punt myself, not got much to lose and as you say he's always a goal threat.

    I love the FFS articles.

One very minor criticism is repeated reference to value rather than price e.g " the 12.5 valued Sergio Aguero." See previous article.

Should be priced rather than valued. Two very different things.

    What a pedant.

It might be a bit early but what are your thoughts on this GW34 draft:

    McGregor;
    Ivanovic, Skrtel, Huth;
    Hazard, Fabregas, Coutinho, Henderson;
    Aguero, N'Doye, Vardy.

Ospina; Ramsey, Ryan Taylor, Van Aanholt. £4.4m itb

And do Vardy -> Giroud in GW35.

    * Indicates no game

    Courtois

    Jones Toby Bert

    Hazard Silva Sanchez* Coutinho*

    Aguero Kane Giroud*

    No playing subs.

Would you do Coutinho & Giroud to Bolassie & Rooney and field 10? Or other ideas??

Worth doubling up on a Chelsea defence? Or better off doubling up in midfield? Already have Hazard and Ivan.. So do I bring in Cesc or Terry?
