With West Brom and City set to play out the Gameweek tonight, the injuries have largely been kept to a minimum in this opening round of fixtures. Arsenal’s in-form right-back is expected to return imminently, though Everton are set to be without Leighton Baines after the England defender’s ankle injury played up again.

Arsenal
Hector Bellerin missed Arsenal’s home defeat by West Ham yesterday but is likely to return by the weekend, according to Arsene Wenger:

“Bellerin has a slight muscular injury, it’s only a question of days.”

The club’s official twitter account rolled out an update on Olivier Giroud after the Frenchman sustained a head knock in the 2-0 defeat. Arsenal have moved to deny reports that Giroud was knocked unconscious, with the forward returning home as normal after the encounter.

Everton
The Toffees are set to be without Leighton Baines for a period of time after the left-back suffered a recurrence of the ankle injury that forced him to miss the end of last season. Roberto Martinez issued the following update:

“Everything had been perfect in Leighton’s programme and he worked extremely hard in pre-season. He looked refreshed, he looked strong and he look at a really, really good level. Then, in training, he blocks a ball and it hits him exactly in the same area where he had surgery, with the unfortunate result that he’s going to be out for a while. It’s one of those tough moments that you have to take as a player but he knows we’re going to help him immensely, everyone will support him and we have to make the most of his other role, which is to be part of the group and be a leader while he’s getting back to full fitness.”

Martinez also went on to discuss Kevin Mirallas’ fitness after the Belgian was subbed off in the second period, having picked up a knock in a challenge with Watford’s Valon Behrami:

“He wanted to stay on the pitch, clearly. But he had a really nasty tackle and we’re going to be assessing him in the next 48 hours. He tried to stay on, he couldn’t and now we’ll see what the extent of the injury is.”

Leicester
Claudio Ranieri eased fears over an injury to Ritchie de Laet after the Foxes weekend win over Sunderland. Post-match, the Italian confirmed the right-back was withdrawn due to cramp, rather than injury.

Man United
Phil Jones missed United’s home win over Spurs due to blood clotting. The centre-half is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks.

Newcastle
Steve McClaren suggested that Vurnon Anita’s back injury may not be as bad as first feared after the midfielder was stretchered off against Southampton yesterday:

“Vurnon is ok and he’s walking around normally. We will assess it this week.”

Stoke City
Mark Hughes confirmed he had to replace left-back Erik Pieters at the break against Liverpool yesterday due to illness:

“Erik was ill at half-time and wasn’t able to come back out for the second half. That is something that will resolve itself very quickly I’m sure, but I haven’t had an update from the medical staff yet. Touch wood he will be ok to join in training with the rest of the guys early next week.”

The Potters boss went on to admit that Bojan Krkic is still around a fortnight away from making a top-flight return. The Spaniard continues to step up his fitness after being sidelined since January with a knee injury:

“He definitely needs another couple of weeks because he isn’t quite up to speed for Premier League football just yet. He would have loved to have been involved I’m sure, but we want to make sure he is fit and ready when we do bring him back into the squad. I’m sure it won’t be long until he is ready and available to go again.”

Swansea
Ki Sung-Yeung is a slight doubt after picking up a hamstring problem towards the end of the first-half of Saturday’s draw at Chelsea. Garry Monk remains optimistic on his prospects of making the Gameweek 2 home clash with Newcastle:

“Ki has a slight twinge in his hamstring, but it is nothing serious and hopefully he will be ready for the next game”.

The Swans have also confirmed that Jefferson Montero was withdrawn due to cramp in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge after tormenting Branislav Ivanovic for much of the match.

Tottenham
Danny Rose was unavailable for the trip to Old Trafford after sustaining a “slight quad injury”, allowing Ben Davies to start at left-back.

seriously guys..if you have no injuries or suspensions, you may as well keep your FT.

one GW =/= form, don't hop on a random bandwagon and waste your transfers.

