Harry Kane’s serves a timely reminder of his goal-getting credentials with a treble as Tottenham run riot at Bournemouth. Sunderland are on the ascendancy under Sam Allardyce, whilst Everton’s eye-catching schedule looks set to bring their main men under close Fantasy attention.

The Player

A weekend hat-trick at Bournemouth finally saw Harry Kane reignite his Fantasy season after a stuttering start to 2015/16.

Elevated into the premium bracket on the back of 21 goals and seven assists in a last year’s breakthrough campaign, there were fears that Kane was suffering from second-season syndrome, that top-flight defences were beginning to figure him out. A summer playing for the England Under 21s ensured he was anything but fully refreshed as domestic matters got underway and, with just a single goal to his name in the opening nine Gameweeks, his price had understandably dropped from 9.5 to 9.2.

The underlying numbers suggested otherwise, though. Kane was getting the chances – he was just struggling to tuck them away. His treble against the Cherries will no doubt be a real morale boost and with the north London side now facing four home matches in six, beginning with a weekend visit from Villa, the scramble for his signature has seen over 60,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers bring him on board.

Granted, Kane does square up to the likes of Arsenal, West Ham, Chelsea and West Brom over the next six but, as we witnessed on numerous occasions last season, he’s fixture-proof when firing on all cylinders. With Mauricio Pochettino’s side now unbeaten in nine, including a 4-1 home thrashing of league leaders City, their main striker could well be set to reward us further as Spurs look to maintain their momentum and improve upon their current sixth place finish.

The Team

Sam Allardyce could not have wished for a better way to endear himself to the Sunderland faithful after a 3-0 win over Newcastle clinched a sixth successive victory over their bitter north east rivals.

Handed the reins after Dick Advocaat departed on the back of three points in the first eight Gameweeks, Big Sam lost narrowly at West Brom in his first match in charge before Sunday’s win over the Magpies at the Stadium of Light.

The weekend showing will certainly boost Sunderland’s confidence at both ends of the pitch going forward. Under Advocaat, they’d conceded 18 times and failed to keep a clean sheet – with Big Sam on board, that’s two goals against in as many matches. Costel Pantilimon served up ten points with his first shut out of the campaign, whilst Allardyce’s starting back-four all came in under 4.5 in FPL, highlighting their cut-price appeal.

In midfield, the 5.0-priced Yann M’Vila’s assist sees him lead the way, though Big Sam will also be looking to get the best out of wide men Jeremain Lens and Adam Johnson in his bid to beat the drop. Up top, Steven Fletcher – at just 5.0 – has two goals and an assist in three and could be another name to consider in the budget third striker slot if he can steer clear of injury.

Allardyce’s record of having never been relegated stands the Black Cats in good stead, then, and it’s clear his impact is already taking effect. The upcoming fixtures are mixed, though with a trip to Palace and home encounters against Stoke and Watford in the next six, the Wearsiders could be back on our radars before long.

The Talking Point

With a dire run of fixtures now finally behind them, Everton’s main men seem primed for investment as the schedule starts to ease significantly for the remainder of the calendar year.

From this weekend until Gameweek 19, the Toffees embark on a nine-match streak which sees them welcome Sunderland, Villa, Palace, Leicester and Stoke to Goodison and also pay visit to West Ham, Bournemouth, Norwich and Newcastle, boosting their prospects for points at both ends of the pitch.

Encouragingly for would-be suitors, Martinez’ main attackers have flourished in the first ten Gameweeks, despite going head-to-head with all of last year’s top eight over that period. The 8.4-priced Romelu Lukaku sits fourth amongst forwards, with five goals and a pair of assists, whilst Ross Barkley, at 6.8, offers a cheaper option in the centre of the park. Already, the latter’s three goals and as many assists have bettered his output from 2014/15, underlining his improving form as a viable Fantasy asset.

At the back, there’s no doubt that Phil Jagielka’s knee injury absence could prove detrimental to Everton’s chances of bringing in the clean sheets. The Toffees have managed three so far, though with just one shut out in the last six, the centre-half’s absence may persuade many to court caution here. Nonetheless, with Seamus Coleman racking up nine goals in the last two years and Leighton Baines edging towards a first-team return, there’s no shortage of options from back to front for those keen to invest in the Toffees’ chief protagonists as Martinez looks to take advantage of the schedule and steer his side further up the table.

