We turn our attentions to Premier Punt now, as I assess the games on offer for Gameweek 11 and update you on my quest to turn an initial £100 pot into profit.

This Week’s Games

Premier Punt have two large pots covering all ten fixtures this week. There’s a £500 game with just a £2 entry and also a £300 game for £5 – both should offer plenty of overlay, meaning value for our stakes, so it’s a promising week to get involved on Premier Punt for new and current users.

This week, there are four strikers with tempting fixtures vying for our attentions and getting the right mix is likely to be key to our fortunes. Wilfried Bony (13.2m), Romelu Lukaku (12.5m), Harry Kane (14.7m) and Graziano Pelle (12.6m) are the frontmen in question and it looks like it will be sensible to have different combinations from those four across the possible three line-ups and a variety of captain picks.

Trying to fit two or three of those in a team is a selection headache, with their steep price tags making it difficult to have a balanced side overall. With the likes of you Kevin De Bruyne (11m), Ross Barkley (10.7m), Christian Eriksen (12.9m) and Sadio Mane (12.5) also vying for contention in midfield, striking a balance is key.

My Team
I’ve therefore gone for budget options at the back in an attempt to squeeze in a decent attacking option from each of Man City, Spurs, Everton and Southampton. For the keeper I’ve gone for the cheapest likely starter and hope that Wayne Hennessey (5.5m) will at least pick up some save points against Manchester United.

Leicester’s Christian Fuchs (6.7m) finds a spot. The Foxes picked up a first clean sheet of the season against Crystal Palace and travel to a West Brom side that are the second worst team in the division for goal attempts (96), with Sunderland the only side to register less shots on goal (94). A pair of Watford defenders complete the back-line, Nathan Ake (6.7m) and Miguel Britos (6.4m) are at home to West Ham and the Hornets have three shut-outs in five matches at Vicarage Road.

Ross Barkley gets the nod ahead of Lukaku as the midfielder is cheaper than his team-mate. The same applies for Kevin de Bruyne’s inclusion over Bony. As an alternative to Eriksen I go for another Spurs midfielder – Dele Alli, at 8.3m, should offer value against managerless Villa. West Brom have conceded three goals on three occasions at the Hawthorns this season, so Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez (9.1m) fills the last midfield spot.

Graziano Pelle finds a berth up front. The Italian has three goals and as many assists in the Saints’ last four at St Mary’s. Odion Ighalo, as highlighted in the
Weekly Shop article has been the main threat for Watford and is a cut-price option for a striker in such a rich vein of form. That leaves 14.7m for Tottenham’s hat-trick Harry Kane at home to Villa.

The Bottom Line

A sixth place spot in the £200 weekly guaranteed game gave me £10 in winnings, though a lack of Harry Kane cost me – I finished only nine points off top spot and his inclusion would have made a big difference to my balance. I got close in the Manchester derby game to the money places – 203 points was disappointingly just shy of a £5 return. That still leaves me on a healthy looking £131.34 ahead of Gameweek 11.

This Week’s Stake
Once again I’m going with the guaranteed pots this week, though taking advantage of the multiple line-ups, I enter three in the £500 contest for a total of £6. I also put one team into the £300 game, and will consider adding the other two closer to the deadline.

Stake – £11

Current Balance – £120.34

If you would like to take me on in the £500 or £300 guaranteed pots or try out PremierPunt’s unique single fixtures game sign up here.

Yaya seems safer with regards to 90 minutes, no? His team scores many more goals, too. Yaya might be in some.

No. I think KDB is more apt to get goals and assists, and Bony may get goals, but may also share goals with Yaya, KDB, random holding midfielder/defender, or Sterling (if he is playing).

Not for me, at 5% ownership Bony is enough of a differential to simply own without the need to captain.

    Myhill
    Kolorov Francis Dawson
    Mane Sanchez Mahrez Mata Watson
    Vardy Berahino

    (Hennessey, Costa, Davies, Ryan Bennett)

Team is looking very rubbish at the minute but I don't want to take a hit unless it is really necessary.

    I was thinking either:
    1. Costa -> Lukaku/Kane and then playing 3-4-3

Now what do you think about these....

    A. Yaya (NOR, avl)
    - on average 3.2 goal attempts and 1.9 chances created per game this season
    - on penalties

    or

    B. Mane (BOU, sun)
    - on average 2.8 goal attempts and 1.4 chances created per game this season
    - great form lately

Not looking likely. Bellerin would then come in. IF Coleman plays, then I would rather have him and his scoring prowess at home to Sunderland. If he is out due to tummy illness, then I get Bellerin @ Swansea.

Thanks Jazzii. Yeah, Bellerin plays if Coleman does not, but given the tough choice with my 4 good defenders all having attractive home games, I think Bellerin is the odd one out. Ironic given his (and his team's) form, but also probably a moot point with Coleman's illness.

I think plenty of us dismiss/use up the All Out Attack chip a bit too quickly. Surely in 28 more gameweeks there will come a situation where you will have so many injuries that the chip will save you a 4 point hit and give you some actual value?

I'm not saying it's THAT useful but I think if you bide your time instead of throwing the chip away to play a mediocre midfielder in place of a mediocre defender you'll at some stage gain those 4 points minimum and also have a better potential for a bigger haul.

If that doesn't happen and we're into the final gameweeks, with some more team value there will probably be the chance to make yourself have 8 genuinely good midfielders/strikers for a gameweek or two, and then the chip might also be decent.

I'm sure many of you who used it will have had good reasons, but if you still have it left then I'd recommend thinking twice before using it if you can field 11 players.

Agree, the later you use it, theoretically, the more team value you have accrued, and the more you are likely to have a solid front 8. Then, when the times comes where you only have 2 strong defenders, the AOA makes optimal sense.

yup, I've nearly used it the last 2 GWs

1 GW I had Westwood and decided it wasn't worth it

Last week I would have left 7 points on my bench and brought in a midfielder who got 2

No idea when I will use it, but I'm sure there will come a time when the decision to use it will be taken out of my hands

Many clean sheets and BAPs. Goals are major honey. I had him for that game. Best single gw transfer I have made this year thus far (Ivan > Kola for a hit...gw3; points and money). I wish they all worked out that way.

He's been unlucky in the assist department and that will pick up, judging by how I've seen him play and if I could be arsed to look then I'm sure the stats would back it up 🙂

1 goal from 9 games is still a good ratio for a defender, but there too I think he can improve with his good free kicks. Last games a couple I thought he should've taken were stolen by KDB or someone which wasn't great however.

With Azpilicueta, Alderweireld and Bellerin, who would you get for Ben Davies?

    a. Moreno and bench. Start at home to Palace next week.
    b. Van Dijk and bench Vardy.
    c. Kolarov and bench Vardy.

    Thanks all

Sure, but would you not start Kolarov ahead of Alder in almost all games after this gw? And baam you find yourself with a 1pointer as Clichy suddenly gets a start or 45 minutes i a game or 2 to get him going... VvD is a sure bet with at least the same goalthreat and no Europa play when you need him

Am expecting Chelsea to get their sh!t together. Van Dijk seems expensive for a 4th defender. You're right that I'd need to go with him or Azpilicueta.

        I'm leaning towards A or B, now.
