Yaya Toure scores twice as City sweep aside West Brom at the Hawthorns. David Silva chips in with an assist, whilst Sergio Aguero steps up his match fitness with a second-half cameo off the bench.

Toure brace propels Blues to summit

Yaya Toure reaffirmed his heavy-hitting potential with a first-half brace against an overwhelmed Baggies outfit. Granted, the Ivorian’s first goal was very fortuitous – despite David Silva getting a touch, the Fantasy Premier League attributed the goal to the Ivorian and the assist to Jesus Navas. There were no such doubts over his second, though, as he curled a sublime effort into the top corner. Although Toure had to be substituted after 80 minutes with a slight groin strain, manager Manuel Pellegrini later revealed that he expects him to be fit to face Chelsea next Gameweek.

With most Fantasy managers turning their sights towards Raheem Sterling (22% ownership) or David Silva (10%) for their Sky Blues coverage, Toure (6%) proved to be a high-impact differential. Nonetheless, Silva showcased more than enough to suggest that his 10.0 price tag is worth the outlay, orchestrating the midfield with effortless poise and bagging an assist in the process. Sterling, meanwhile, fluffed a gilt-edged one-on-one chance, yet his pace in behind carries the promise of attacking returns.

Sergio Aguero was handed a 28-minute cameo as he gears up for a potential start against Chelsea on Sunday. Given the typically tight nature of that match-up (four goals in two head-to-heads last term), non-owners might be tempted hold off on recruiting the Argentinian marksman until Gameweek 3 (eve) or even Gameweek 4 (WAT), before City embark on a fantastic run of fixtures up to Gameweek nine (cry, WHY, tot, NEW, BOU).

Vincent Kompany (6.0) cemented the three points with a commanding header just before the hour mark. While City’s quartet of home ties after the Chelsea fixture look conducive to clean sheets, Aleksandar Kolarov (5.5) arguably presents a stronger case for inclusion in Gael Clichy’s absence, given that the Serbian full-back took precedence over Toure at free-kicks and ranked top for goal attempts (three) among defenders in Gameweek 1.

Baggies slump in home opener

Tony Pulis’ troops were comprehensively outclassed at the Hawthorns, falling to their second consecutive 3-0 defeat at the hands of City. Saido Berahino – who lined up alongside Rickie Lambert in a 4-4-2 set-up – had his moments and was denied a goal by virtue of the offside flag. It remains to be seen how club-record signing Salomon Rondon will slot into the forward line, particularly with question marks surrounding Berahino’s future.

James McClean was favoured in the left-wing role by Tony Pulis, meaning Chris Brunt was deployed in the left-back berth – starving us of a Baggies defensive option. With a home clash against Chelsea just around the corner, many non-owners of the Baggies backline will be persuaded to steer clear until the schedule takes a turn for the better from Gameweek 4 onwards.

Mahrez 2m cheaper then Payet so Mahrez. If Payet outscores Mahrez throughout the season that differance in points would easily be turned into your favour with the 2m in other places in your team.

Think he's a good choice. In fact because there's no standout choice this week I actually think there's loads of options you could make a case for:

      Rooney
      Benteke
      Kane
      Gomis
      Sakho
      Mane
      Chadli

Are the player prices less reflexive this year? 100k people have sold Courtois and there's no price change.

        10 years, 6 months ago

What do you mean by red flagged? Do prices change based on a percentage of the ownership? I assumed it was the raw number. Still though, Cech has 22% ownership which is ~ 700000 owners, he's been sold by 100k people this week, which means over 10% of his owners have sold him. Would have thought his price would have drifted.

The icon next to him, red flagged because he's suspended. When a player is flagged the threshold for a price drop increases significantly (doubled for a red flag I think). Price increases are based on a raw number, decreases are linked to ownership. If memory serves 10% may be about right for a drop but the red flag changes that.

