Leighton Baines is ruled out of Everton’s final two fixtures after undergoing minor ankle surgery. Danny Welbeck is likely to be available for Arsenal’s double Gameweek, whilst Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat is looking to go on the offensive as Leicester roll up to the Stadium of Light.

Baines out for season following surgery

Roberto Martinez revealed in his Thursday morning press conference that Leighton Baines has undergone surgery on his ankle and will be sidelined for the remainder of the campaign, returning for the start of pre-season:

“We had Leighton’s ankle checked. He has had surgery. It was straight-forward. He will be out until the start of pre-season.”

The Scout Says: Prior to succumbing to back-to-back defeats, Everton’s rearguard notched four clean sheets in six outings, so Baines’ absence threatens to disrupt their momentum. Nonetheless, the ownerships of Phil Jagielka and Seamus Coleman might still fancy the Merseysiders’ chances of securing shut-outs in their final two fixtures, given that both Tottenham (five goals in six) and West Ham (one goal in four) have displayed an impotence in the final third of late. With Bryan Oviedo also ruled out with a foot injury, Toffees youngster Luke Garbutt (3.9) is poised to earn a couple of starts in his breakthrough season, presenting a budget option for those managers attempting to free up funds for the double. To that end, Baines 14% ownership are now afforded the luxury of cashing in and redistributing the left-back’s considerable value – drafting in the likes of 4.1-priced Patrick van Aanholt ahead of Sunderland’s double would generate significant cash to splash on Arsenal’s big-hitters further up the field.

Welbeck primed for Old Trafford return

Arsene Wenger is confident that Danny Welbeck will be available for selection for Arsenal’s trip to Manchester United on Sunday. The Gunners frontman is said to have recovered from the knee injury that’s sidelined him for the last two Gameweeks.

The Scout Says: Welbeck’s return to the squad offers Wenger a way to shake up Arsenal’s forward line – which he may elect to do in light of the North London club failing to register in their previous two home encounters. The versatile English marksman could be fielded on the right flank in Arsenal’s favoured 4-2-3-1 set-up or as the lone striker, threatening the starts of Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud, who currently occupy those berths. The latter has come off the boil of late and drawn blanks in four successive outings, so Wenger may well be tempted to deploy Welbeck against his former club, given he was amongst the goals in the Gunners’ FA Cup win at Old Trafford earlier this year. Even if Wenger sticks by his regulars for the double, though, Welbeck’s likely return affords the Gunners boss the option of rotating his side in Gameweek 38, should Arsenal clinch a top three spot prior to their season finale at home to West Brom.

Advocaat targets win over Foxes at all costs

Sunderland manager Dick Advocaat will accept nothing short of a victory when they host Leicester City at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Speaking to the club’s official site, the Dutch manager stressed the importance of the supporters spurring them on to secure all three points against the Foxes:

“It’s not only the final home game but a very crucial game against Leicester. Hopefully, not only the players, but our fans really realise how important this game is for everybody. They have to make a lot of noise because we really need it. Leicester are a very difficult team to beat and in that game we have to give more than 100% to get the result. There’s only one result that we need and that’s the three points.â€

The Scout Says: Sitting two points ahead of 18th-placed Hull City, Sunderland know a home win would keep them safe from relegation if the Tigers lose at Tottenham Hotspur. Given they then face trips to Arsenal and Chelsea, it’s clear that Advocaat wants to seal his side’s survival as quickly as possible, bearing in mind that a draw against the Foxes wouldn’t be enough to clinch survival due to Hull’s superior goal difference. In the event that the Wearsiders triumph over Nigel Pearson’s men, those managers who invested in Sunderland for the double will hope that Hull emerge victorious at White Hart Lane, therefore giving Advocaat’s side everything to play for at the Emirates. Conversely, should Sunderland clinch their survival prior to midweek, it’s arguable that they’ll be a little less motivated for the Arsenal clash, thus boosting the Gunners’ prospects for Wednesday’s showdown.

2FT and 71pts clear in my mini league - nearest rival has no ARS/SUN or W/C (!?!?)

    Current team:
    Mignotlet
    Morgan Alderweireld PvA
    Sanchez Silva Ramsey Hazard
    Kane Giroud Aguero
    (Myhill Hendo Duff Moreno)

Very reluctant to shift Kane before Hull as they have to play to win.
Hendo -> Larsson and Moreno -> Kolorov?
Or do I chuck Giroud and Hendo for a Sunderland fwd and Cazorla?

Never a fan of benching of playing a defender over an attacker however with doubts over Hazards gametime, Terry pushing to break his goalscoring record and Skrtel at home to Palace I think this is the week to play a defender.

Hello people. What do you make of this?

