Yaya Toure scores twice as City sweep aside West Brom at the Hawthorns. David Silva chips in with an assist, whilst Sergio Aguero steps up his match fitness with a second-half cameo off the bench.

Toure brace propels Blues to summit

Yaya Toure reaffirmed his heavy-hitting potential with a first-half brace against an overwhelmed Baggies outfit. Granted, the Ivorian’s first goal was very fortuitous – despite David Silva getting a touch, the Fantasy Premier League attributed the goal to the Ivorian and the assist to Jesus Navas. There were no such doubts over his second, though, as he curled a sublime effort into the top corner. Although Toure had to be substituted after 80 minutes with a slight groin strain, manager Manuel Pellegrini later revealed that he expects him to be fit to face Chelsea next Gameweek.

With most Fantasy managers turning their sights towards Raheem Sterling (22% ownership) or David Silva (10%) for their Sky Blues coverage, Toure (6%) proved to be a high-impact differential. Nonetheless, Silva showcased more than enough to suggest that his 10.0 price tag is worth the outlay, orchestrating the midfield with effortless poise and bagging an assist in the process. Sterling, meanwhile, fluffed a gilt-edged one-on-one chance, yet his pace in behind carries the promise of attacking returns.

Sergio Aguero was handed a 28-minute cameo as he gears up for a potential start against Chelsea on Sunday. Given the typically tight nature of that match-up (four goals in two head-to-heads last term), non-owners might be tempted hold off on recruiting the Argentinian marksman until Gameweek 3 (eve) or even Gameweek 4 (WAT), before City embark on a fantastic run of fixtures up to Gameweek nine (cry, WHY, tot, NEW, BOU).

Vincent Kompany (6.0) cemented the three points with a commanding header just before the hour mark. While City’s quartet of home ties after the Chelsea fixture look conducive to clean sheets, Aleksandar Kolarov (5.5) arguably presents a stronger case for inclusion in Gael Clichy’s absence, given that the Serbian full-back took precedence over Toure at free-kicks and ranked top for goal attempts (three) among defenders in Gameweek 1.

Baggies slump in home opener

Tony Pulis’ troops were comprehensively outclassed at the Hawthorns, falling to their second consecutive 3-0 defeat at the hands of City. Saido Berahino – who lined up alongside Rickie Lambert in a 4-4-2 set-up – had his moments and was denied a goal by virtue of the offside flag. It remains to be seen how club-record signing Salomon Rondon will slot into the forward line, particularly with question marks surrounding Berahino’s future.

James McClean was favoured in the left-wing role by Tony Pulis, meaning Chris Brunt was deployed in the left-back berth – starving us of a Baggies defensive option. With a home clash against Chelsea just around the corner, many non-owners of the Baggies backline will be persuaded to steer clear until the schedule takes a turn for the better from Gameweek 4 onwards.

Bottomed. Palace are terrific at set-pieces. For that I believe Giroud will start up top again. Walcott will play insead of Ox imo not instead of Giroud.

Ox was Arsenal's best attacker by a long way on Sunday. In all hounesty I can see Ramsey being dropped but for Sanchez, not Walcott.

    Considering my original plan was:
    GW2:Save
    GW3:Koscielny+Benteke-->5.5+Sakho
    GW4:Rooney-->Aguero

Should I do Koscielny-->Darmian this GW?

I wouldn't dump Kos. The Arse defence was a bit sluggish and the keeper dodgy but it was just GW1. Don't expect a repeat.
Darmian's worth getting but at someone else's expense.

I think that until Mertesacker is dropped, the Arsenal defence is a major concern. Also their next 3 fixtures I am not expecting clean sheets. I would expect 2 out of 3 for Untied with their fixtures.

Really. I also have Koscielny and am looking to ship him for a 5.5m to fund a move for Aguero. I don't trust Arsenal to keep clean sheets until Mertesacker is dropped.

I'm not too happy with Koscielny either, I had Skrtel all pre-season and for some reason got lured into Arsenal's defence on Friday.

But not worth a crucial transfer at this stage.

Oxford is okay as your team's 4.0 if you need the money; no player at that price is nailed anyway, Oxford included, so he's probably the best of a bad lot. I wouldn't have Oxford and Gomez together for that reason. Silva to Sterling or an 8.5 and upgrade the defence. Or Silva to Mane and upgrade both the defence and Gomis/Magrez.

No Chelsea defence will cost you long term but ok for now.

Huth. Although it's close. Richards more likely to get injured and cause you a headache, although he is probably more nailed when he's fit (captain, after all). Both seem 100% nailed, to be honest. Huth for goal threat.

How many times in the last 4-5 years has the most expensive mid been the pick of the mids?

Unless i get advice from this site I never change a player based on points In the week before. I have to be persuaded by performance as well. Therefore Payet, Cabaye the Ox and Silva are my only considerations this GW. The Ox is may not start even after a good game and Silva playing Chelsea and Cabaye hard games to come so If I use an FT it will be Payet.

Save and have more flexibility next week. In general save unless there is some obvious trouble.

I tend to save unless my players are losing value

I basically planned for Payet week 2. I could use WC then and don't want a transfer miss and losing money.

FISO had three players rising last night, and they didn't so I think we can discount them for the time being

I see more people getting rid of Walcott than Sterling despite having both?

Can't get my head around it, Sterling looked lacklustre against a weak West Brom defence and has Chelsea next week?

There will always be a uncertainty around Walcott, that's why. And also,City are playing better than Arsenal.

    This is my defence:
    Mignolet (Henn)
    Kosc, Williams, Coates (Huth, Francis)

To get my tv kickstarted I'm mulling over selling Francis
    (a) Gomez or
    (b) Oxford

I will start whichever one I get instead of Coates. I prefer Gomez but that would mean a defensive double up with Minolete. Am I better off buying Oxford but he seems less nailed on than Gomez.

    Thoughts & thanks.
