Yaya Toure scores twice as City sweep aside West Brom at the Hawthorns. David Silva chips in with an assist, whilst Sergio Aguero steps up his match fitness with a second-half cameo off the bench.

Toure brace propels Blues to summit

Yaya Toure reaffirmed his heavy-hitting potential with a first-half brace against an overwhelmed Baggies outfit. Granted, the Ivorian’s first goal was very fortuitous – despite David Silva getting a touch, the Fantasy Premier League attributed the goal to the Ivorian and the assist to Jesus Navas. There were no such doubts over his second, though, as he curled a sublime effort into the top corner. Although Toure had to be substituted after 80 minutes with a slight groin strain, manager Manuel Pellegrini later revealed that he expects him to be fit to face Chelsea next Gameweek.

With most Fantasy managers turning their sights towards Raheem Sterling (22% ownership) or David Silva (10%) for their Sky Blues coverage, Toure (6%) proved to be a high-impact differential. Nonetheless, Silva showcased more than enough to suggest that his 10.0 price tag is worth the outlay, orchestrating the midfield with effortless poise and bagging an assist in the process. Sterling, meanwhile, fluffed a gilt-edged one-on-one chance, yet his pace in behind carries the promise of attacking returns.

Sergio Aguero was handed a 28-minute cameo as he gears up for a potential start against Chelsea on Sunday. Given the typically tight nature of that match-up (four goals in two head-to-heads last term), non-owners might be tempted hold off on recruiting the Argentinian marksman until Gameweek 3 (eve) or even Gameweek 4 (WAT), before City embark on a fantastic run of fixtures up to Gameweek nine (cry, WHY, tot, NEW, BOU).

Vincent Kompany (6.0) cemented the three points with a commanding header just before the hour mark. While City’s quartet of home ties after the Chelsea fixture look conducive to clean sheets, Aleksandar Kolarov (5.5) arguably presents a stronger case for inclusion in Gael Clichy’s absence, given that the Serbian full-back took precedence over Toure at free-kicks and ranked top for goal attempts (three) among defenders in Gameweek 1.

Baggies slump in home opener

Tony Pulis’ troops were comprehensively outclassed at the Hawthorns, falling to their second consecutive 3-0 defeat at the hands of City. Saido Berahino – who lined up alongside Rickie Lambert in a 4-4-2 set-up – had his moments and was denied a goal by virtue of the offside flag. It remains to be seen how club-record signing Salomon Rondon will slot into the forward line, particularly with question marks surrounding Berahino’s future.

James McClean was favoured in the left-wing role by Tony Pulis, meaning Chris Brunt was deployed in the left-back berth – starving us of a Baggies defensive option. With a home clash against Chelsea just around the corner, many non-owners of the Baggies backline will be persuaded to steer clear until the schedule takes a turn for the better from Gameweek 4 onwards.

Should I play Mahrez (vs West Ham) or Silva (vs Chelsea) for GW2?
I just feel Chelsea will park the bus and there wont be a more than a goal or two in the game.

Which of the premium mids are you focussing on getting?

Realistically, you can have a maximum of 2 from Hazard, Sanchez and Silva, assuming you already have Aguero. Which 2 would you prioritise?

You sir have just practically stolen the team I conjured 😉

Only differences would be the 4.0 (Targett or Oxford) for more chance of starts, and price rises, as well as Ward over Huth, because I don't want to double up on Leicester, and palace have lovely fixtures after this tough run. Don't want to waste a FT getting him in for Huth in a few weeks.

You WCing for that team then? May join you. This is the sort of week where I'll either WC or save a FT. Mad.

              Haha! Great minds 🙂

My finger is poised over the button!! Either that or take a hit. Original team :

              Schmeichal Hen
              Ivan Kos Francis Huth Saylor
              Hazard Walcott Mane Ritchie Fletcher
              Kane Rooney Sahko

              You reckon it's worth it?

Hmm, your team is already in pretty good shape. Aguero is the only issue, fitting him in without a WC or too many hits is awkward.

No Southampton attack is the only issue with the WC team really, and it's what is stopping me from hitting the button. If I were you, I'd strongly consider it.

My team is a little different, already have Aguero and Mahrez, etc.

                Schmeichel Hennessey
                Ivanovic Koscielny Cedric Coates Targett
                Hazard Walcott Chadli Mahrez Westwood
                Aguero Pelle Sakho

I like a lot of the players in that team, and I feel that they could easily out score their potential replacements. Think I may end up saving the FT, then getting Sanchez in for Walcott for free next GW.

