Our midweek regular arrives for your perusal this evening, as we take an early look at those players currently under consideration for our squads across weekly and daily Fantasy Football games.

We’ve divided this early scouting into two sections. The “Better Buys” will look at the key players for the week ahead, generally assessing those in-form assets who are braced for a promising fixture. The “Poundstretchers”, on the other hand, are the Gameweek prospects that should offer excellent value – often one-week punts, whose lower price tags enable funds to be spent on the big-hitters elsewhere in our lineups.

In this week’s article, we take a look at what’s on offer in this week’s two featured games Fantasy Bet and PlayON…

Better Buys

Liverpool’s new-look defence has now kept three straight clean sheets and Simon Mignolet (Fantasy Bet 5m, PlayON 7.6m) echoed Petr Cech’s (Fantasy Bet 5.5m, PlayON 7.6m) heroics in the goalless draw at the Emirates to maintain his 100% start to the season. Both keepers are now handed favourable fixtures this time out. Liverpool entertain out-of-sorts West Ham at Anfield, whilst Cech travels to Newcastle on the back of a man-of-the-match performance for his new side – he could be in line for another clean sheet, given that hosts Newcastle sit bottom for both shots (20) and attempts in the box (12) so far.

Aleksandar Kolarov (Fantasy Bet 5.5m, PlayON 8.5m) appears to have confirmed what many Fantasy managers have always suspected – if given an extended run in the Manchester City side, the full-back could become an essential Fantasy pick. Since returning to the first team after the 4-2 defeat to Manchester United last term, the Serbian has now played the full 90 minutes in City’s last nine league matches. All of those matches have resulted in victories, and with seven clean sheets accrued, the left-back looks indispensable, having racked up three goals and an assist over that period.

Manchester City and Chelsea both have home ties that will see their usual big-hitter assets taking up those midfield and forward spots in our Fantasy teams. From City, David Silva and Yaya Toure will be popular picks as they host Watford, while Eden Hazard is likely to be the go to choice from Chelsea as Crystal Palace travel to Stanford Bridge. There are now alternatives at both clubs, with summer signings offering the chance to break from those more obvious picks. Raheem Sterling (Fantasy Bet 9m, PlayON 11.9m) and Pedro – available as a midfielder in Fantasy Bet for 9.5m and as a forward in PlayON for 12.5m – could provide quality differentials that are slightly kinder on the budget than there more established team-mates.

In the forward positions, Sergio Aguero, Diego Costa and Christian Benteke are also set to be the prevalent choices. Mid-priced options could prove to offer more value, however, with Southampton hosting Norwich and Stoke welcoming West Brom. Graziano Pelle has not scored since their opening fixture but the Saints have fired 24 attempts in the box over the first three, only bettered by Arsenal. The Italian must start putting those chances away more regularly and is available for 10.6m in PlayON and 8m in Fantasy Bet. Stoke’s Mame Biram Diouf (Fantasy Bet 6.5m, PlayON 9.1m) has carried on last season’s form, looking for a third goal in as many outings this term – the Senegalese scored six in the final seven at the Britannia over the run-in in 2014/15.

Poundstretchers

Stoke will be hoping to record a first clean sheet of the season against midlands rivals West Brom this weekend. Keeper Jack Butland (Fantasy Bet 4.5m, PlayON 6.7m) has made 13 saves so far, including six in the visit to Norwich last time out. This is Stoke’s second home fixture and gives the young keeper a chance to impress again after only conceding late-on to Philippe Coutinho’s long range strike in the opening match of the season.

Southampton kept out newly promoted Watford in the 0-0 draw at Vicarage Road and Ronald Koeman’s side look set to keep back-to-back clean sheets with the Canaries visiting St Mary’s this weekend. Matt Targett should start again as Ryan Bertrand remains absent and the youngster offers excellent value at only 4m in Fantasy Bet and 6m in PlayON – all the more so given that he was utilised as a left wing-back against Watford last week as Ronald Koeman switched to a 3-4-1-2.

After backing Riyad Mahrez in the first installment of the Weekly Shop, the midfielder has established himself as a reliable budget option every week since and remains at 5.5m in Fantasy Bet, while an 8.2m price-tag in PlayON still makes the winger a tempting prospect as Leicester travel to Bournemouth. The Cherries also offer budget options against a Foxes side yet to keep a clean sheet with Matt Ritchie (Fantasy Bet 6m, PlayON 8.2m) and Callum Wilson (Fantasy Bet 5.5m, PlayON 7.8m) following his hat-trick against West Ham worth considering here.

Aston Villa host Sunderland with both sides yet to inspire much confidence so far this term. Tim Sherwood’s men should expect some attacking returns against a Black Cats team that visit Villa Park having conceded eight in three, including four to Leicester City in their last away fixture. Rudy Gestede (Fantasy Bet 6m, PlayON 7.8m) scored 20 goals in 39 appearances for Blackburn in the Championship lasts season and netted the winner against Bournemouth in his Premier League debut.

These are the players on my radar ahead of this weekend’s weekly contests. On Friday, I’ll be back with a further look at both this week’s partner games – Fantasy Bet and PlayON – as I continue my quest for profit in the 2015/16 campaign.

It is clear after being on the forums over the last few days that many of us are facing the difficult decision of which combination of Gomis, Diouf and Wilson is the best? So I thought I'd bring up the key questions and address them the best we can with the stats/information we have to try give us a helping hand:

    Key Questions:

-Are we being blinded by Wilson's GW3 hat-trick, upcoming fixtures and low price or will he become an essential budget striker pick?
-Will Gomis continue his fantastic form shown so far this season now that his fixtures become more difficult or should we ditch for someone else?
-Is Diouf the real deal this season and does he justify a place above the other budget strikers?