I'd save it mate. Give your team at least 4 weeks, cos next week is gonna be tough with arsenal playing chelsea. Your team is solid though so WCing would be a waste. Azpi and Mert are good choices long term so don't be hasty by selling them. O'Shea will probably play instead of Kaboul this week - the Mackems always get drubbed at the start of the season (Spurs put 6 past them last year) then sort their defense out after that, so he's probably a decent pick too. Save your FT this week and see if any good 4.5m defence options emergence. Just have patience though

more a case of wanting to get rid of Giroud, who didn't do his starting chances any favours v West Ham, or Rooney, who looked lost up top.
re. Benteke, watched just the first 45, and I agree he wasn't involved much. He's got good home fixtures, though.

Captain decisions, I dont have any Liverpool players so its down to these lads -

Rooney - Looked sluggish against Spurs. Attacking stats not that promising either. Villa done well to keep a clean sheet against Bournemouth

Sahko - Best fixture of the week imo. Hes got some preseason form and will benefit from the influential Payet. A bit of a hot head at times though

Aguero - Looked good when he came on last night unlucky not to score with his second touch. Should have had a pen in the final minutes. Only worry is that he might not be ready to start.

Chadli - Could be a stroke of masterclass this lad will get points but its a risky captain

Cedric - Again a bit of a hot head. Fancy him to keep a CS against Everton but I hate captaining defenders unless its Baines or Aguero

    Thoughts?

Sakho from that lot. NOT Cedric (although I have him in my team).

I'm looking at Chadli but not sure I have the balls. I really like Sakho this week, thought he looked fairly lively against Arsenal and should get more clear cut chances this week.

As for Cedric - I hate captaining defenders, think it's too much of a risk.

(As in captaining Cedric is too much of a risk) - I do get the case for defenders sometimes but it's still not for me.

Yeah, i dont think ive got the balls either tbh. Really want to captain aguero but theres the risk

Aye Cedric is there as its niggling at me that he'll do well

      Rooney would be my choice.

West Ham - Leicester could be tight game.

Sakho out of those. Take Cedric off that list 😀

I'm on Rooney - He didn't look great against Spurs, but at least he held his position up front for the game and didn't drop deep. If he stays in the box, surely he will get a couple sooner or later?

    Myhil
    Azpi, cedric, gomez (oxford, richards)
    Walcott, sanchez, ayew, payet (obertan)
    Kane, pelle, benteke (c)

Used an early wildcard. Was miles off the pace with starters and got unlucky with injuries. Walcott is only in because i think he'll start vs palace and samchez for the long haul. I have 2.5 in the bank to put aguero in a couple weeks. Im stuck on ayew vs gomis or both. Swansea look good and they have decent fixtures. Ayew, gomis or both?

    Hey

    Ruddy ( Butland )
    Azpi , Bellerin , Cedric ( Huth, STaylor )
Haz, Wally, Sinclair, Chadli ( Wanyama )
    Wilson, Kun, Rooney

    1FT

    Keep it?
    Or
    Wally -> Santi
    Wilson -> Zaraté (?)
    Chadli -> Ayew
    ...
But think I'm just going to keep my FT to get Sanchez for wally and Rooney to Pelle

I think I'm gonna go for Hazard to Sanchez.

Surely he has to start given the result without him.

Yeah that's what I'm looking at - will eventually need Hazard again...

There will be no obvious week to captain him except GW4 when I will want to have Kun as a captain before GW9.

It's either that or Wilson to Deeney for me.

I'm keeping Wilson for now as going for Deeney seems such a sideways move.

I'd do both if I could for free but don't think either is worth a hit so I need to make my mind up.

Don't know why I didn't get Deeney to start with tbh.

I'd do both for free too. Wilson doesn't have the luxury of penalties and Deeney does.

Not sure whether to get him in with a Rooney OR Hazard downgrade.. or with some other method. a week or so more of info will help me decide

      1. il Brutto
        • 12 Years

I'm looking to bring him in for Hazard. There is such a huge ownership for Haz and a low one for Sanchez so it seems like a good way to make a leap in the rankings.

Considering i want to keep Rooney for NEW and i dont have a captaincy option this week i may join you and captain Sanchez. Can always get Hazard back in a few weeks(maybe at a cheaper price)

Is Walcott and Wilson -> Payet and Gomis for a hit just another knee jerk decision?

Wally needs to be transfered sooner or later.

I would hope that Walcott will play this weekend, it seems to be Giroud at home and Walcott on the road - which in my view is completely nonsensical..!
