With the 2014/15 season behind us and anticipation for the new campaign building, it’s time to reveal the latest update to our Live Hall of Fame standings and the Top 10 best managers amongst the Fantasy Football Scout community.

The Hall of Fame (HoF) is a ranking system which we apply to everyone who takes part in our Fantasy Premier League (FPL) mini-leagues – both the free and the members league. Basically, this tracks the performances of every manager over each of the seasons they have participated and awards a “HoF rating” accordingly – the “Career” version of the Hall of Fame is viewable to all via this link.

If you’re wondering what the HoF is all about, you can read the FAQ below for a quick guide. Alternatively, you can view this movie to listen to Mark and its creator, Chris Atkinson, talk you through it.

The Hall of Fame Top 10

Ville Ronka retains his spot at the top of the Hall of Fame after cementing 277th place in the overall FPL rankings in 2014/15. This was his fourth top-1,000 FPL finish – indeed, in his seven seasons as a FPL manager, Ville has never finished outside of the top 5,000. During 2014/15, he took just five hits as he once again justified his tag as FPL’s top performing manager.

Nick (aka Triggerlips) notched up his fourth top-1,000 finish in FPL with a rank of 592 at the end of the 2014/15 season. This propelled him from sixth in our HoF rankings at the end of last season to second this year. After a poor first three seasons from 2007/8 to 2009/10, in which his lowest FPL finish in the rankings was 223,632, his last five years have been nothing short of remarkable, with a rank of 35th spot in 2012/13 the pinnacle.

Another to finish in the top 1,000 in 2014/15 is Mustafa Bialk, who leaps from 11th spot in our HoF at the end of last season to third this time round. As with Nick, he is another to find the right formula for success after a slow start to his Fantasy management career. After failing to breach the top 10,000 in his first four years, a finish of 317th in 2011/12 lit the touch paper for success. Since then, his end-of-season FPL rankings were 1,002, 310 and 456 in 2014/15.

One of the biggest climbers in our HoF is Martin Button, who moves from 25th place to fourth after finishing in 266th place in FPL in 2014/15. In nine years, this was his highest FPL finish and his third top-1,000 rank. A blip in 2013/14 where he finished in 18,376 is the only time he has failed to make the top 5,000 in FPL since 2008/9.

Derek Simpson is another riser, moving from 17th to fifth after finishing in 593rd spot in 2014/15. In eight seasons, this was his third highest placing, after ending up in 38th place in 2012/13 and 500th in 2009/10.

The ascent of Simon Walsh is incredible. He moves from 82nd to sixth in our end of season HoF rankings after finishing 95th in FPL at the end of 2014/15. In his four years as an FPL manager, he has ranks of 711, 16, 103 and, incredibly, 38th in his debut campaign.

Alianto Henry shoots into the top ten in our Hall of Fame from 51st to seventh. His 2014/15 rank of 164 was his second highest in five seasons playing FPL. As with Simon Walsh he is another fast learner, having finished his debut 2010/11 campaign with a rank of 23.

In eight is Martin Gupta, who is another dramatic climber in our Hall of Fame, after finishing with a HoF rank of 53 at the end of the 2013/14 campaign. The 2014/15 season saw his third top-1,000 finish in four seasons as an FPL manager. Martin’s debut FPL end-of-season rank of 46th in 2011/12 is his highest finish so far.

Craig Johnson (aka Bouncebackability) moves from 71st to ninth in our HoF rankings. His highest end-of-season finish of 64 in 2014/15 after nine years as an FPL manager was the reason for his ascent. Since starting in 2006/7, he has six top-5,000 finishes under his belt.

In tenth is Jon Sumner (aka Jinswick), who gave the 2014/15 Champion Simon March a real run for his money on the final Gameweek of the season. His decision to draft in hat-trick hero Theo Walcott pushed him to second in the overall FPL rankings. This means he is our HoF top ten’s highest climber, having finished in 338th place at the end of the 2013/14 season.

Honourable Mentions…

Matthew Martyniak (aka “Spiderm4tt”) leads the charge for the former FPL Champions. He has done his upmost to dispel the myth of that “difficult second season” once claiming the crown: he sits in 15th spot in the rankings, having built on his 2012/13 title victory with strong finishes of 995 in 203/14 and 731 last season.

This season’s champion, Simon March (aka “Dufflinks”), ranks next in 37th – his strongest finish prior to this past season was a rank of 3833 back in 2012/13.

The 2010/11 Champion, Chris McGurn returned a healthy rank of 4205 in the last campaign, boasting his HoF rating and climbing just inside the top 100 in 99th spot. Chris has finished inside the top 10,000 in every season since he was introduced to the FPL back in 2008/09.

Tom Fenley’s form hasn’t been quite so consistent. The 2013/14 champion famously committed Wildcard suicide this past season, a factor which contributed to an FPL finish of 11709, dropping his HoF rank to 737th.