If I could afford Pellè over Gomis in that WC team, I'd have hit the button already.

I'd probably WC before GW 4 anyway to load up on man city players.

You could also get Payet instead of Silva and upgrade the defence to iclude Azpi and Darmian/cedric for eg. Would allow you to upgrade Gomis to Pelle too 🙂

Indeed, fair point. May risk it. Let me know if you decide to hit the button.

Only reason I would go for it would be to fit Sanchez and Silva into the same team as Aguero and Hazard.

City's fixtures are lovely after GW4, so I know I'll want Aguero and Silva then. Other option is to get Sterling over Silva, but he didn't look too good.

You don't have to completely ruin your defence to do it. Say something like this:

          Mignolet / McCarthy
Gomez / Darmian or Mertesacker / Cedric / 4.5 Def
Hazard / Sanchez / Silva / Mahrez / 4.5 (Westwood or maybe Anya)
          Aguero

Then you have 12 million for two strikers to pick from the likes of Vardy, Cisse, Berhaino and so on.

So here is how I see it, a balanced team has players from different clubs! The best clubs all need a player from. The best player from these clubs is the way to go!

    Chelsea - hazard
    City - Aguero
    United - Rooney
    Liverpool - Tekkers
    arsenal - Sanchez

    To a lesser extent
    Spurs - Kane
    Saints - mane

Do people feel having all these players is a greater need than good Defenders?
I have hazard, Rooney, mane and tekkers. It is impossible for me to have both Sanchez and Aguero so I am not deciding which one! I hate the idea of not having any cover for the othe club I don't choose but it doesn't seem worth having anyone else but their main man! Opinions guys?

Why didn't Silva get assist for the first goal? It clearly hits him and then hits Dawson. Ridiculous how Rooney gets the assist and Silva doesn't.

To make it worse, it should be a Silva goal, not assist.

It's not an assist because it wasn't an own goal.

Should have been a Silva goal but unfortunately wasn't given. Nothing we can do about it now, any future changes to who was awarded the goal won't be updated in FPL.

So ridiculous. Rooney gets that assist and Silva doesn't even get an assist (or goal) for that.

I'm all about the goalscorers in midfield.

Tadic is a good player but bar his fluke haul early last year, he's not really been an FPL success.

    http://www.evertonfc.com/news/2015/08/11/deulofeu-and-besic-fitness-boost

Roberto Martinez is hopeful Gerard Deulofeu and Muhamed Besic will be able to return from injury at Southampton this weekend.

But Kevin Mirallas will be monitored after hurting his ankle in a nasty-looking challenge by Watford’s Valon Behrami at the weekend.

Deulofeu and Besic both missed the majority of pre-season after being struck down with hamstring problems.

Speaking on Tuesday morning, Martinez said: “Gerard Deulofeu and Mo Besic are very close and it’s about getting them back to their best possible level. Physically we need giving them that introduction but they are close to making the squad for the weekend.”

Martinez felt that Mirallas was lucky not be injured more severely in the tackle by the Hornets’ Swiss midfielder Behrami.

The winger was forced off with 15 minutes of Saturday’s 2-2 draw remaining and although Martinez is hopeful the Belgian has a chance of being fit, the Everton boss admits that it is too early to tell.

He said: “Over the [last] weekend we picked up a worrying knock on Kevin Mirallas. He’s got a bit of a swollen ankle but I’m quite positive in Kevin being fit, even though as it stands now we are going to check and assess him for the weekend.

"It was a very dangerous challenge and if you review the action, he was very fortunate to escape with no major injury.”

Martinez also confirmed that Leighton Baines, Tony Hibbert, Steven Pienaar, Darron Gibson and Aiden McGeady remain on the sidelines and will not be fit for Saturday’s 12.45pm kick-off.

    Ruddy ( Butland )
    Azpi , Bellerin , Cedric ( Huth, STaylor )
Haz, Wally, Sinclair, Chadli ( Wanyama )
    Wilson, Kun, Rooney

    1FT

    Keep it?
    Or
    Wally -> Santi
    Wilson -> Zaraté (?)
    Chadli -> Ayew
    ...
But think I'm just going to keep my FT to get Sanchez for wally and Rooney to Pelle

I'm starting Oxford over Cedric, not over JT. We're talking about Mourinho in a big game against Pellegrini. You're underestimating his ability to go there for a 0-0.