And we all have Vardy, Ighalo and Pelle, all of whom are difficult to sell.

but yeah if I had Vardy (missed boat) Ighalo (missed boat) or Pelle (have Mane) I'd struggle.. might think Ighalo for Kane BUT if you have Ighalo surely you're on a 3-5-2 so you're less likely to have cash itb to afford Hurrikane

I had Eriksen instead. My logic was he had been involved in so many of Spurs goals he was guaranteed to be heavily involved in a Spurs haul, which looked eminent based on form and fixtures, so was a much better option than Kane.

Be tempted by the Costa out, for sure in your case, then - but why not get Bony in, instead? That game looks a gimme plus you'll have the City cover for the next couple of weeks. You can maybe get Gnarls (Barkley) in for Surman instead?

    Myhill - McCarthy
    Bellerin - Sagna - Janmaat - Evans - Martin
    Sanchez - Walcott - Payet - Ayew - Mahrez
    Pelle - Gomis - Diouf

    Who to ship out?

    I am thinking:
    Diouf -> Kane, Bony, Lukaku
Martin -> Van Dijk / Man U defender (preferably Smalling)

Is no City midfielder or attacker an option?

With Norwich and Bournemouth and Leicster on the horizon?

I just don't like the look of Bony and a lot of the time it looks like the play is passing him by. I would rather have Yaya than Bony to be honest.

Walcott to KDB looks like the obvious transfer to me and I'd probably take a hit to remove Gomis too for Vardy.

        • 10 Years
        10 years, 8 months ago

I have 2 FT, and I don't mind a hit here or there once in a while.

Walcott is on the chopping block, I should have gone for Ozil instead but got blindsighted by his OOP potential. Giroud was really good, so I should make plans to drop Walcott but I figured I would hold for one more week to see if Wenger favors him when playing away games.

            Thanks for your response.

I feel i missed the boat bigtime with Vardy, he should have been in my team by now. I will ignore him and will jump on the next bandwagon instead of chasing last weeks points even if he is a great pick right now. The fixtures turn in a few weeks, it's too short term for me.

Maybe Gomis out (not firing and you have Ayew) for Bony.

You have no City cover so I'd be really worried about that with the NOR game.

        1. Daaf

I should be worried, but don't know if Bony is a better option than Kane or Lukaku to be honest. Kane is central to a good Spurs side, and he is playing Villa and he is on penalties. Spurs have looked like a real Pochetino side, finally! I wouldn't say he is a worse option than Bony, not this week at least. He does have some mixed fixtures with Arsenal and Chelsea coming up but on his day he can score against anyone.

Lukaku has the long term fixtures, no European football, is on penalties and is doing allright. But he literally never gets me anything, so I might as well stay clear all together. I'd rather have Coleman or Barkely from Everton.

Most of the time I play 3-5-2, at least this season. I am actually tempted to get back Yaya for Walcott, I swapped them when Yaya got injured. KDB looks a premium pick, but I feel Yaya can offer something similar for a lot less money.

I have all the players mentioned and am going for KDB. A safe bet in my opinion if you are a leader. I don't actually like where he played in the last two games. I don't expect more than a goal or an assist.

If you want a possible massive overhaul, pick Pelle but a bit risky.

Watford have scored 1 goal in 5 home games.
West Ham have only conceded 4 goals in 5 away games despite facing the likes of City and Arsenal.

Leicester have scored 9 goals in 5 away games.
WBA have conceded 11 goals all season but 9 have come at home.

      Mahrez takes pens and corners.

Easy decision to play him over Ighalo surely?

    KDB - Sanchez - Ayew - Mahrez - Payet
    Gomis - Vardy - Ayoze

Do I want Lukaku or Barkley? For who?

Sort of leaning to Gomis to Lukaku but think I'd actually prefer Barkley,

Running in behind defences, pressing high up, playing on the ground, and his passing. All average/poor.

That being said, he's great in the air, great hold up play and is a good lone striker. But why should we change the system just to fit in him and players like Coutinho suffer because Benteke doesn't meet the through balls?

I'm just saying, when you have 32.5m to spend on a striker, Benteke doesn't come to mind.

Valid points, but who would have come to a team with no CL or being able to compete for the title right away? Not a lot of players that are better than Benteke. My idea would be to have ings / Studge when fit playin the off man to meet those through balls. Just cuz it worked with Suarez and Sturridge doesnt mean the system shouldnt change.

Also i really dislike Coutinho as a player to be honest, but im extremely non-open to talks about that 😀

The likes of Volland, Icardi or Batshuyai would've been fairly realistic to get. None in CL football and only Icardi was on big bucks. He signed a contract after we signed Benteke I think, anyway.

And on Coutinho, I think he's good but not great. He's an 8 and not a 10 and that's when people misjudge what he's actually supposed to do. Baring in mind he's 23 years old also. A lot of development to come. But not world class by any stretch of the imagination.