I don't want to give misinformation so I want answer definitively, but Wenger did say he would pick and choose his attackers based on the opponent, and PERHAPS Walcott is the kind of player he'd want against a highly attacking Palace

I advised ppl to do this today.. then realised that everyone on here is my rival and the more FTs/Hits/WCs used the better.
And I was not really helping the posters i like either since they are sensible and wont consider such things unless absolutely necessary 😉

Given all the good midfield attacking players at Arsenal. Why does Wenger play Ozil? Seriously. If a youth team product was so poor for so long, they'd be out on loan to some wee team like Spurs

Alright, here are the main dilemmas

    A) Regarding Oxford
He has a 50/50 chance of starting next match but he won't play more than 10 games this season. With the addition of Joey Barton and considering his age this shouldn't be a surprise. But those who had him GW1... Good work. I'd say we stay away from him unless you want to take the risk.

    B) Swans Attackers
Swansea's domination over Chelsea showed they are a great team. Ayew, Gomis and Montero were their standout performers, even Shelvey. Gomis will get many chances but may fail to convert due to his mediocre finishing. Ayew looks like a versatile winger who wants to score, and will get goals over the course of the season. Montero and Shelvey offer cheaper alternatives. However I would go for Ayew or Gomis. Personally Ayew for me.

    C) West Ham
2 juicy home fixtures consecutively against Leicester and Bournemouth shows we have to get an attacker from this team. Kouyatè offers a cheap pick but I'm more into Payet and Sakho. Payet looks like the real deal, against Arsenal and throughout pre season he has continued to impress. He will get loads of assists throughout the season guaranteed however whether we want to get him as a £7.5m midfield option or hope for Sakho to be the outcome of his work at only £6.5m is a coin flip. Both will get you points but I would stick with Sakho if you already have him. As for doubling up... It would be a risk.

    D) Joe Gomez (Liverpool)
Gomez has impressed over pre season and in the first premier league match after getting the nod to play LB over Moreno. He did get an assist however it was a sideward pass to Coutinho who did all the work so I don't think Rodgers would be considering that. However I think it is safe to say that Gomez will hold onto that LB position until a dreadful performance as Rodgers has enjoyed playing young players consistently. A good pick personally.

"Regarding Oxford. He has a 50/50 chance of starting next match but he won't play more than 10 games this season"...this is based on what evidence?

I feel he has a 50/50 chance as he performed well in his first premier league game and may get the nod to continue his form. However the other 50 is due to his age and a potential new signing. I don't think he will play more than 10 games this season personally.
None of this is hard fact though

Swansea did not 'dominate' Chelsea. It was an even game that either side could have won. Chelsea even looked the more likely with 10 men for a good 20mins of the second half. Maybe you're a rival fan though eh? Spurs? Arsenal? Manchester club?

Oh my god, you're right (I just went back and checked)
          Your only changes were

          Ki > Mahrez (well played!)
Wilson > Sakho (typical Hammers fan)
          Fabianski > Butland (fair enough)
          Fonte > Williams (meh)

and I believe you had a freebee for your 4.0 mil defender anyway, so well played, sir!

Well, Inter was about to sign him back in may, they had a couple of meetings with his agent and then they passed on him. Which usually means he's a good/great player who's going to do very well in another team.

          Funny thing

I was talking with Doolitle on Saturday whilst that match was on and he said Montero looked good.

I said yes he does but he reminds me of Pablo, brilliant but you never know when he'll get injured

Right at that moment, his hamstring went.

watched him play in france. Very combative, extremely good with headers, can play a lot of different positions. The likeliest player to score the equalizer or winning goal at the 90th minute.

yeah I decided to start with Kun and Kolarov..former obviously being less risky, but gut says that Clichy is firmly 2nd choice now (beyond his injury) as opposed to the earlier 50/50 rotation

WBA just signed Rondon, Stoke signed Shaqiri, like we needed more midprice options

We need more centre forwards because Kun is the only decent option at the moment

Chelsea will appeal the red card dished out to Thibaut Courtois at the weekend in the 2-2 draw with Swansea City after he was deemed to be the last man by referee Michael Oliver.

Hazard + Walcott > Ayew + Sanchez this week for -4?

Leaving 2.5m itb for Rooney > Aguero for week 3 for free.

You really want Sanchez? hasn't started yet and didn't do well last season when Giroud and Ozil were in the team.

Looking at him. I may just do the Wally one for free and take the hit next. See how Sanchez goes.
