This afternoon we publish our usual pre-Gameweek members article, which focuses on the main captaincy contenders according to the votes cast in our Captain Poll. As always, we take a three-part approach which includes the weekly poll standings, the Opta statistics and our Rate My Team projections to help steer your thoughts on the armband conundrum.

The Captain Poll

In the wake of Sergio Aguero’s projected four-week absence, Kevin De Bruyne – who converted two free-kicks for Belgium during the international break – sits atop the summit of our Captain Poll with 26% of the vote. The former Wolfsburg midfielder boasts three goals and two assists in his last trio of league starts and will fancy his chances at home to a Bournemouth outfit that’s notched just one clean sheet this campaign.

Alexis Sanchez (20%) is the second most popular captaincy choice. Although he travelled back from Peru on Thursday and has a crucial Champions League encounter against Bayern Munich in midweek, Sanchez is hard to ignore by virtue of his nine goals in five outings for club and country.

Graziano Pelle (15%) ranks top for total points (54) among all forwards this campaign ahead of Southampton’s home tie against Leicester. The aerially dominant frontman notched three goals and four assists in his previous three league starts and scored in his last outing for Italy. Sadio Mane (1%) joins him in the top ten, having chalked up two goals and three assists since Gameweek 6. Both players will be encouraged by the fact that the Foxes shipped ten goals in their previous four match-ups and have yet to register a clean sheet.

Diego Costa places fourth on his return from suspension with 6% of voters prioritising form over fixtures, given that the Spain international has recorded just one goal in six starts ahead of a home clash against Aston Villa. By that same token, Eden Hazard (4%) – who’s tallied one goal and two assists in his last three starts – could capitalise on the fact that the Villains conceded eight goals across their previous three road matches.

Daniel Sturridge has been backed by 4% of FFScout’s readership after bagging a brace in Gameweek 7. Jurgen Klopp’s first match at the helm pits Liverpool against a Tottenham Hotspur team that’s conceded a solitary goal in their last three showdowns at White Hart Lane. On the flip side, Harry Kane (3%) has netted just one goal in eight starts but will be emboldened in the knowledge that the Reds’ rearguard was breached ten times in the past five Gameweeks.

Even though he’s delivered attacking returns (three goals and two assists) in each of the last four Gameweeks, Dimitri Payet enjoys just 1% of the vote as West Ham United roll up at Crystal Palace. The twinkle-toed French playmaker locks horns with an Eagles backline that’s proved more resolute this campaign, conceding just two goals in their last four fixtures.

I must have been the last person on here to own Coates. Anyone else still unfortunate enough to have him?

Sanchy to be assessed - and what with Tuesday nights visit of Bayern, who's to say that Arsene won't rest him for the trip to Vicarage Road?

And Arsene is desperate not to be booted out of the Champions League after 3 games. I think there's a pretty decent chance that Sanchy will sit this one out, sadly... i have Sanchy, so it's the last thing i want, but i just see the shadow of Bayern looming over Arsene. He'll think they have enough in reserve without Alexis to get over the line at Vicarage, surely?

Forgot I made a second team for GW2. Just checked it and it's beating my main team! The power of no hits and no needless changes. Had to play wildcard now because of injuries.

    Any changes to Make?

    Butland
    Souare Nyom Davies
    Hazard(c) Yaya Sanchez Mane
    Pelle Kane Lukaku.

    Bench: Hennesssey Moreno Wanyama Francis

Trying to minimize the hits if possible. I could just play Westwood and take no hits or do one of the following for -4:

    A) Diouf > Costa/Lukaku?
    B) Westwood > Haz (and play 3-5-2)

    Current Team:
    Bego (McCarthy)
Richards - Dawson - Williams (Kolo - Gomez)
Alexis - Payet - KDB - Mahrez (Westwood)
    Pelle - Vardy - Diouf

    Any thoughts/other ideas?

All these doubts and injuries considered (Kolarov, Evans, Sanchez, Mane, Mahrez, Diouf), could you argue that it would be actually wise to take a hit bringing Bellerin in for Kolarov? Would you do it?

    Evening Chaps!

Okay, so i'm going with a -4 hit to ditch Coutinho and Aguero in favour of De Bruyne and Pelle.

With the news of Kolarov's injury i'm now shopping for a replacement, which regrettably means a minus 8 hit.

I can pick from ANY defender on the game, but none are really jumping out at me! ...I have Ash Williams, and Skrtel (pukes in mouth), along with out of favour Muniesa and Targett. Who's the best bet for replacing Kolarov?

    a) Zabaleta
    b) Kompany
    c) Azpilicueta
    d) Van Dijk
    e) Bertrand
    f) Bellerin?

    ...what do we think?

Southampton do have some decent fixtures and i rate Koeman highly as a defensive coach, so maybe Bertand is the best bet?

Hmmm, i'm concerned that Kompany might sit out the Bournemouth match and fully recover before the midweek Champions League match.

I like Bellerin, but Arsenal's fixtures are a bit hit and miss.

Any other suggestions???? ...anyone i've missed?

        1. Azathoth

After the United and Arsenal fixtures i plan on bringing in Barkley and maybe Lukaku as well. My front line now consists of Pelle, Ighalo and Sakho... DIDN'T see that coming to start the season.

I could yet decide against Pelle and KDB as my replacements for Coutinho and Aguero. Could yet go with Costa up top, Mane in midfield and then a replacement defender from the list above. It would look better having at least one big hitter up top!

    Hart De gea
    Kolarov smalling azpil clyne willaims
    Mata Barkley mahrez payet puncheon
    Pelle ighalo Wilson
Thinking of taking a hit for Wilson but who do I drop to the bench? Might not take a hit and just start who I have here, opinions? 5.7m itb

    Current team.

    Myhill

    Darmian, Kolarov, Berty

    Sanchez, KDB, Payet, Mahrez

    Pelle, Vardy, Martial

    (Schmeichel, Haneland, Targett, Westwood)

I am always happy to take hits so not an issue, already -4. (Kun to Pelle, Cresswell to Berty)

    Should I also do;

    Kolarov to

    A) Zabaleta or

    B) Bellerin

    Thinking I need some Chelsea coverage. Their fixtures, regardless of the form are reasonably good so either;

    C) Martial to Costa

    D) Mahrez to Hazard Am I mad to ditch Mahrez as he is a risk to start atm?