Thats a really flawed concept in my eyes. You should build a system for the players you have and not force one system on them. Thats my opinion, at least. I do believe Benteke is a good signing, bar prices which are inflated by every single player out there

Those are good picks, but you needed a big name as well. Benteke is a proven goal scorer in EPL, while these players would have to adapt and are a year or so younger than Benteke. Would you take that risk and ending up like Roma did last season?

The likes of Suarez weren't proven in the premier league and weren't playing for a top team before they came either.

And if we wanted a striker like that then Dzeko would've been a better fit than Benteke

True, but how many times can "Suarez" appear on the football map? Players like him dont come often. He is pure class. If i could pick i would take Teke over Dzeko. Dzeko is slower and isnt as technically savvy as Teke.

He is one of the good striker available at that time, and the club did a good thing in buying him - but the price is somewhat off and he is not exactly fit the type of striker that Liverpool should be looking at.

It is like you have a round hole and you bought a square filler and shaved off the edge to fit the hole.

IMO, if you bought someone like Benteke at that price, you should play to his skill set to bring the best out of him - which we are not. And I don't think we will accommodate that in near future too.

All fair points, but i do think he is receiving less credit than he should. Not necessarily needed to switch the whole system off, but accommodate would be a lot easier. With Klopp and his "geggenpressing" having Ings would be extremely good for Liverpool but too bad he got injured.

Prices are all inflated across the globe, but EPL takes it to a new level. That is an issue to be quite honest with the market and trends, not players

Feel like Barkley is a better option then Lukaku he has never done it for me in fpl

Waiting this week. Save and use after GW 12 (internationals are then from what I remember).

Attack I am probably keeping as it is.

Mings has been stinking up my team for ages, but haven't had an opportunity to get rid, I may upgrade him to a Southampton defender.

Do you have more confidence in Southampton at the back then Everton? Cause maybe ill get a defender but don't know which team I would like to go

Southampton, Utd or Citeh have favourable fixtures coming up. I would prefer a defender from these three (if not all three) ahead of an Everton defender.

Yes I rate them over Everton. Jags out is detrimental and rate Saint's fixtures.

Not seen him around this season.

    Ruddy-Rudd
    Bellerin-Cedric-Dawson-Huth-Saylor
    Sanchez-KDB-Mahrez-Ayew-Fletcher
    Pelle-Martial- Vardy
    5.5 ITB ,1FT

Moving Ruddy> DDG, would it also be worth taking a hit to bring in Lukaku for his easy fixtures with Martial stuck out wide?

    FPL Ladies and Gentlemen,

    I require your input.

    Hennessey
    Monreal | Cédric | Janmaat
Sánchez | Hazard | De Bruyne | Mané
    Lukaku (c) | Pellè | Ighalo

    a) Save (0FT).
    b) Lose Hazard (1FT).
    c) Lose Hazard, get Kane (c) (-4).

I am betting against Payet's fixtures.

Already have Lukaku, but could double-up I guess. aThoughts on Eriksen?

Good option too. I was tempted last week but had other priorities. Guaranteed starter on set pieces so a relatively safe investment IMO.

Seems to be behind Valencia currently. If Valencia injured and out, keep. Otherwise consider sideways to Jones?

I think I may keep for this weekend play Kolarov/Monrel/Alderweireld

I think I'm better using my FT to gain extra points in my midfield:

        Mahrez/Payet/Sanchez/De Bruyne/Hoolahan
        Ighalo/Vardy/Pelle

Thinking upgrading Hoolahan is a better use of funds right?
        Who to go for instead?

Toure/Sterling/Barkley/Ozil seem to be the best choices?

      C. Good fixtures coming up. And surely LVG will cop on and play him through the middle shortly. I'm going to be patient with him (I have Lukaku)

    Any urgent changes needed?

    Begovic
    Bellerin, Dawson, Sagna
    KBD (c), Yaya, Sanchez, Payet
    Pelle, Martial, Ighalo

    McCarthy, Evans, Mahrez, Simpson

So undecided how the WBA v Leicester game will go so not sure on who to bench.

    Cheers

Interesting. City at home to Norwich this week though so surely he'll score something. Definitely going to get Barkley in soon though. Will ponder the Mahrez v Ighalo situation for a bit longer.

What combo should I go for?
    A/ Mata/Lukaku
B Barkley/Lukaku ( and bring in Jones for united cover )
C Barkley/ Martial ( hoping that LVG comes to his senses and reinstates AM as no 9 )