The stats and key points to consider:

-This season's Shots/Shots on Target stats suggest that Diouf has been the best of the three in terms of shooting accuracy, with 100% of his shots being on target. However both Gomis and Wilson still boast respectable stats with Gomis taking the most shots out of the three.
    Diouf (7/7)
    Gomis (10/6)
    Wilson (7/4)

-Last season's goalscoring history of these strikers proves to us that all three have the ability to continue their early season form
Diouf 12 goals, 3 assists in 2434 minutes
Gomis 7 goals, 1 assist in 1650 minutes
Wilson 20 goals, 7 assists in 3908 minutes

-It is clear to see that the next 6 fixtures of Diouf and Wilson are much better than those of Gomis, probably the key reason many are considering replacing Gomis. Another positive to Diouf if that Stoke's fixtures carry on very favourably after this, with games against WAT and new.
Diouf (WBA, ars, LEI, BOU, avl, swa)
Gomis (UTD, wat, EVE, sou, TOT, STO)
Wilson (LEI, nor, SUN, sto, WAT, mci)

-Price is a big part of this decision, with Wilson coming in at £5.5m, Diouf at £6.5m and Gomis at £7.2m. The gap in price between Wilson and the others is considerable, with many arguing that he could be a bargain. However it all depends on how that extra bit of cash is utilised in the rest of your squad, which is especially important for those managers on their Wildcard.

-Both Gomis and Wilson appear to be on penalties for their teams which makes them more appealing to Diouf in that sense. However many have made the point that Wilson may have only been given the penalty in the last game vs West Ham because he was on for a hat-trick?

-We must also look at the teams in which these strikers are playing to asses how many chances will be created for them. Swansea are on fire and Gomis has the likes of Montero, Ayew, Siggy and Shelvey feeding him balls and winning him penalties.
-After Stoke's summer transfer window they now boast a midfield of Shaquiri, Aranautovic, Affelay and Ireland who are sure to create loads of chances for Diouf. But with Bojan back to fitness, will he offer a threat to Diouf for that solo strike role?
-Last season Bournemouth scored a whopping 98 goals in the championship which proves they are an incredibly attacking team, however will this continue in the Premier League and will Wilson be the main man with other proven goal scorers like Matt Richie in the squad?

As you can see from all of the pros and cons of each player above, this is a headache of a decision, especially when it has an effect on which heavy hitting midfielders you can afford. Please feel free to share your views on which of these you think are the best to own for the foreseeable future. I hope this helps!

Any stats on goal involvement Re: Wilson vs Diouf?

On the face of it, it seems to me that Wilson has a greater points potential than the latter.

Also, why no baps for Gomis? Despite scoring 3 goals in as many games he has 0 baps to show for it. Should this be a factor in deciding whether or not to get him?

Gargh I was going to make a point on this but forgot. As Manofkent has said, the brilliant swans mids are stealing all his baps but after looking at last season he only got 6 all season, even after scoring 7 goals. But then again many of those were sub appearances.

I've currently got Gomis and Diouf, but will probably swap Gomis to Wilson for those fixtures on a FT (I'd like to own all three but dropping Aguero seems a little extreme 😉 ). I think we could be spoilt with cheap striker options for a while - Rondon looks promising, Defoe has the ability if Sunderland get it together...

Damn I was hoping for a "you should definitely go with player x and y" at the end of that excellent post but you have instead outlined the complete randomness of the whole situation. I've gone with Wilson and Gomis - not that anybody will care it's a coin toss as your stats illustrate.

Huth & Mane > Kolarov & Mahrez for -4 worth it?
I would have done only Mane > Mahrez but I have 3 Leicester players.

    Rest of my team:

    Schmeichel
    Mert / Azpi / Targett
Hazard (VC) / Mane / Sterling / Ayew
    Wilson / Aguero (C) / Pelle

    Schwarzer / Bentaleb / Huth / Coates

From a Chelsea fan who has seen a lot of him he's nowhere near Hazard's level, furthermore he's a completely different type of player. There are too many weak teams lower down bundesliga so you can't compare stats of players playing there to those of players in the premier league.

Your main consideration shouldn't be drafting KDB into your team, it's whether you should look to offload Silva. He and KDB are essentially the same slow creative players who are unable to tackle and there is not room for both of them in the starting line up of any balanced team.

Finally no way will he come in and take penalties.

Yes, thought I am not sure whether an 18 year old will keep his place long term.

That said, there has to be a more important transfer than that??

Not really, only other thing would be the GK situation really but need to free up funds for that. Team is:

        Myhill, McCarthy,
        Darmian, Sagna, Muniesa, Richards, Martin
        Sanchez, Silva, Depay, Mahrez, Westwood
        Aguero, Benteke, Gomis

          For Depay, read Payet (oops)

          Hmm, fair enough.

I would probably save the FT with that team TBH.

There is an international break next time round, so chance to increase TV with two freebies.

I need to free up funds.. If you had to choose one which one would it be

    A) Gomis -> Wilson (play 3-5-2)

    or

    B) Payet & Watmore -> Westwood & Wilson (-4) (play 3-4-3)

With Depay playing against Club Brugge and providing he plays for more than 80 mins, Could he be at risk of being benched for swansea's game?

Rooney looks like he's in one off those nightmares where you have lead boots. LVG won't drop but Wo certainly shouldn't be picking him on this form.
