This evening we roll out the semi-final draw for the Fantasy Football Scout Cup XI, as sponsored by Paddy Power, as well as see who has made it through to the final of the Fantasy Football Members Cup V.

For the first time, Mark has reached the semi-finals of the FFS Paddy Power Cup XI, after ousting johni00 in the quarter-finals. He remains the competition’s highest placed manager, with an overall rank of 192, and faces Hutton Dressed as Lahm in the semi-finals.

Mark and Hutton Dressed as Lahm have failed to stock up on double Gameweek players and neither have an extra free transfer to use. Both have Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez in place, while Mark has a slight advantage with Hector Bellerin also in his side.

Meanwhile, 3,709th-placed faux_C faces HammersXI, who has an overall ranking of 636, in the other semi-final.

HammersXI already boasts Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Patrick van Aanholt in his side among key double Gameweek targets, while Faux C is also well stocked up with Costel Pantilimon, Sanchez and Van Aanholt already on board.

Faux C is proving an expert in cup competitions. His Gameweek 36’s score of 92 was enough to win the FFS Paddy Power Cup XI round 8’s top score prize of £25 worth of free bets with Paddy Power. He is also in the finals of the Fantasy Football Members Cup V and faces waltzingmatildas, who is ranked 4797 and is another who is well prepared for the double Gameweek. She has Sanchez, Bellerin and Pantillimon already in her team.

The semi-final draw for the FFS Paddy Power Cup XI can be found here, while the final draw for the Members Scout Cup V can be found here.

Good luck to those involved in the weekend’s action. In the meantime, though, if you’re looking for more information on the Scout Cup schedule and prizes available, click this link for a more thorough rundown.

Hazard is currently priced 11.2, is the most transferred out player this round, and has already fallen by 0.1 so far.

Any chance of him falling to 11.0 by saturday night ?

I see absolutely no reason why he should start this game, personally. He looked out of gas to large extent against Liverpool. Title wrapped up. He has more than done his work this year. Etc, etc...

even if hazard actually started..fielding some youth players and fringe players would have affected the entire team, making hazard less effective.

moreno and albrighton to vlaar (only for gw38 and to fund sunderland mid) and gomez/larsson for -4?
that means hazard on the bench.

other option is play hazard and save a transfer.

Arsène Wenger has revealed the following team news ahead of the Manchester United game:
    on team news...
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mathieu Debuchy and Mikel Arteta are not ready. Danny Welbeck has a little possibility to be fit. Aaron Ramsey is not in training yet but he should be better tomorrow. I don't think we have any big injuries, maybe Welbeck will be available but at the moment he looks short.
    on timescales...
I don't know how long the others will be out for, it's difficult to say, but hopefully they will play again this season.

I just discovered the "by quarter" scores, interesting reading for me...

    Q1 - 450pts (404k), 163 behind the winner
    Q2 - 562 pts (82k), 153 behind the winner
    Q3 - 627pts (3k), 78 behind the winner
    Q4 - 464pts (37k), 115 behind the leader

Seeing that this is my first season (as demonstrated by Q1) and I also misplayed the GW28 and 31 DGWs (I get DGWs now) that gives me hope for next season if I can use what I have learned to get off to a better start.

Getting a good gameweek 1 score is the holy grail. The trick though is to react quickly and get it sorted. I always aim to be in the top 10K by about Gameweek 15-16 and from there its still possible to win it, in theory. Gameweek 8 this season was like that bullet boost in Mario Karts for many including myself - which got us high quickly.

      Good luck next season.

GW 8 was the highlight of my season. 113 pts massive jump from 391k to 21k! Thanks to being a member I have to admit. Have been checking Tadic's stasts before then and it paid off big time.

agree. after gw8 i have only a few good weeks and most of the times red arrows..but still in top 10k

back then when u establish that 40pts gap its very hard for others to chase back because a template is formed and everyone will get similar players.

I remember one season 2010/11 I think, maybe earlier where I had a disastrous start...got my heavy hitters totally wrong. Went for Rooney and Lampard in gwk 1...in the season when Drogba and Malouda ripped it up for the first two months. Got them in quickly in gameweek 2 for a humbling hit and rose steadily into the outskirts of the top 10K.

So tough to get the gwk 1 team right - biggest lottery of them all.

From 400 k to top 1 k in 10 gw . Couple of good choices and a little luck. Its what you do once you hit the 1 k that counts. Most there have similar teams most of the the way ahead and its down to a few diffs , this season anyway.

Agree totally. I have often toyed with the idea of not entering until GW2 in order to jump on all of the bandwagons. But actually taking some big hits early to fix a non-functioning team is probably the best way to go if you get it wrong.

I think that's my plan for next year, I always burn the WC around GW 2 or 3 to fix mistakes but next year I think hits may be the best way so I can save the WC.

