Having dissected the midfielders in yesterday’s Watchlist article, we analyse our favoured forwards over the next four-to-six Gameweeks. A third consecutive double-figure haul sees Glenn Murray jumps up the rankings, while Leicester’s favourable run-in brings the in-form Jamie Vardy firmly into focus.

Sergio Aguero returns to the summit after breaking his goal scoring drought in the Manchester derby. The 12.5-valued forward bagged a brace in City’s 4-2 defeat to United, and with a favourable run-in (WHM, AVL, tot, QPR, swa, SOT), including three plum home matches in the next four, he looks worth holding on to, despite the obvious temptation to bring in forwards who have a double in Gameweek 34.

With three blanks in his last four appearances, Harry Kane drops a place in our latest update. The underlying stats are also cause for concern, with the Tottenham forward only registering eight shots from inside the box in the last four Gameweeks, compared to 16 between Gameweek 25 and 28. This weekend’s clash at Newcastle is favourable, but with the fixtures then getting tougher (sot, MCI, sto), Kane could struggle to repeat his phenomenal mid-season form.

Having averaged 12.6 points per appearance over the last three Gameweeks, Glenn Murray is undoubtedly the form player in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) at the moment. The Crystal Palace forward has managed nine shots from inside the box in the last four Gameweeks, a decent number considering his 5.2 price tag. With two favourable home fixtures (WBA, HUL) up next before the schedule turns nasty (che, MUN, liv), Murray looks a strong short-term play, particularly for those looking for an option just for Gameweek 33 before utilising their wildcard for double Gameweek 34.

After racking up two goals and as many assists in his last three appearances, Jamie Vardy finds a place towards the top of our Watchlist. Along with form, the 4.5-valued forward also has the fixtures (SWA, bur/CHE, NEW, SOT, sun, QPR) in his favour, including a double next week. Crucially for some, his lowly price tag enables Fantasy managers to bring in premium midfielders such as Cesc Fabregas and Raheem Sterling for double Gameweek 34.

Chelsea’s Loic Remy keeps his place in our ladder despite missing the West London derby against QPR with a muscle injury picked up in training. The 7.2-rated forward is expected to be fit to return for Saturday’s encounter against Man United, and with Diego Costa still unlikely to return for double Gameweek 34 (ars/lei), the French international looks an enticing short-term prospect. It is worth bearing in mind, though, that the Blues have only scored ten goals in their last seven Premier League matches, compared to 16 between Gameweek 18 and 24.

Wayne Rooney moves up a couple of places this time around, having scored four goals and provided an assist over the last six Gameweeks. With Louis van Gaal’s 4-3-3 formation working so well, the fit-again Robin van Persie may struggle to regain a spot in the starting XI, so although United’s upcoming schedule (che, eve, WBA, cpl, ARS, hul) is mixed, the confidence surging through Old Trafford at the moment helps boost Rooney’s Fantasy prospects.

Facing a blank this week and with Chelsea visiting the Emirates in Gameweek 34, Olivier Giroud had to fall in our latest refresh. The blank against Burnley halted a run of seven goals in six appearances, so while the French international’s form is strong, it isn’t surprising he heads the transfers out this week, given the options available to us for double Gameweek 34. Nonetheless, with Arsenal’s schedule from Gameweek 35 so favourable (hul, SWA, mun/SUN, WBA), it appears imperative Fantasy managers formulate a plan to bring the 8.8-rated forward back in, with Giroud amongst the favourites for the captain’s armband for the Gunners own double in Gameweek 37.

With eight goals in his last six league appearances, Christian Benteke is clearly enjoying life under Tim Sherwood at Villa Park. Like Giroud, the Belgian’s Fantasy prospects aren’t bright for the next two Gameweeks (blank, mci), but with a kind run-in (EVE, WHM, sot, BUR) to follow, the 7.5-priced forward could be a handy differential down the stretch, with his current ownership standing at just 3.2%.

