Yaya Toure scores twice as City sweep aside West Brom at the Hawthorns. David Silva chips in with an assist, whilst Sergio Aguero steps up his match fitness with a second-half cameo off the bench.

Toure brace propels Blues to summit

Yaya Toure reaffirmed his heavy-hitting potential with a first-half brace against an overwhelmed Baggies outfit. Granted, the Ivorian’s first goal was very fortuitous – despite David Silva getting a touch, the Fantasy Premier League attributed the goal to the Ivorian and the assist to Jesus Navas. There were no such doubts over his second, though, as he curled a sublime effort into the top corner. Although Toure had to be substituted after 80 minutes with a slight groin strain, manager Manuel Pellegrini later revealed that he expects him to be fit to face Chelsea next Gameweek.

With most Fantasy managers turning their sights towards Raheem Sterling (22% ownership) or David Silva (10%) for their Sky Blues coverage, Toure (6%) proved to be a high-impact differential. Nonetheless, Silva showcased more than enough to suggest that his 10.0 price tag is worth the outlay, orchestrating the midfield with effortless poise and bagging an assist in the process. Sterling, meanwhile, fluffed a gilt-edged one-on-one chance, yet his pace in behind carries the promise of attacking returns.

Sergio Aguero was handed a 28-minute cameo as he gears up for a potential start against Chelsea on Sunday. Given the typically tight nature of that match-up (four goals in two head-to-heads last term), non-owners might be tempted hold off on recruiting the Argentinian marksman until Gameweek 3 (eve) or even Gameweek 4 (WAT), before City embark on a fantastic run of fixtures up to Gameweek nine (cry, WHY, tot, NEW, BOU).

Vincent Kompany (6.0) cemented the three points with a commanding header just before the hour mark. While City’s quartet of home ties after the Chelsea fixture look conducive to clean sheets, Aleksandar Kolarov (5.5) arguably presents a stronger case for inclusion in Gael Clichy’s absence, given that the Serbian full-back took precedence over Toure at free-kicks and ranked top for goal attempts (three) among defenders in Gameweek 1.

Baggies slump in home opener

Tony Pulis’ troops were comprehensively outclassed at the Hawthorns, falling to their second consecutive 3-0 defeat at the hands of City. Saido Berahino – who lined up alongside Rickie Lambert in a 4-4-2 set-up – had his moments and was denied a goal by virtue of the offside flag. It remains to be seen how club-record signing Salomon Rondon will slot into the forward line, particularly with question marks surrounding Berahino’s future.

James McClean was favoured in the left-wing role by Tony Pulis, meaning Chris Brunt was deployed in the left-back berth – starving us of a Baggies defensive option. With a home clash against Chelsea just around the corner, many non-owners of the Baggies backline will be persuaded to steer clear until the schedule takes a turn for the better from Gameweek 4 onwards.

Thinking of saving, then selling Ivan for a cheaper defender and upgrading Ozil to either Alexis or Silva in gw3. Gw2 will inform future plans. Already have Sakho and Hazard, so I feel my real need is for another explosive player on a high scoring team, Silva or Sanchez.

Re; Demi's stat on Mangala on last page.. City has never lost a PL game when Mangala + Demichelis started as CB's together (11-3-0)

    Captain this week?

Rooney, Benteke, Sakho, Mane or Walcott are my options

Posted this on Friday but it was so hectic I doubt anyone saw it. Fantasy YIRMA have asked me to write a weekly piece, a kind of diary of an FPL addict. This was the first:
    http://fantasyyirma.com/2015/08/07/if-arsenal-sign-benzema-ill-have-to-start-my-fantasy-football-team-again/

With a 1.3m start, the 2nd may be despairing...

I enjoyed it 🙂 . I bookmarked the page will there be an article every Friday ? . I have a strong FPL affinity with Theo, and the lure is strong, but with Ozil’s, Cazorla’s and Ramsey’s starts being more assured . Maybe I should have read it on Friday ðŸ™

Cheers mate, it will be every week, not sure if Friday each time (though likely).

I was really happy with my team, and only Rooney and Azpi returned anything. Treating it as a bit of a one off.

I had Rooney , Azpi and Cedric and despite having an extra assist I am two points worse off . That Westwood assist on my bench would have been useful but Theo got his 20 mins of nothing instead

Sakho captain anyone? Or is that too Punty?

Don't trust Rooney. Haz has a hard fixture and Arsenal on paper should win but you never know,

Way too punty for me. I'm not a huge Rooney fan and I'd go with both him and Hazard any day over Sakho.

That said, probably going Kane myself.

I agree that it's very punty, but tbh he looked very lively against Arsenal!

He looked on form, his side looked very good, and he has a great fixture. IMO it's much less punty than the seemingly off form Hazard and Rooney.

I have Ramsey & it seems the consensus on here is that he might be benched this week. Should I sell. This is my team with 1ft & 0.5itb.

    Mignolet (Henn)
    Kosc, Williams, Coates (Huth, Francis)
    Hazard, Silva, Ramsey, Mane, Mahrez
    Rooney, Sakno (Wilson)

    (a) sell Ramsey or
    (b) save ft

    Thanks in advance.

Id save the FT, not a lot of potential replacements came out of GW 1 and wilson is a decent sub to have. Next week will reveal more and having 2 FT will be beneficial. Id hold

People surmising if Sanchez starts one of the m/f will make way & they reckon it should be Ramsey as he wasn't that impressive. I'm from NZ & we don't get the games live on Sky so I didn't see the game. I'm just going off what I read on here.

Can't see it myself. Apart from ozil and Sanchez I reckon he is the most nailed of the arsenal players. It looks as if can has been playing wide left alternating with ozil so to me can looks like he'd be the one to be dropped or possibly coquelin if it was and easier home game.

I wonder if I inderestimated Leicester this season
Although I loved Ranieri at Chelsea and his tinkering I just thought he was a bad choice
this is a guy whos spent the last ten years drifting between clubs (admittedly big clubs)
but when you look at his CV hes managed so many big clubs and most of the time this has been fairly successful.
Maybe i was just biased by his recent spell at Greece which was awful. However i imagine being Greece manager in the current climate is not an easy task as is often the case with managing the big Italian clubs

    1993–1997 Fiorentina
    1997–1999 Valencia

    2000–2004 Chelsea

It won't be changed anymore which is unlucky but nothing you can do about it. Will be a great option to have though and I'm disappointed in myself for not picking him.

Ah thats quite unfortunate, would've been a great differential for gw1 against the FFS faithful, even though I'm still ranked outside the top 1million :O