Top 200K is a good start as you only need a few average weeks to move on.

          Top 100K would be sensational

Top 10K is just wow. I've never done that. Give you such a good base to progress up the rankings.

I had a good start this year, 3k after GW4, 281 by GW11. It was mid-season that absolutely destroyed me, I was like last year's Arsenal, absolutely fell apart in late winter/spring.

Play relatively safe for GW1, you wont go top by playing safe, but it will put you in a decent position to push once more information is gathered as the GW's go by.

Yeah, that's my thinking. Like in a golf or poker tournament when you play for position in the earlier rounds.

The thing is, this year my initial selection was quite poor and I had no idea of FPL mechanics so my squad was badly structured as well. It took me maybe a third of the season to get things straight. Next season I will doubtless make some different mistakes but hopefully not the same ones anyway. 🙂

Don't think first season matters all that much. My first season was best rank until this year (5th). I guess knowing more about DGWs will help but not to get you off to a better start as there very rarely ever is any that early on.

Actually had my worst start by a long shot this year but eventually clawed it back. Not even sure what I've done differently this year.

I thought I was holding back on the hits but I've made 16 so far.

First season matters if you are sorta not really sure of the in's & out's and the "best practice" tactics. While I joined here pre-season, I was on vacation and could not glean the best strategies early on, and did not have the time to read as much as I do now. The first 8 weeks for me were largely based on my previous US based fantasy game experience which was helpful but largely insufficient. These boards are a tremendous resource!

          That they are.

Thing that messed me up this year was being away week before season start. Had hardly looked at defence and messed it up.

Nothing to say same wouldn't have happened if I'd planned.

Think I got my mojo back for FPL this year so hopefully put more planning in next year

I got off to a dreadful start last season, which was my 1st.
I entered last minute and dropped down to 2.3m by gw5, wildcarded and finished 213 th, just missing out on a top 100 place.
This season I tried to start strongly - 41k gw1.
Entered top 10k gw2 and stayed there all season so far.
Early WC messed my team up, and my winter WC really messed it up
      This season;
      Q1 4.3k
      Q2 8.4k
Q3 625k How not to play a winter WC
      Q4 16.3k Steadying the ship

      Current rank 3.8k

Wow. Just wrecked by the winter wildcard.

I think the winter wildcard is a gear change. The temptation is to create a squad for the first half of the season (I saw a lot of managers doing that) but you need to create a squad for the second half and figure out which high ownership player(s) to leave out.

He played on Mon and then hasn't trained, that's beyond odd, I wonder if the leg reacted and Wenger won't risk him for both games this week after playing made him unable to train.

Why not? Leicester have been blowing teams away in the last 6 (apart from Chelsea) Sunderland have scraped a couple of results and one of those was against Everton who had nothing to play for.

can't see sunderland losing their last 3 games in a row. they have arsenal and chelsea away last 2 and usually when teams have DGW they get a good result in at least one of the games. just my opinion.

Hopefully he had a reaction that makes Wenger not risk him again with the Cup Final so close.

Would fab out for Gomez be a waste of my FT?

Decided to take a look at my form this season and I got to say the results were interesting. Looks like my final year in school during Q2 and Q3 really cost my FPL badly. Oh well, have to really thank the guys at FFS for their contributions and hard work for the past few seasons! 🙂 and for those that has helped me this season! Really appreciate everything!

    Q1 : 4.464k
    Q2: 76.66k
    Q3: 22.39k
    Q4: 3.5k

They say start strong and finish strong eh? 🙂

What's the latest news on Haz starting? Earlier this week it was said he'll be rested vs. West Brom (from Eden himself). This still the case?

There as never a news that he will be rested. It's just an assumption, which is a possibility really.

Just have to wait for tomorrow news from Mou

Impossible to find amongst the sea of posts this week, but someone, somewhere, posted something along those lines. Looking at EH's feed, he didn't so...

Settle down. I never spread rumor. I, for one, will be benching Haz unless Mou says he plays.

Rival has Terry, Sanchez, Hendo and so far yet to make any transfers. I need to outmaneuvre him with my 2FTs:

    A) Sterling, Hendo, Ivan ➡ Sanchez, Ramsey, Wasi (-4) [Leaving out Chelsea def cover]

    B) Sterling + Ivan ➡ Sanchez + Kosc (FREE) [Keeping Hendo, but no 3rd Arsenal mid]

Preferably want 3 Arsenal attacking players but can't doing it without sacrificing all Lpool attack and Ivan, where do I go?

Feeling a little happier with my Ozil, Sanchez and Giroud combo now...only a little though.

Ozil doesn't create enough, Giroud might not start both games.

Last game against United, Giroud came on for the last 14 minutes and scored. If he gets going again against United he'll probably do well against Sunderland as well, he does tend to score goals in bunches. I am very torn between him and Sanchez for captain.