Graziano Pelle returns to the Watchlist, having found the net for the first time since Gameweek 17 in Southampton’s 2-0 win against Hull. Ronald Koeman’s side should benefit from a strong run-in (sto, TOT, sun, lei, AVL, mci), making the 7.4-priced forward a viable option, but with double Gameweeks around the corner, any investment in the Italian international looks unlikely right now.

QPR’s Charlie Austin is another victim of a blank this week, with Rangers’ schedule thereafter not particularly favourable either (WHM, liv, mci, NEW, lei). The 6.5-valued forward has been in good form, registering two goals and three assists in his last four outings, but with so much competition for places in our three-man frontlines, expect Austin’s 21% ownership to continue to dwindle over the next few weeks.

Following the news that Romelu Lukaku is on course to return to the Everton squad for Saturday’s home encounter against Burnley after stepping up his recovery from a hamstring injury, the Belgian international finds his way back into our thoughts. The Toffees face four home matches (BUR, MUN, SUN, TOT) in their final six league encounters, along with trips to Aston Villa and West Ham, and with a goal and three assists in his last two outings at Goodison Park, the 8.7-priced forward may be worthy of some consideration.

    2FT 0.0 ITB.

This GW: Ozil and Naughton > Sterling and Schlupp
Next: Kosc and Mane > Skrtel or/and hendo (-4)

    good transfers? Other suggestions? cheers.

    Myhill
    Alderweireld Azpilicueta Jones
    Mané Hazard Silva Puncheon
    Kane Agüero

Subs: Pantilimon Özil Giroud Koscielny Naughton

Any ideas on what to do with this sorry looking lot this week? 2FT & £5.3M in the bank. No WC left.

    Myhill (Foster)
    Clyne, Alderweireld, Zouma (PVA, Bellerin)
    Hazard, Eriksen, Puncheon, Siggy (Cazorla)
    Aguero, Kane (Austin)

Could only have 1 defender if Clyne doesn't play and Erik and Siggy are bang out of form.

Thinking maybe Caz & Bellerin to Fabregas/Silva and Schlupp. Then lose Eriksen & Siggy next week for a couple of Liverpool mids?

I reckon Zouma will start vs Utd, but you need to get rid for the DGW.

I guess he could start or come in for a cameo if they are wanting to shut up shop. I do hate wasting transfers on defenders when there are so many attacking players that need to be bought in for next GW.

What's the optimum number of DGW players?

    3x Chelsea
    3x Liverpool
    2x Leicester (1x GK/DEF & 1x FWD)
    0x Hull

    Does that seem about right?

        Seems about right

6 players will be fine after the DGW (CHE and LIV except when they face each other)

1 LEI keeper is ok if you have another playable keeper. The LEI forward should turn into Giroud/Benteke in GW35.

I like the Schmikes + Ospina combo...just wondering if I should go Ospina + 1 mid + Giroud or 2 mids + Giroud for GW37.

If you think about it...2 mids with CS = 2 extra points, just 2 less than Ospina would get per CS 😀

    Krul (Panti)
Ivanovic, Clyne, Dawson (Hutton, van Anholt)
    Hazard, Silva, Sanchez, Eriksen (James)
    Aguero, Kane, Austin

    2FT

    A) Austin->Murray
    B) Austin->Vardy
    C) Hutton->Schlupp

A or B would probably be for 1-2 weeks then switch to Sturridge if fit for the DGW 34. C would give me a better option than Dawson GW 33 and DGW-defender for DGW 34. I'd then do Austin->Sturridge in DGW 34 if fit.

Well, to be sure, I am a Barca fan and love them. Our defense has improved vastly this year, but we do sometimes let in goals that we should not, and blow leads (see Sevilla) that we should not. It is much improved with Matthieu and a much better Pique -- I agree!