    Panti
    Pva Cresswell Ivan
    Sanchez Ozil Henderson Adam
    Giroud Aguero Vardy

    Schmeichel Hazard Schlupp Chester

    1ft, 0 in the bank.

Thinking Adam to Gomez is my best bet, keeping Haz on bench ready for the final game. Any other/better ideas?

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Who has something left to play for? If so what?

And who, like me, has a little bit of and end of term feel to the season as goals have either been achieved or unachievable.

(I've won my cash minileagues, have no chance of winning FPL or catching the likes of Greenwindmill in the mods and contributors leagues and am likely to finish somewhere between 1,000 and 3,000 in the overall rankings.)

I am second in a cash minileague with £1000 first prize (£500 for 2nd). 31 points off the top. I also have a £100 bet with my friend that I will end in the top 1k, which was made in GW1. Currently 905th.

My Arsenal picks are differentials to his. My Alexis, Ozil, Caz vs his Alexis, Ramsey, Ospina. He only has PVA whereas I have PVA and Panti. I have Silva and he doesn't. It's my Ivanovic vs his Bertrand. To be honest I'm quietly confident.

Still have 3 mini leagues with cash/prizes. 1 is won and the other 2 both contain the same rival. If he was beating me by 55 points I'd admit defeat but as I'm leading I still don't consider it won.

Not having Aguero last week ended my season - a calculated risk to catch Simon March that finally caught up with me on the fixture I dreaded

I guess some people would kill to be ranked 34th - but when you are in the top 3 with a few weeks to go it all seems pretty meaningless now...

To get him back in would have caused a lot of disruption. Just needed Benteke to stay round about his total which obviously didn't happen. Risk was long term based on Aguero being challenged more by Bony for points or becoming injured.

79 points above my ML rival in 2 leagues so they are basically won.

Current OR is 9000 so just need to stay within the top 10k really.

    Play.....

    A) Henderson (CPL)
    B) Adam (bur)

Adam on set pieces and pens, Hendo not with Gerrard around.

        Posted earlier...

        Panti
        Pva Cresswell Ivan
        Sanchez Ozil Henderson Adam
        Giroud Aguero Vardy

        Schmeichel Hazard Schlupp Chester

        1ft, 0 in bank.

Thinking Adam to Gomez is my best bet, keeping Haz on bench ready for the final game. Any other/better ideas?

Oh, I asked for your team to see who could you bench in order to play both Hendo and Adam.

I'd actually start Hazard over Hendo, more than likely you will get Hendo off the bench in case. If Hazard doesn't play then he won't come on for a cameo.

Although I think I'd do Adam -> Gomez, at least you can play Hendo over him in GW38

Hendo does still take some set pieces with Gerrard on the pitch. Such as the corner which Gerrard got his header from last week. Not on pens though which might have been what you were saying

If Sunderland stay up, predictions for PvA's starting value? Personally can't see it being anything other than 4.5, I'd certainly snap him up again at that price (assuming he is a starter).

Agree. 4.5 at most and will be first name in my pre season draft.

Yep, can't see him being 4.0 but definitely not 5.0.

He's only on 68 points, which is near the bottom of the second page of defenders when listed in the Transfer page.

Comparing his price against others around there, he definitely shouldn't be more than 4.5 unless there is a huge increase in the overall defender costs

Yeah agreed. Although I think they'll take into account his injury and his ppg. But yes 5.0 would be very far fetched imo

    Mignolet (Myhill)

Schlupp, Van Aanholt, Terry, Alderweireld, (Stones)

    Sanchez, Hazard, Sterling, (Bolasie, Boyd)

    Aguero, Giroud, Kane

What would you do to this team? It all depends on who Arsenal #3 is.

I had a dream that Hull will beat Tottenham 0:2. Chester will score 2nd goal.

Chester is on my bench, not sure should I play him instead one of Koscielny, Terry or Toby.

Do we genuinely believe Gareth Bale will be forced out of Real Madrid after last night? He seems to be the scapegoat every time Real loses. Personally, I think they way his fans treat him, he should leave. Also I think he would be performing better if he was bought for 60M rather than 100M. Too much pressure of being the most expensive player.

If he leaves, where do we think he'll go?

I think he would be performing at the same level if bought for 60m, its the price tag thats giving him this bad rep. Hes not had a bad season by any means.

Reminds me of Flo when he signed for Rangers. It was a record £12m and he is still to this day branded a flop but when you look at the stats theyre not the worst -

      Apps 53
      Goals 29

I think associated price makes the expectation for these players is too high

That's an interesting point. Come to think of it, he hasn't had that bad a season. He can do much better but not a bad season I agree. It's just the fans who keep giving him stick when they should be encouraging him.