Hall of Fame FAQ

How is my rating calculated?
The “HoF Rating” is based on your points scores from previous FPL seasons, with the latest season weighted the heaviest and each corresponding season weighted at roughly 70% that of the previous season. So, in other words, those who performed best in 2014/15 will receive a bigger HoF Rating boost from those who did best in 2006/07. The “HoF Ranking” even allows for those with missing years, adapting the formula accordingly to allow these managers to rank alongside the veterans of the FPL.

How do I join the Hall of Fame
Simply sign up to our leagues next season, either the Fantasy Football Scout Classic League or, if you’re a member, the Members Classic League – the code will available on the dashboard of the Members Area once the FPL game re-opens for registration.

How do I find myself in the Hall of Fame?
The search box at the top of the ranking tables allows you to search by surname or by FPL player ID.

What if I don’t want to be listed?
Either notify us via support@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk or simply leave the Fantasy Football Scout league and you’ll be removed on the next update.

When does the Hall of Fame get updated?
The Career table is available to all and is updated at the end of each season to display the latest rankings. The Live version of the Hall of Fame is updated regularly using the latest season data.

The Development of the Hall of Fame

Chris Atkinson, the creator of the Hall of Fame, has been working on some ideas to tweak the algorithm involved.

We’ve not yet implemented these changes and, instead, we plan to publish a follow-up article to talk through the proposals and gather your feedback.

Look out for this article last this week – we welcome your views.

Just a heads up, I was thinking about our striking options. J-Rod is the obvious one to come back from injury. But there's also big Sam Gallagher, all 6ft 4 of him. He had a serious injury last season and when he returned in Feb/March, Koeman was keen to rehabilitate him in the U21s, before coming back to the first team. You'd think, with a week before the international players rejoin the squad (Schneiderlin was injured when France were last on duty so that's why he was around today), this would be Gallagher's chance to impress.

He finished last season with this peach of a strike in the U21 PL cup final.

Depends how much money we get for him, I'd guess. Juanmi's in, as you say, and I think Koeman would be keen to give Juanmi and Gallagher opportunities to develop, being 22 and 19.

get lambert back! I wonder if pelle shows his first half of the season form, rather than his 2nd half form. didn't he hit the woodwork a ridiculous amount of times? you should be ok especially as you say j-rod coming back, shane long plus mane can play up top. though if you get the £25 mill for sneiderlin then maybe koeman will spend big up front

Lambert wouldn't be good enough now, the clock is ticking on his career, unfortunately. And yes, Pelle did hit the woodwork A LOT.

We will replace Schneiderlin - I'd expect £15m to go towards that. That would leave a bit for forward investment but I'm not sure Koeman's interested.

6 times, exactly, that did not go in off the post. That's a bit high number, but from 123 shot not incredibly unlikely. Depends a lot on where he shoots from and how. We should not be surprised for him to underachieve season after season, has been his habit. He's not a top level player, very simply.

If he's not a top level player, he's clearly not 'underachieving'. Underachieving implies he's not reaching a standard he is capable of 😛 He's just not capable of a very high level. Nevertheless, he contributes to the team in ways FPL players underestimate. I'd love us to sign a proven PL striker but I don't think it's going to happen.

No, here underachieving means simply relative to what you'd expect on average from any striker in situation. See the expected goals article below.

No it isn't. It's just what I said. The point made on two seasons in a row before it is that there is very little correlation with goals/goalsexp from one season to another. So, on that basis, unless Kane proves to be fecking amazing scorer, and unless Pelle is a total donkey, we should not expect them to carry their situation adjusted conversion rates from this season to next - but there's also a possibility that Kane is better than average scorer and Pelle worse than average and I'm ready to bet on that possibility. But that was not in the equation in the article.

granted pelle isn't near the aguero, benzema etc level but he did get something like 50 goals in 55 games for feyenoord (albeit in a weaker league) and has broken into the Italian squad. I think in a team that got loads of crosses in then he would thrive with his aerial ability

That he has broken into Italian squad tells how steep their fall is. Pelle scored 1 goal in his whole Serie A career, added a couple in Serie B. He even hardly scored in Eredivisie, where defences are shite and goals are given for free, until Koeman put him upfront in his very dominant Feyenoord team with a strategy to cross like crazy men, hoofing ball after another from the flank in front of the goal where Pelle was getting chance after chance after chance. That's the secret of his two good Eredivisie seasons.

yeah I know soton have a ridiculously good history of bringing through players such as bale, theo, the ox, chambers, shaw etc but they do still buy players. someone like bamford or Wilson on loan, with the option to buy at the end of the season could still be good business, especially if there was a set agreed price before the loan ie bamford £8 mill. he's the sort of player that could be a great signing. probably not gonna want to sit on Chelsea bench and he's proved himself, albeit in the championship

players like bamford and Wilson are in that no mans land area in football. play for top CL clubs yet playing in a position that means they are competing with superstars such as rooney, costa, RVP, falcoa etc so unless they are as great as Robbie fowler or take their chance in a way that you cant possibly leave them out ie kane last season, then I just cant see how they would break into the starting XI. if I was a manager at a mid/lower prem team, I'd always look for the young fringe players from the top 4 or 5, to get cheaply. ie when villa got scott Sinclair for small change

They might do well but the team would suffer.