    @Sarge

do you think there's anything to be said for McGregor and a LEI defender or Schmikes and Chester (Chester can be perma 3rd sub post DGW bar GW36)

        this is the worry

as a one week keeper to cover Ospina I can't look past a DGW keeper

But going triple LEI seems nuts even if one will be perma bench

Have a FT to burn as I'm WCing next week. Which option sounds better?

    A) Remy to Vardy (and hope Clyne starts so I can field 3 defenders)
    B) Moreno to Jagielka (and hope Remy starts)

Not too fussed about losing Moreno as I'll probably get Skrtel on WC.

People look into stats too much. Coutinho has been second to Hazard in terms of entertainment. That's probably why he's voted.

He has been immense, and in a struggling team.

What do you mean by clearly? stats? Important goals? Contribution in big games? Well i certainly can for all 3 of that
youd expect more from someone playing in a front 4 to be nominated for a pfa award

I mean something beyond the subjective.

There are probably 15 or so players that could reasonably be nominated, and Coutinho would be amongst them.

I, for example, wouldn't have Costa, Alexis or Fabregas in my top 6, but it would be understandable if others did.

Costa fab or sanchez have a lot more reasons to be up there other than a few tricks and tidy performances

For you, not me. I'm a fan of midfielders though, so that's probably why.

Modric doesnt look good on stats, doesnt score important goals, but he's probably the best midfielder in the world.

Costa scores, but doesnt offer much else, Fabregas has very rarely done anything exceptional, and Alexis loses the ball far too often for my liking.

Modric doesnt play as attacking midfielder...

Costa's goals have played a major role in keeping chrlsea top, and so have fabs assists. Not to mention matic...

Coutinhos performacnes might have given liverpool a good chance of europa(lol) not that one can prove it (unlike fab and costa)

Coutinho may start as an attacking midfielder, but his main role is moving the ball around the box, an the transition from midfield to attack. He rarely gets the final touch, and he may not always be the one making the inal pass, but like Ozil, he is always instrumental.
And where a team finishes is not at all relevent to who should get individual awards. Liverpool havent had a striker for most the season, and BR's ha to completely reinvent the team. If he started with 3 at the back and a fit striker tey would be right near the top.

Youre again describing characteristics of a good player , not "top 6 players of the league". You need more than that especially when there are at least 2 more players in your team doing a simialr job

Still, what makes him a candidate for the best player of the year? We are not questioning whether he is a good player, just whether he could plausibly be the best. Is there any standard by which you could really nominate him for the best player?

Maybe if coutinho was a central midfielder there could be a good argument, but certianly not someone whose primary job invovles setting up.goals, or even score a few himself.

Costa's off the ball runs are excellent as is his defensive work. Fabregas' passes have been nothing short of exceptional and Sanchez's possession won/lost ratio is about the same as Coutinho's, and his dribble success rate is better. True, weaker pass accuracy, but Coutinho's passing surely does not make him a candidate for the best player in the league. Sanchez hardly loses to Coutinho in these respects, and has different qualities for which he could be voted the best player. I still wait to hear what qualities would make Coutinho a candidate for the best player of the league.

Coutinho has played the majority of the season in front three. There have been players playing really in midfield who have contributed a lot more than him. E.g. Schneiderlin, Fabregas, Silva.

Good, yes, but immense? In what way? What is the argument for him being even in the top 10 of this season, let alone top 6?

Already that every single defender in the league has been overlooked by choosing Coutinho before them is just wrong. Final goal contribution is not everything, of course, but it is pretty difficult to argue that he's been better than Ivanovic who has not only been an elemental part of probably the best defence of the league but also contributed directly to as many goals as Coutinho who has played as a forward for majority of the season.

4 goals and 4 assists is very poor for a forward of the 5th placed team of the league, and then he should have provided something else significant, and now, what is that something else? What is the argument for him being even close to be nominated? What makes him better than Silva, Cazorla, Aguero, Giroud, Schneiderlin, Rooney, Ivanovic, Matic, Fabregas, Koscielny, Blind, Lloris, Pantilimon or Courtois? And I could continue the list. Jedinak, for one, would in my opinion deserve to be on that list before Coutinho.