I think Koeman's more likely to employ JRod in the same way Pochettino did - out wide and then cutting in when play reaches the final third. JRod was immensely successful at doing that and he played off a big man with good link up play (Lambert), just like Pelle.

Southampton seem to get hit particularly though. It was great that you had such a great season last year after losing some of the your players. Hopefully do well again next year.

We've only really been hit last summer (after finishing 8th) and this summer (after finishing 7th). When we were relegation threatened the season before, not a lot happened 😀

Not thus far. Billy Gilmore's got the UEFA Council stuff to organise so I guess this will be on the back burner for a bit. And I've got to work out a foursome equivalent (as you'll have read).

True thats the problem with success, it tends to bring attention, some of which may be unwanted. Hopefully will still finish 7th at the minimum and perhaps even higher.

Fair enough, hopefully will happen at some stage. The World Cup Tournament last year was brilliant. Really enjoyed that and would be great to have another tournament to participate in.

I don't think that's relevant here. He only looks at the season 2014-2015, and uses average expectations. There are natural differences in this depending on players. I'd bet Aguero "overachieves" year after year. It means he's good at shooting. Which may surprise some. 😉

Koeman was a legend - would have been brill in FF with ~10 goals/season for a defender. He thumped his free kicks, can't see wee JWP generating the same force.

didn't koeman score 33 goals in 99 games for barca? absolutely ridiculous stats. yeah i'd put koeman as one of the best ever free kick takers along with off the top of my head del piero, mihailovic, beckham, messi, zico and the lyon junihno who was probably the best ever. plus of course koeman scored the only goal from a free kick in the European cup final! de pay could be worth looking at this season. 7 free kicks scored in dutch league last season, the most in europe

Sinisa scored a hat-trick of free kicks once

also once heard a story that he was bet by a team mate that he couldn't hit the crossbar with 3 out of 5 free kicks and that he didn't need the last 2 gos

Apparently big Jack Charlton would hit the crossbar with practically every shot while showing the Ireland team how it was done in training. I must say, I like strikers who place their shots liw and out of the keepers reach, e.g Neymar, Messi. Don't like strikers who wallop the ball, hence no fan of crossbar stats.

At the moment City are weak enough regarding cover in the midfield after Lampard and Milner left so he might get a few games at least.

was talking to a villa fan today for their views-not the end of the world
-view from fans was that delph has to become more disciplined-goes missing-continues to be a problem
-view from fans was he can be a bit 'vague'(kind term)when it comes to precise passing
-if he did leave it'd bye bye to any england place

think I must be one of the only one's who doesnt rate delph. fairplay to him for getting in England team but I don't think he's good enough for a top 5 club

No, you're not alone there at all.

I really don't see the fascination either, but sadly probably one of the best England has right now. A bit like being the best cricketer in Afghanistan.

My post on Koeman got me thinking of an all time Dutch XI, I think it would look something like

    _________Van Der Sar________

    __Koeman, Stam, F. De Boer__

    Krol_______________Muhren__

    ______Rijkaard, Gullit________

    ________Cryuff___________

    __Van Basten, Berkgamp__

Much better than the other targets of Ralph Koeman, Frank Gullit & Sales Rep.

Is koeman going to stay at Saints. I know he fancies the the holland job and he is a very popular candidate for the job.

It's alright, IE has been predicting our downfall. Apparently we'll drop to 10th-13th this season and then further because Koeman will leave. I'm not taking him too seriously 😀 (no offence IE 😉 )

I can see situation A happening because of the EL but dropping further seems unrealistic, considering our academy, investment, ownership, facilities etx.

A few interesting attacking stats for 'heavy hitter' defenders during all competitions last season:

    Ivanovic - 8 goals, 5 assists

    Terry - 8 goals, 2 assists

    Baines - 4 goals, 13 assists

    By comparison:

    Ramos - 8 goals, 1 assist

Ramos certainly has goal threat and I can see him being priced quite highly if the deal goes through.

graham hunter has spoken on twalkspwart
-only one bid has been made for ramos-not 2-and after hearing of its size ramos asked the club to start talking to them as it was serious
-ramos wants out -only to manu-this is not a bidding war or move to get a better deal where he is
-ramos will be wrapped up(may be not de g)before they go on their preseason to aus on july 11 as the waiter on the plane will not tolerate this hanging over

Does anyone know anything about Adem Ljajic at Roma? There is talk that Roma may be buying Dzeko and are looking to use him Ljajic as part exchange. Is he any good?

It would definitely have to go the other way around: Dzeko as a part exchange for Ljajic.

citeh short of strikers shocker-ljajic not a striker-jovetic treated like something thats smells by pellegrini-j g thorwn overboard to sell his goods at the under 21s.....the usual lack of planning....

Jovetic was treated poor but he cant seem to stay injury free. Possibly need a forward but Dzeko is so frustrating maybe a good replacement might be a good idea.

About a month before the season starts, at 4 AM to avoid the site crashing (for too many visitors) when they open it.