                        no Boydinho for me

Skrtel, Toby, Terry and Smalling strikes me a benching dilemma waiting to happen

sun, lei, mci (could play him v AVL but I'd have to drop Terry or Skrtel)

                        Smalling

Is it worth getting Hendo in for Boyd for -4 next week if it means that the following week I would have to take him out for another -4 to free up funds to get Giroud back?

How on earth has Coutinho got nominated for player of the year? Its either a joke or goes to show how bang average the quality of the premiership is.

One tiny purple patch and he gets nominated ahead of Silva, Giroud who have been miles better despite have prolonged injury spells. Austin is single handedly keeping QPRs hope alive.

He hasnt even had the best season at Liverpool!

Austin is actually a really good shout. Done amazingly well playing for that rag bag army.

Yup, a few good tricks with nothing really to back it up with results and getting nominated is quite a joke

He scored two screamers back to back games and people couldnt get on their knees quick enough. Watch him over the season and I find him underwhelming.

Shame Charlie Adam didn't score in the game after Chelsea otherwise he could have thrown his name into the hat

I have been trying to find out if all those Liverpool players are worth a hit(I currently have none)
I looked at points per game and (form)
    In:
    Henderson 4,6 (5,3)
    Sterling 4,9 (5,0)
Skrtel 4,1 (didnt play 2 last games so lets say 4,1 same as ppg)
    Out
    Eriksen 4,5 (3,3)
    Phillips 3,4 (6,0)
    Rose 3,4 (3,3)

Now lets compare players based on ppg estimated points:
    Henderson 9,2 - Eriksen 4,5 = 4,7 OK-worth a -4 hit
    Sterling 9,8 - Phillips 3,4 = 6,4 OK-worth a -4 hit
    Skrtel 8,2 - Rose 3,4 = 4,8 OK-worth a -4 hit
If I compare based on form than Liverpool players show even better value except Phillips form has been good so questionable, but actually I would bench him anyway that week if I had him.
But I will probably bench Kane if I get 2 Liverpool mids so I should take his estimated points into the mix. He is playing Southampton away who have very strong defence(OK, I thought Kane wouldnt do anything against Chelsea)
To get those 3 players I need to take -8 hit and 1ft.
Result - They are all worth a hit 🙂

I might add that Liverpool are playing teams well below average so we might excpect even more points from those players than their average points...

Anyone have an update on the status of Remy? Which is the "safer" option for points: Remy or Vardy?

      Safer = Vardy
Higher ceiling for points = Remy IMO

Chelsea can be almost too professional at times....as a bunch of players I reckon they must be a good 20 goals short of what they could have had of they didn't take their foot off the gas. It's a habit Arsenal need to learn (real world)...

I think that has more to do with the manager than the players

Agreed...Arsenal are so good and so attacking that they need somebody to tell them that they don't need to score five...or even try. Two up and shut up shop is just as good, if another goal comes then that's ok but don't go all out for it.

wondering why managers are going for leicester players in DGW. They play Burnley and Chelsea. Accepted the Burnley game may bring goals, however, against Chelsea can you see them score??

Worth considering other players from teams with one game in GW34.

Here's my current squad. Need to field as many players as poss, only 6 points ahead of 2nd place in my ML!

    Krul (Lloris)
Clyne, Duff, Kos (O'Shea and Naughton)
    Hazard, Eriksen, Sanchez, Henderson (Philipps)
    Ideye, Kane, Aguero

Have 1FT (but happy to take a few hits...fortune favours the brave and all that!) have 0.7 itb.

All ideas worthwhile. Thinking of Sanchez-> Silva. Then Kos ->. Ivan for -4 hit. Should be able to field 10 players. Also tempted to bring in Bolasie or Murray but not sure it's worth the total -8 hit. This blank game week crept up on me out of nowhere!
